Curling herself into a ball, Hunter held still. Kye was wrapped around her, and while she didn't like that he hadn't asked, he wouldn't let go, even if she asked. They fell into the crack, and They stood above it, howling.
Curling herself into a ball, Hunter held still. Kye was wrapped around her, and while she didn't like that he hadn't asked, he wouldn't let go, even if she asked. They fell into the crack, and They stood above it, howling.
The tree crashed to the ground taking Kye and Hunter with it. They Kye hit branches of the tree and then hit the ground. He didn't move for a moment, then he let go of Hunter and rolled away from her. Pain flared when he moved. Broken ribs, great, he thought. "Hunter are you okay?"
She was unconscious. Somewhere, a branch had hit her head, and there was blood everywhere.
Kye pushed himself to his feet, clutching his chest, groaning in pain. He looked up and could see shapes running around and some trying to make their way down to them. He limped over to Hunter and crouched next to her. "Hunter?" she didn't respond. Blood was soaking the ground around her. Kye picked her up bridal style and began making his way out of the fallen tree. Then he followed the crack into a cave system.
Hunter was in pain. She could feel every bump, and it jarred her head more. She could hear things, but they sounded as though from far away. She just wanted to sleep…
Kye found a ledge and settled on it. They were in the pitch black now and Kye was cold, he'd taken them through an underwater river, to hide any trail they might leave. He lit his torch when he was sure they were in the clear for the moment. He moved over to Hunter, who he had set down carefully, and began bandaging her head. When he was done he didn't try to wake her up he was just going to let her sleep.
Farther along the hall, a cave waited. It was barred by a stone, and there was something carved on the stone.
Kye had gotten a small fire going, and was keeping an eye, and ear, out for anything that might have either followed them or been attracted to the light of his fire. He also kept glancing back at Hunter, he knew that she could clearly take care of herself, but he also knew that she was human. Maybe not fully human, or from earth, but neither was he. He was half elf, and half Seige Warrior, and from earth backwards. But even he felt human at times. He wasn't a rock, he had feelings, and emotions. He also knew what it was like being alone. It wasn't fun, and he knew that. He wasn't sure how many times she'd done something like this before, and been let down, and he felt like he had to be different. Like he had to help her. Somehow.
Hunter stirred. She opened her eyes, squinting. Where was she? She wanted to go back to sleep. It was calm, and dark, and there was no pain.
Kye noticed Hunter's eyes open slightly, he walked over and added a small branch to the fire he had going. But he didn't say anything. He would wait until she started talking. This was so if she passed out again, she wouldn't leave him wondering about something she said. Plus she would probably have a huge head ache, and any noise would be more painful.
Hunter sat up slowly. She groaned, rubbing her head, and her fingers found dried blood. "What-"
"Try not to move to much," Kye whispered. "You hit your head pretty good."
(Bump)
Hunter rubbed her head. "We're in the cavern, aren't we?" She said. She had bad memories of the place, the one time she had been here. Let's just say she hated the sight of mangoes from then on.
"Yeah, the things that had been above ground have not found us yet," Kye looked around the cave for a moment. "Though I can hear them howling to each other every once in a while. How are you feeling?"
"Like a stampede of elephants ran over me," she said.
"Sounds about right," Kye gave a soft smile of amusement. "That's about how I feel every time I fall off a cliff and hit my head. And due to the fact that I spend a lot of time going back and forth. I tend to fall down a few cliffs. So you know these caves?"
Hunter eyed them. She sighed. "I do. Bad memories here." She stood dizzily. "We should go."
Kye suddenly jumped over to Hunter, grabbing her and pulling back into the pitch blackness. He had a hand over her mouth as he moved them away from the warmth and light of the fire.
Hunter almost protested, then heard the noise too. She stepped quietly towards it, staying to the shadows.
Kye stayed next to her, his sharp eyes scanning what seemed like nothing but black. Then he gently brushed his fingers on her arm motioning for her to follow. He'd pinpointed where the sound had come from.
She nodded and headed down the dark cavern.
Kye moved without making a sound, he had to stop every once in a while to make sure Hunter didn't lose him. Then he came to a complete stop. Ahead of him a small light was flickering in the tunnel.
Hunter was pretty sure she recognized it, and growled slightly.
Kye turned and shushed her. Then he pointed to the large shape also moving towards the light. Not very far from them.
