Anya sat next to eve, practicing small flames. Her mouth smoked again.
"You know, darling, it terrifies me when you do that," Eve murmured, watching the smoke drift from between Anya's lips. Her plump… kissable lips.
" how so? " She asked and put out the fire.
"I've never seen any fire fairy do something like that before. And it worries me." Eve reached out and brushed some of Anya's hair out of her face. "It looks unnatural."
" I'm not sure what it is, if I'm mad enough.. the flame eats me from the inside out.."
"Then don't get mad," Eve replied with a laugh at her own statement. Practically impossible.
Anya laughed a bit " it happens more often then not."
"Oh, I know love," Eve replied. "You just need to be able to control your emotions." She paused for a moment, an unreadable expression on her face before she began to shake her head. "God, I sound like my mother."
" yeah," Anya cringed " yeah ya do."
"Definitely. But I'm not sure it warrants that reaction though."
Eve looked up to see Dowling standing in front of them with her eyes glowing silver-blue. She felt heat rise on her face and suddenly became very invested in studying the wood of her desk while a knowing smirk bloomed on Dowling's lips.
Anya started laughing. " Sorry, couldn't help it. " She said. Though her laughs soon turned to coughs.
"Mmm, I think you could," Dowling gave the girls a once-over and circled around behind them.
Eve was doing her best not to look at anything but a small knot in the wood.
Anyas eyes pricked with teas "ouch.."
"But Eve is right," Dowling pointed out, coming to stand beside Anya. "You need to be working on controlling your emotions. Negative emotions are unreliable and unsustainable. Clear your mind and narrow your focus."
" narrowing it is what causes the explosion but leaving it open for bad emotions causes flame."
Dowling tilted her head. "What?"
" that's what I said. One time this lady I worked with.. she said the more stronger emotion.. fear anger guilt.. they'll make my flame. But it burns from inside if I can't release it, hense the smoke. "
Eve slipped her hand onto Anya's thigh while Dowling's eyes narrowed. "And who in the Otherworld told you that?"
Anya's eyes narrowed " i never got her name, and she disappeared not to long ago."
Something in Dowling's expression changed. Her eyes studied Anya for a moment before she moved on to another pairing of students.
Eve shifted in her seat, set on edge by the encounter.
Anya let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. " Go any father up eve and I swear you won't get it tonight. "
"Oh, really?" Eve murmured, but she let her hand slide off Anya anyway. "What was that about?"
" not sure, I just think she's worried is all. " She mumbled softly as the bell rang " great training "
Eve stood and spared a glance at her mother, who was watching the two of them – more specifically, watching Anya – with an intense gaze. What would Dowling have to be worried about? Eve shook her head. She'd figure it out later. "Yeah," she agreed absently, breaking her stare with her mother and moving to lead Anya out of the classroom.
Anya made it to the board, getting up up to face her first opponent
