"Pfft, fine, I guess." Snatch rolled her eyes and trotted over. "So how do you do it?"
"Don't make too much noise over there, by the way," Mike said from the other side of the fire.
"Pfft, fine, I guess." Snatch rolled her eyes and trotted over. "So how do you do it?"
"Don't make too much noise over there, by the way," Mike said from the other side of the fire.
“Yeah yeah,” Tanrial rolled her eyes a little but kept her voice at a lower volume, “You need to dig deep inside you, right into your soul. When you do you should find something that resembles a well.”
"A well?" Snatch frowned in confusion. "I don't understand."
“Close your eyes,” Tanrial instructed, “And look inside you, you should feel something before you see it.”
Still frowning, Snatch did as she was told. "But what am I supposed to feel? Should I feel fire?"
“You’ll feel a slight tingle, the deeper you go the more powerful you’ll feel and the tingle should turn into a warmth, something that’ll spread throughout your body. Once you feel that, you should see a flame.”
Snatch sat crouched on the ground for a long time, her eyes squeezed shut more and more tightly with each passing minute. Finally she leapt to her feet with a yowl of frustration. "It's not working! I can't feel anything!"
“Patience. Try again and try to relax. Think of somewhere you’ve been really happy and use that to dig down. Don’t stop digging until you feel something.” Tanrial said softly, leaning back on her hands.
Snatch tried to settle down, but only a few seconds later she jumped up again. "I can't do it! This is so boring and stupid! I want to burn things!" She dug her claws into the ground, faint wisps of smoke rising from her shoulders and wings.
Tanrial have a small smile, “What else makes you mad? Why do you want to burn things?” She asked
"It makes me mad that I can't hunt yet! I want to burn the humans that hurt my mom!" Snatch was getting really angry by now, and the smoke around her was thickening. "I hate being so little, I want to grow up and become the biggest and strongest person in the whole world! Then nobody will mess with me ever!"
Finally, her fur burst into flame. In seconds she was a small furious fireball, her eyes twin points of boiling light. She spread her wings, and somehow they weren't turned to ash in the heat. She didn't even seem to notice the fire.
“Snatch, you need to calm down now, you did it.” Tanrial gestured to the her and how she was on fire.
She blinked in surprise and glanced at her paws. "Huh?" She bounced backward, then started running madly around the campfire in excitement. "I did it! I'm a fire! I'm flaming!"
Bernon opened his eyes and yelped. "What the heck is going on!? Are you guys trying to start a forest fire?"
“No, we’re not. Snatch, calm down.”
Snatch looked disappointed and slowed to a halt. As her energy faded, so did the fire, until she was back to normal without a single singed hair or feather.
"Emotion-triggered fire powers," Mike said without rolling over. "Great. If she were a little older, I'd say she could help us fight Ryker."
(brb, gotta have supper)
(and now I'm off to bed, seeya ^^)
(sorry, I had to put my phone down and went to yoga, seeya tomorrow ^^)
“I don’t see why she can’t help us fight,” Tanrial replied, looking over at Snatch, “If she can learn to control it then she could. Yes, she’s young I understand but the more help we get the better… right?”
(That's okay, no worries!)
Bernon sat up, yawning rather irritably. "No matter how desperate we get, I don't think we should recruit seven-year-olds! Her powers are triggered by her emotions, so there's no way she'll truly be able to control them. Besides, this isn't her fight, and she's lost enough already."
Mike put his hands behind his head and stared up at the treetops. "This is everyone's fight, Bernon. If Ryker has his way, we'll all be affected." He glanced over at Snatch. "What do you think, kiddo?"
Snatch did not reply. The effort of bursting into flame had been too great, and now she was curled up by the fire, fast asleep.
Mike sighed. "Well….let's rethink this in a few days. By then we might know if we'll need her or not. For now, I'm going back to bed."
Bernon nodded reluctantly. "Fine. It's about time for my shift anyway, I'll just stay awake."
“It’s fine Bernon, I can stay up for a few more hours.” Tanrial said, trying to stifle a yawn.
"No no, I don't mind. I don't think I could get back to sleep anyway, not for a while." He smiled at her reassuringly. "If anything happens, you'll be the first to know."
(brb, supper)
Tanrial nodded, “Okay, if you’re sure.” She muttered before lying down on the grass and closing her eyes.
The night passed uneventfully. At one point, Snatch got up and went over to Tanrial, curling up next to her where it was warm. She stayed there until morning, purring quietly.
As the sun rose, Mike stoked the fire and began heating up last night's leftovers. The smell was enough to wake the others, and Bernon sat up before his eyes were fully open. "Breakfast good," he mumbled. "Eat now."
Tanrial groaned a little and cracked an eye open and saw Snatch next to her. She smiled softly before sitting up, trying not to wake the cub in the process, “Already got breakfast going then?” She yawn and looked over at Bernon and Mike.
