Asa bounded after Ashera. This woman was fun. She stepped out of the house, leaping down the walk before turning to look at Ashera with a happy chirp.
Out of habit Ashera traced an old rune on the door beneath the handle. She did like the concept of keys, especially the older styles, but she trusted her magic more than a silly piece of metal to protect her house. ”Alright. Let's go shopping.” She smiled, walking next to Asa. ”I hope you don't mind if we stop at my supply shop first.”
Asa ran around Ashera once before settling on walking on her left side. She was more than glad to go with Ashera to her supply shop; she wanted to know as much as she could about her new owner. She chirped once to express as much of this thought as she could.
The shop, in particular, wasn't very far from Ashera’s house. Actually, it was just a block away from the pet store where she had bought Asa. It was a homey little magic curio shop to humans but to everyone else, it was also a pickup point for all sorts of things. She made sure Asa was inside the shop before letting the door close behind them. ”Hello Willnen, did my order come in?” Ashera greeted the gnome owner.
Asa sniffed around the store near Ashera, always making sure Ashera could see her and she could see Ashera.
”Eh? Oh, hi Ash.” The gnome lady smiled in recognition. ”Yeah. I got it right here.” She lifted a medium-sized box on the sales desk. ”How have you been? Any luck finding that someone special yet?” Willnen winked.
Ashera giggled, ”I’ve been doing pretty great lately. How’s business?” she rolled her eyes. ”Not in that regard, no. It's hard enough to find someone who won't get hunted down and has the same lifespan as you. But I did make a new friend.” her smile brightened as she gestured to Asa.
(Are you still there or did I bore you?)
(I have finally returned! Do you still want to do this?)
(Sure!!!! Welcome back!)
(Thanks!!)
Asa smiled, puffing a little to the woman. She ran back over to Ashera, rubbing against her leg.
Willnen gave an appreciative whistle as she looked at Asa. ”Quite a beauty! Finally cracked and got a pet, eh?” she teased. ”Don’t blame ya. We don't have to put ourselves in isolation.”
”I'm not isolated.” Ashera argued with a light laugh. ”Anyway, we should probably get going. I need to buy Asa some food and toys.” she smiled.
Asa ran in little circles around Ashera's legs. When Willnen whistled, she tried to copy. It came out nicely, but it puttered off at the end. At the mention of toys, she jumped a little, nuzzling Ashera's hand.
Willnen chuckled at the imitation and handed the package to Ashera. ”Smart too. Bet she's gonna be a talker when she's older.”
Ashera smiled and took the box. ”I almost hope she is. She’s already good for conversation but it would be nice to actually hear her say something instead of guessing from her actions.” she admitted. ”See you around, Willnen.”
Oh, if only they knew. Of course, Asa was thankful they didn't. She didn't want to be on the run again. She chirped once to Willnen in a farewell, nodding her head to her slightly. Then, she leaped, flying in a circle around Ashera's head. She was ready to go.
Willnen gave a small wave and went back to work as Ashera opened the door for both of them to exit. ”We’re probably going to need to get a cab to get home after we finish shopping.” she told Asa as they headed to the next store.
Asa flew out, sticking close to Ashera. She didn't particularly like the idea of getting inside of a vehicle, but she couldn't really help Ashera carry anything in this form. Instead, she nodded, blowing a bit at Ashera's hair.
Ashera laughed at the cute action and reached out to pet Asa’s head. She was so happy to have her as a friend, even if she couldn't speak. They didn't really have much trouble communicating with each other.
Asa trilled, butting her head against Ashera's hand. She liked being with her; Ashera actually tried to understand her. Many past owners had ignored her attempts at communication.
Ashera's smile grew and she scratched behind Asa’s head. She really loved how sweet and affectionate the young Dragon was. ”You’re such a good friend, Asa. I'm glad we met. I really feel like I could tell you anything.” she admitted sweetly.
Asa smiled at Ashera, but there was something sad in her eyes. She wished she could say the same, but she couldn't. She had had a previous owner whom she had thought would keep her secret. She had been on the run for ages.
Ashera tilted her head slightly as she saw the look in Asa’s eyes. ”Is something wrong, sweetie?” she asked gently.
Asa quickly shook her head. Stupid, stupid, she thought to herself. She couldn't let that happen; letting her true emotions through would just cause trouble. Instead, she nuzzled Ashera's neck, then pulled away and motioned towards the next shop. Her own half-hearted way of saying "Let's go."
Ashera gave a soft smile at the nuzzling and nodded, following Asa to the shop. She didn't understand the sad look but it concerned her. What had happened to Asa to upset her like that? One thing she was sure of, she was never going to hurt Asa and she wanted her to be happy.
Asa went back to being happy when they came to the shop. She flew around it, breathing all the new scents.
”Asa, stay close.” Ashera called out as she continued to follow, directing toward the toy section.
