Roseshine walked slowly up the sloop to the Moonpool, her mind swamped with memory of Ashfur's dead corpse, ThunderClan accusing ShadowClan of Ashfur's death at a gathering, the anger that filled Firestar's voice, and the way Jayfeather was forced to not sit beside her and next to Leafpool and Mothwing. Her heart ached, StarClan, why'd you have let this happen now? Littlecloud nudged her out of her thoughts, the old pale brown tom looked worried. "are you okay?" he whispered, "you've been distracted ever since last gathering. Is Ashfur's death still bothering you? I know how you are with these things." Roseshine desperately wanted to tell her mentor what happened but she was afraid that if she told Littlecloud would ignore her like her sister, Ivytail, had. Ivytail bitter words filled her head. "you're lying. Who would kill their own clanmate? your mind is filled with mush! then again, it's always been that way." Shaking the thought out of her mind, she turned to face the ShadowClan medicine cat. "i-it's nothing." she stammered, "I'm just thinking too much, sorry if I'm worrying you, Littlecloud." Littlecloud sighed but gave a kind smile, "well, i'm sure you want to walk with Jayfeather," Roseshine looked confused and then she cleared her throat, I'm such a feather-brain! I forgot about Jayfeather! "I can smell him and Leafpool coming up the hill. Why don't you go back and meet them, i'll go on ahead. Just don't do anything mouse-brained." There was a teasing note in the old tom's tone, Roseshine purred, she could tell that he was reminding her of the time she got stuck in a bramble thicket trying to catch a mouse before the Moonpool meeting. That happened many moons ago when she was still a lovesick apprentice, Littlecloud couldn't even contain his laughter as he tried getting her out of the thicket. Roseshine smiled, "yeah, yeah." she joked, "I'll try." she watched as Littlecloud walked on ahead, after a few seconds of watching her mentor, she bounded towards Jayfeather's scent. "Jayfeather!" she called as soon as she saw the blind tom padding alongside Leafpool. Jayfeather looked annoyed but as soon as he heard her he looked up, his ears lifting. "Roseshine! there you are!" Roseshine purred, "how are you?" she asked as she started walking alongside him. "I'm doing better now that you're here," Roseshine looked away shyly, he's gotten better with his compliments. "oh, and thank StarClan you got here when you did, Leafpool was droning on about something that happened when I was off collecting herbs." Roseshine hummed, "I see. I was just thinking of something really boring when you weren't here." Jayfeather seemed interested, "what was this boring thing?" Roseshine went to respond but then she realized Leafpool was right there, "why don't i tell you in private?" Leafpool hesitated but responded, "I don't see why not." She cast Jayfeather a careful glance, as if she were afraid Jayfeather would lash out at her. "but hurry!" Leafpool walked away, Roseshine heard the brown tabby she-cat call out to her mate Mothwing. This was it, now her and Jayfeather were alone. "so…you realize I was joking right?" "yeah but, i'm not." Jayfeather looked at her, surprised by her response. "oh?" "okay so take this lightly…" she took a deep breath, "Jayfeather, you know i'd never want to hurt you, right?" Jayfeather seemed concerned, "you're making me worry, what's going on." Roseshine shuffled her paws, flicking her tail-tip to-and-fro.
She could finally let Jayfeather know who killed Ashfur. "I know who killed Ashfur." she whispered, feeling almost ashamed for the secret she was about to share. Jayfeather blinked, "you do…?" Roseshine nodded, "I was the ShadowClan cat who you all smelt on Ashfur, I was trying to save him but, it was too late…" Jayfeather nodded, walking over and putting his head on her shoulder. She paused as she felt Jayfeather murmur "It's okay." she felt comforted, but soon felt her heart sink. Jayfeather probably won't like this… "Jayfeather, I… I saw Hollyleaf standing over Ashfur's body." she felt him stiffen but she continued. "She smelt heavy of blood and it made me feel sick- And then she looked my way and I was hiding in a bush and she just-" "what?" Jayfeather took his head off of her shoulder and looked at her as if he could see her. She was confused by him cutting her off. "you saw… Hollyleaf?" Roseshine nodded, realizing Jayfeather couldn't see her she spoke. "yes. I did! I saw her clear as day!" Jayfeather backed up, the fur along his spine ruffled. "you couldn't have! Hollyleaf was in my den resting! she had lost some fur and needed some treatment. How could she kill Ashfur when she was in my den all night!" Roseshine took a step towards him, "I know I saw her! holly green eyes, black pelt, slim tail?" Jayfeather looked away, Roseshine could feel the worry radiating off of him. "that sounds like her.." he mumbled. "It was her." Roseshine felt a lump of emotion in her throat, "Hollyleaf killed Ashfur." Jayfeather finally faced her, his face was twisted into an unreadable expression. "she couldn't have. Hollyleaf wouldn't kill." Roseshine flattened her ear to her head, "Jayfeather I know what I saw-" "Of course you saw it!" Roseshine went to go speak but Jayfeather growled at her, "don't speak to me. Hollyleaf would never kill a cat! not even in the heat of battle!" there was something hidden in his response but she didn't understand. "I don't-" "I told you to not talk to me!" Jayfeather snapped, Roseshine opened her mouth to speak but she couldn't think of anything to say. She couldn't believe this was Jayfeather's reaction. He's acting like he ate a bitter berry! She just stared after him. "J-Jayfeather….I-" Roseshine saw his claws unsheathe and dig into the rocked ground. "don't." She couldn't speak as she watched him leave, his tail lashed angrily behind him. She looked down at her paws. She felt a drop of rain fall on the back of her head. "but it was her" she muttered, "I saw her!" she felt the pang in her chest leave and instead felt her blood boil in anger. "Fine! you don't want to talk to me? you don't wanna see me?" she fell sick talking about the blind tom like this. "then you won't." looking behind her, she saw nobody there. Jayfeather had already gone. "I don't belong to anyone. not even ShadowClan." she looked away as the rain began to pitter-patter on her thick cream pelt. "goodbye." she felt the boiling cease. now she felt numb. Would this really be my last goodbye? My last good for something- something so….mouse-brained? she was cut out of her thoughts when she heard Littlecloud call her name through the now heavy rain. I gotta get out of here!
Twirling around, she pelted down the steep, slippery rocky him. She stumbled a few times as she let out a spray of dirt, mud, and pebbles behind. She didn't want to go to the Moonpool anymore. She didn't wanna see anyone anymore. She just wanted to be alone. Ivytail had left her alone, she left Russetfur alone, and now Jayfeather. She didn't want to think about him. She tried to tell Jayfeather but he wouldn't listen, he could be the stubborn know-it-all and find out for himself! Crossing into ShadowClan territory, Roseshine scanned the large pines. She was trying to find the one place she loved to go to when she didn't want to be in camp. Finally she saw it. A massive, thick dark pine tree. She remembered hunting when she was training as a warrior. Russetfur brought her here to hunt and her stupid self jumped into the tree like a squirrel and ended up finding a massive hole at the top where an entire family of squirrels lived. She killed them all and dropped them down to Russetfur. She looked back on that memory with fondness. Now's not the time to reminisce on past memories! The rain still fell. Crouching low she leapt up high, her claws outstretched as she dug then into thick pine bark. She almost slipped but used her strength to pull herself up. Her claws felt like they were about to fall out by the time she reached the massive hole. hauling herself inside, the moon had full risen. She felt tired, soaked, betrayed and lonely. I won't be cuddled next to Jayfeather…gah! Why do I always think of him! he left me! shaking her rain-heavy pelt like a dog, she curled into a ball, putting her tail on her nose. She shifted, and then shifted again, and again and finally, again. She lifted her head, growling in frustration. "Why can't I just sleep like a normal cat?" she whispered-yelled. Letting out a deep sigh, she figured she'd try to get comfortable once more. Shifting, again, and putting her tail back over her nose, she closed her pale blue eyes. Impatiently waiting for sleep to come and take her.
"Wake up!" a raspy voice snarled, jumping she lifted her head only to meet with blazing amber eyes narrowed in angry glare. "W-who-" her voice shook as the ragged she-cat cut her off. "Don't even speak!" Roseshine looked the she-cat up and down. The StarClan cat- or well, she guessed it was a StarClan cat- was massive and had messy, ungroomed smokey-black fur with a battle-scarred body, flat muzzle, scraggly looking whiskers and blazing amber-yellow eyes. She was quite frightened by the cat. "you told Jayfeather!" Roseshine felt herself bristle, "I-" "You told him the truth! Who killed Ashfur! you weren't supposed to do that!" Roseshine jumped ungracefully to her small paws, "Why wasn't I! I tell him everything!" "Well maybe you shouldn't have! You should've been what you were told to be, and stayed a warrior!" Roseshine growled loudly, so loud that the old she-cat widened her eyes clearly surprised by the anger. "I never wanted to be a stupid warrior! I want to heal my clanmates! Even if I was happy training as a warrior with Russetfur, I always wanted to be a medicine cat!" "hmph, you're odd…who would willingly want to be a medicine cat?" "Me!" The cat backed away, "you still shouldn't have told. you ruined the prophecy!" Roseshine froze, "prophecy…?" The old cat laughed, "don't tell me your precious Jayfeather never told you! he's part of a life-changing prophecy! Three, kin of your kin, hold the power of the stars in their paws!" Roseshine had to sit down, "he's….wait! Three? Does that mean Lionblaze and Hollyleaf-" "I would like to think so. yes." Roseshine felt uncomfortable now. "so I was with an all powerful, blind cat who can do what?" "he can dream-walk, feel emotions of what others feel, and see what others saw by going through their memories." Roseshine felt a chill run down her spine, "what!?" "hush you frog-brain!" Roseshine shook her head, "please! wake up wake up wake up!" the cat gasped, "what 'are you doing?!" "I'M TRYING TO WAKE UP!"
Roseshine gasped awake in a cold sweat, her pelt felt hot and cold at the same time. Panting she looked around, confused by her surroundings until she realized she was in the pine tree. "I have to leave now." she breathed, still in complete shock by the dream she had. "Jayfeather- or ShadowClan- neither of them can know where I am!" stumbling up to her paws, and hitting her head on the opening, she looked down and almost squealed in shock, Russetfur was leading a patrol near the tree, a few ShadowClan warriors behind the deputy. "Roseshine! Roseshine! Where are you!" they all called out. Russetfur seemed to be the most worried. Littlecloud must've come back to ShadowClan and demanded a search party. Roseshine was glad it wasn't Leaf-fall yet. The leaves were still growing, without the help of the leaves and branches, she was certain she would've been spotted. Her pelt color didn't help either. Pushing herself as close to the floor of the abandoned squirrel home as possible, she waited impatiently for the search party to return to camp. That would be her chance, she would jump out of the tree and run far away from ShadowClan and hide in…. she thought for a few heartbeats and then it hit her. The Tunnels! perfect! Now all she needed to do was wait for this pesky patrol to leave and she could leave. It's not like anyone important would miss me….not even Jayfeather.
