Mike rose and beckoned. "It's okay," he said quickly. "Let's go, let's go, we can still make it."
Mike rose and beckoned. "It's okay," he said quickly. "Let's go, let's go, we can still make it."
Tanrial nodded, “And let’s hurry too.” She placed the dagger back at her side and quickly started walking once more.
Mike picked up the pace to an erratic walk-trot, stopping to look and listen frequently, darting between bits of cover as they went. They ended up changing course a bit to distance themselves from the hunter's corpse more quickly, cutting across the creek and through the aspen grove on the other side.
(brb, supper real quick)
Tanrial followed, keeping pace and constantly checking behind them in case of any others that might be following. They was more then just one, she just had to find them.
Bernon glanced behind them and plunged forward. "There's one after us," he hissed. "Look out!"
(oopsie, gotta go :( seeya tomorrow!)
Tanrial dived behind a tree for cover and drew her sword, ready for the fight.
(Aww, seeya tomorrow!)
Mike growled and turned around, somehow ending up back-to-back with Bernon.
"More coming on either side," Bernon said.
"Don't waste any time here," Mike barked. "Only deal with the ones that get in your way. If we're separated, meet at the west edge of the woods near the creek." He then leapt to engage the first attacker, snapping his opponent's bow completely in two.
“Got it!” Tanrial turned and clashed swords with another, the sound ringing throughout the forest. She dodged his next attack and lunged at his left side hitting him easily.
Bernon tripped up one hunter that ran past him and pushed the remains of a rotting tree onto him. "Watch out for their arrows! I don't want to get sick again personally!"
“Yeah, got it!” Tanrial pushed the hunter to the ground and ran.
Bernon and Mike fell in behind her, fending off hunters as they went. Somebody screamed on Mike's side, but it didn't sound like Mike so it was probably no big deal. Bernon kicked a hunter out of the way and came up beside Tanrial.
"We're almost out," he panted. "I see open ground ahead! Will they follow us?"
“I’m not sure!” She breathed, dodging the trees in their way.
Mike vaulted a fallen tree and used both feet to take out a hunter that blocked his path. "Keep moving! Don't stop when we hit the edge of the trees!"
Tanrial blasted her magic to delay them a little, “Hurry, we’re almost there!”
They raced towards the increasingly large patch of blue, dodging arrows and outstretched branches alike. Then they burst out into the open grasslands, still going at full speed.
"Did they stop?" Bernon cried, too tired to look back. "Are they still after us?"
“Don’t look, I’m sure we’ll find out if they’re following.”
Mike settled into a steady jog-sprint. "We'll stop at that big cottonwood two hills away. If they're still after us then, we stop and fight."
“Agreed, we need to hurry up then.” Tanrial quickened her pace a little.
"Not too much, I hope," Bernon puffed. "I don't have much energy left if we have to face them all after this."
"It's not far," Mike replied. "Just keep running."
Tanrial nodded and kept pace with the others the hills drawing nearer as they ran. None of them dared to look behind them and check if they were still being followed.
Finally they reached the large, solitary tree and ground to a halt. Mike instantly turned and scanned the plain behind them, squinting through the morning mist. "I don't see anyone. Do you?"
“Nothing…” She paused, listening, “Don’t hear anything either…Bernon?”
Bernon straightened up from his doubled over position and tilted his head. "Um…..no? I think we're clear."
