Nathaniel looked confused. The nurse had said all four main directions, which clearly wasn't possible and not very helpful. Also, how could something be both East and West?

Lilith walked into the doctor's office. "Ruby," she greeted. "Angel on hand. Shot out of the sky by a duck hunter, crash-landed. Weakly patched up. Fever and… ten years old. Not fully developed. His wing got shot."

“Oh, do you have the medicine for the fever?” Ruby asked, getting dressing from her cabinets.

Nathaniel sat on the cot patiently, watching the doctor walking around the room for various things.

"…no? I'm not a doctor, Ruby."

Ruby walked up to Nathaniel, looking at his oddly bent wings. “Does it hurt-wait it got shot, of course it hurts, sorry, Sweetie. Before I can treat it, I have a few questions.”

"Y-yes, ma'am." Nathaniel folded his hands in his lap, trying his best to ignore the pain in his wings.

“Did you treat the wound? Sanitize it? And for goodness sake Lilith-“ Ruby just sighed, her fingers and arms felt bare, she would usually wear a lot of amulets. However, in this building, her attire had to be professional.

"Um, I-I don't know ma'am. I was barely conscious."

“Oh, poor child. What was the distance that you fell? But just Incase, I’m going to sanitize it again. It will sting, a lot.” Ruby warned, she got the cotton balls and alcohol.

"I… fairly far? I-I was flying, and then I felt a terrible pain in my wing… a-and I fell to the ground…"

“I see…” Ruby murmured, she dabbed the cotton ball soaked with alcohol on the wound.

Nathaniel flinched, shying away from the alcohol. He tried his best to keep quiet and still, but it hurt a lot.

“Does it sting a lot?” Ruby asked, she put down the cotton ball.

He nodded but stayed quiet, determined to get done whatever needed to be done.

Ruby gave him the basket full of lollipops, “So now that the wound is sanitized… but the wing is broken. It’ll heal. It needs to be wrapped correctly… hm..”

"I-I'm pretty sure they're both broken, ma'am. Er, c-crushed, actually. T-they took most of the impact of the fall…"

(I know they’ll heal but won’t be able to properly function? LET’S JUST SAY ONCE AN ANGEL’S WING IS BROKEN, IT’LL HEAL BUT WONT BE ABLE TO WORK. Is that fine?)
“… oh yeah, the wings are broken. I need to properly dress them…”

"Okay…" Nathaniel watched the process quietly. "Er, ma'am? W-will I ever be able to fly again?"

Ruby sighed and brushed back her stray hairs, she took a deep breath, “No.”

Nathaniel's heart dropped and he had the sinking feeling of fear and despair in his stomach. He drew in a shaky breath and looked away, trying not to cry.

Ruby felt terrible, she hated when she had to bring the bad news to the children and family. Why did I become a family doctor?

Lilith awkwardly patted his shoulder.
