"Yeah, bit if I would've known that you-" Juliet shook her head. Leave it be…. she told herself. "You know what? Forget it! Let's enjoy the food and make some new memories…" She had to remind herself once more that Zackary…. he wasn't human. He wasn't like her, he had a different past. One more brutal and unforgiving than anything she would ever know.
“New memories…” Zackary repeated hazily, looking blankly at the glass of water at his elbow. No one has ever been so determined to make… new memories with him…
“Okay. That sounds er… nice?”
Avi grinned. "I'm glad!" She took the the tank top and ran it under the ice-cold tap water. "This'll keep the blood from setting until we can get it washed."
She looked into the mirror quickly. It's been a long while since she'd last seen herself. Still strangely pretty. Not like I don't get enough guys hitting on me already. She rolled her eyes.
Avi looked at Lillian as she let the excess blood run down the drain. "Whatcha rolling your eyes about?"
"Thinking about how much of a headache it's going to be to get back to my last job employer. I'll have men in my tail left and right, that's going to be fun." She scoffed sarcastically.
Juliet raised a brow to him. "You make them sound more daunting than they really are. You've already made a couple new memories already. You met me: New memory. You met this angel, right here-" She pinched Qhuinn's cheek, causing the little one to squeal. "Boom! New, memory. You've tasted my cooking. Another splendid, new memory. It's fairly simple and seemingly harmless." She set her elbow on the table and rested her cheek in her hand.
She placed a hand on his. "Listen, I'm not gonna have you do anything outrageous except maybe chase after runaway bike with my son on it before it hits a tree or something."
Zackary chuckled softly at Julie’s finalizing statement. “Right. I’d probably do that without you asking. Since it’s part of my contract and all.” He shrugged and smiled. “And I know you wouldn’t. You’re not the type.”
"And don't you forget it." Juliet gave his hand a gentle pat before taking it away and placing it under the table as Todd approached with their meals. Juliet tried to look as if nothing had happened, put Todd raised a suspicious brow.
"Here you are, baby doll." He winked at Juliet before turning away, humming "Vision of Love", a song Juliet use to sing during her shifts at the small restaurant, when she had first moved to the area.
She shook her and took a deep breath of the hot plate of food before them.
Zackary didn’t like the way their waiter just winked at her. Not much at all. Zackary side glanced Julie, raising an eyebrow.
“What’s his deal?” He tried not to sound as disgusted as he was.
Picking up her fork, Juliet looked to Zackary. "He's just a friend. He and I worked here together a year ago." She took a bit of her mac and cheese and sighed with satisfaction. "Don't be so serious looking, you look like you're ready to follow him into the bathroom and make him disappear." She smirked. Was Zackary….jealous?
Zackary quickly plucked up a fork and turned his attention to the food. “Mhm. Imean, no, I wasn’t.” He hastily took a forkful of food and ate it to cover his blunder. How could he be jealous? He wasn’t jealous.
Juliet laughed lightly. "Huh. Okay." She turned to Qhuinn, feeding him a small fork of mac and cheese. She cooed to the little boy, but her mind ws still on Zackary. Why had he acted the way he had?
Zackary was distracted with the look the guy gave her instead of eating. He had just winked like she was his to wink at. How dare he?
Juliet glanced over at Zack from time to time, watching him. He wasn't eating. "Hey." she nudged him. "You sure you're okay?"
Zackary started slightly and looked at her. He wasn’t the best with people suddenly talking to him. It was… just a thing.
“Huh? Oh, I’m alright.”
Juliet blinked. "You lie once more. You're not eating and you've been staring at Todd like he murdered your mother or something like that." She pointed out, jutting her fork over to Todd as he wiped down a table.
Zackary hastily went back to eating. “Mm. I suppose I have been.” He shrugged a bit.
Concern covered her gaze as she put her fork down. She took Zack's hand. "What's wrong?" Why was he acting so strange all of a sudden? "Do you….know him?"
"Thinking about how much of a headache it's going to be to get back to my last job employer. I'll have men in my tail left and right, that's going to be fun." She scoffed sarcastically.
Avi thought for a second as she wrung out the clothes. "Why don't you stick with me and my acquaintance for a bit? I'm kinda on the run from a few people too, and I've learned how to avoid capture. And now I've got the insurance of Sariel. I made a contract with her to help me avoid detection/capture."
Concern covered her gaze as she put her fork down. She took Zack's hand. "What's wrong?" Why was he acting so strange all of a sudden? "Do you….know him?"
Zackary puckered his lips over the fork. “Mmno,” He mumbled after a second. “I don’t.” He swallowed the food he was chewing and set the fork down.
Juliet gave his hand a squeeze. She looked into his eyes, remembering the first time she was trapped in his gray gaze. She wasn't scared anymore, so she smiled instead. "Do you like the food?"
Zackary turned his eyes so they were on hers. They were still sharp but soft, somehow, at the same time.
“Yeah. The food’s great.”
"Good." She picked up her fork and continued to eat. She hummed softly, feeding Qhuinn every other moment. She would let the moment go, let it fade. New memories! she told herself
Zackary really hoped she didn’t remember his jealousy. Sure, he was fiercely protective of anyone who was nice to him. That’s understandable. He grabbed another forkful of food to distract himself.
