(sure why not) Kaz was sitting in a small brick-and-mortar cafe tucked into the alley. It was small, and quiet, and he loved it all the same. It was picturesque, and he kept telling himself that when he had the time he'd sit down and paint the interior to give to the shop owners as a gift. He'd been a regular for a couple months, and now the elderly couple that owned the shop would save him a parking spot when he showed up. He smiled to himself, sipping his coffee as he scrolled through an article on the most recently discovered sea creature
(ok see ya)
Dara walked down the busy sidewalk, keeping her head down and her books close to her chest. She'd just left the lab and she was already missing it. The emotions of the people walking past bombarded her like a bad smell –overwhelming and annoying all at once. She was getting a headache. But she couldn't stay holed up forever. She knew she'd eventually run out of snacks.
She headed into some old café in an alley to grab something to eat, hoping she could just be in and out.
Kaz looked up from his scrolling, hearing the jingle of the doorbell interrupt his musing. He glanced over towards the door, seeing an irritated-looking girl walk through the door.
Ugh. Dara felt mild curiosity emanating from the dude sitting sipping coffee with a laptop. She felt tempted to tell him off, but she decided that glaring at him would do. She strode to the counter to order something to eat, hoping he'd take the hint and stop looking at her.
Deley was in a café she was really trying not to be noticed. Though that was kind of hard with her strange appearance.
Kaz frowned back at her, going back to his phone. He hadn't meant to look rude while he stared, but not everybody has nice reactions to people. He sighed, going back to studying. He had to pass this test to work at the garage a couple blocks away, and he had never been good with written tests
Cyrus pushed open the door, panting as he stepped inside. He actually had to duck to enter, not wanting to risk smacking his head on a doorframe. Some would be surprised about how often it happened to him, considering his height. He ordered a straight black coffee and paid before sitting at a table, frowning when it seemed that his knees wouldn’t fit well. He had to awkwardly stretch his legs out for his longer limbs to fit, brow furrowed.
He glanced around, the room looking empty to him at times. His vision was strange. Most things were a red color, but living creatures were always a blinding white to him. But, his vision was based more on movement. When someone would sit still in the shop, their white figure would vanish from his vision, appearing when they moved. He sipped his coffee, red eyes squinting in slight frustration as bodies flickered in and out of his vision.
Kaz, still staring mindlessly at the document he was studying, decided that he was done for the day. Sure he knew how to weld and everything else they were asking, he was just horrible at putting what to do in words. He huffed, frowning a little as he looked down at his hands. His cousin convinced him to pain his nails black, and the paint was chipping. He glanced over at the new person who had just entered, sipping his coffee. He was kinda cute, but he immediately stopped that train of thought. Or tried to, at least
There were so many conflicting emotions in this one damn coffee shop. Dara almost growled in frustration. The barista looked a bit scared but Dara didn't really care. "Just give me a coffee and some of those real chocolate-y pastries. Got it?"
Deley felt the contraction to warn her of a shift beginning. She forced them down and tried to focus on her book and coffee.
Kaz winced a little at the angry woman at the counter. He wished he could tell her to be nicer, but he didn't want to seem rude. He began to tap his foot, loosely tied laces tapping loudly against the hardwood floor
"You got a problem?" Dara didn't realize she'd said anything to him until after she'd said it. She regretted it instantly. Why, oh, why didn't her mouth have a filter? She wished she could disappear.
Kaz looked like a deer caught in headlights, his foot stopping. "Um…" He struggled, trying to decide whether or not to take the tough guy approach like he vaguely wanted to or to ignore the impulse. "Do you have a problem with me?" he said, trying to make his tone sound as non-threatening as possible
Cyrus shifted his posture slightly, feeling a aching pain in his shoulder blade. The last time he had shifted, he must have hurt himself somehow. Couldn’t remember how, all he remembered was waking up in the dirt in the middle of no where with what felt like a broken shoulder. The gnawing hunger in his stomach was enough to help him ignore the pain, not that it was any better. He hadn’t eaten meat in weeks, and he didn’t plan on it. Damn shifting, always made him sick to his stomach afterwards.
His senses twitched, feeling eyes on him for a moment. His gaze shifted to a man who looked to be around his age. He was decently handsome, from what Cyrus could tell. It tended to be difficult to distinguish details from farther away because of his strange vision. But the man’s figure flickered slightly multiple times, and Cyrus directed his gaze back to his coffee, becoming slightly more irritated.
Aw, okay, he was nervous too. The thought kind of set her at ease. She relaxed a little, her brows uncurling as she focused on his emotions and tried to block out the rest of the café. "Sorry, never mind. Long day." She winced. "Plus i'm never usually out at this hour. I'm not the best when the sun is still up."
