Roscoe looked at the pink blob as it morphed in front of their eyes, turning from a shapeless thing to a pale pink, shapeless dragon. "Oh my god, I think we may have accidentally created a mammal?" He asked. He wasn sure what it is but he picked up the container and took it to a couple heating lamps to keep it warm. "What the hell just happened?" He asked the others
”I have never seen something like that happen before! And whatever that may have been; it happened very fast.” Hannah commented. ”Maybe it would help to know what was originally unexpected about this experiment and how long ago you started on it.”
"I started this experiment out of curiosity. I was curious to make a dragon that could shift its scales. I wanted this one to be able to transform its scales to metal or diamond, something like that. I just looked at whatever extra sample we had and created a solution that didnt blow up in my face." Roscoe explained, looking at the container in which the creature had shifted again, forming eyes, a mouth, and defined body parts.
Alex watched the little pink blob. She thought for a moment, “Is it cool if I take a DNA sample from it?”
”Well, it seems like she did get the shifting you mentioned.” Hannah noted with a brief sigh. She wouldn't pretend to know what went into what when making a Dragon but just using a spare sample that was lying around seemed… unsafe. Even if it did work this time. ”And when did you realize that your solution was a success?”
"Sure!" He gestured to Alex and turned back to Hannah. "I added a secret formula a couple days back, TB2LB5, along with mercury, powdered ruby, and Calcite shavings.
Alex grinned and took one of the needles to draw a little bit of blood from the dragon creature thing. She had a little grin on, "Something interacted together and made it like this."
"I wonder what kind of creature it will become."
(Di you guys want to skip a couple months or weeks to a point where they are working on the new dragon?)
(I'm fine with a time skip.)
A coupled months had passed and the team had started working on the new creature. So far they were almost certain which animal's DNA would give them results closer to what was required from them. The pink blob had grown to big for its container and was big enough to start walking around. It was about the size of a teacup puppy right now so it liked hanging around the team. It still didnt have and scales but had wing like appendages and tried flying around with them. It was something that allowed them to take their mind off of the difficult task they were given.
Alex had a little grin on his face as the pink blob pranced around. He hadn’t expected it to be this well formed from the get go and was overly impressed with the results. He had tried his best to go down ill fated paths only to be scolded and put back down the right one. He was currently messing around with squirrel and snake dna just to see what would happen on his simulator.
Aelia was at her station mixing some chemicals to see the results. The glob they had accidentally made had grown tremendously in the past few months. It walked around awkwardly and made squeak like noises to communicate. They had never officially named their little accident but most of the group had already become attached to it and liked playing with it when they had time to. And, playing helped develop the creatures movements too.
Hannah was looking at some X-rays, showing the development of the little pink wonder. It was amazing how well it was doing medically considering how mysterious it was. She was holding off on doing the blood work tests because of its current size and the corresponding size of its veins. As for the ”Godzilla” project; she knew everyone else didn't want to take part either but whenever they were presented with a course of action, she listed off several medical reasons why it wouldn't work in the long or short term. Unfortunately, she was starting to run out of excuses.
Roscoe sighed and stepped away from his table. "I give up. Anyone want to name the blob?" He asked, trying to get his mind off of the work.
Alex glanced over at Roscoe looking away from the screen over towards Roscoe. He gave him a little shrug, "We could call it Rosa? It means pink in Spanish."
"Why not? It's better than simply referring to it as pink blob from time to time." He laughed
Alex had a little smile on, "Great. Rosa the blob. Wait, better name. Bob the blob!"
Hannah laughed. ”I am not calling her ”Bob the blob”. Rosa works fine for me.”
"How about Jello?" Roscoe joked, trying not to fall off his still from laughing
Alex let out a laugh as he (she? gah!) heard the next name offered, "Jello is worse than Bob the Blob and I suggested it!"
(Lol why not use Xe/Xim/Xir?)
Roscoe laughed. "At least we can call rosa by something other than pink blob." He said, using a finger to scratch under her neck.
(Why dont one of you create a new creature like Rosa and it could be the dragon we had to build?)
(Becuase Alex is a confused child that's gender changes on an irregular basis.)
He gave a little nod and grinned like only Alex could, "Indeed we can."
”So… Are we agreed on Rosa, then? It'll be nice to actually have something on her file other than the scientific number code for reference.” Hannah admitted.
Roscoe grinned. "Meet Rosa the team mascot!" He said, raising g her in the air and hearing her squeak in happiness. From the nursery, Acyn and Elio were watching the Pink dragon with curiosity in their eyes. 'why don't they let the Dragonling play with us?' Acyn mindlinked Elio. The dragons were at an age where they were starting to communicate their thoughts with those other than their caretakers and Roscoe was much happier that he didnt have to act as a messenger when the twins fought.
