“Well, I do. I love you. I love you a lot.” Rigel let out a small laugh, taking both of Aspen’s hands in his, “I- I was so worried when I thought you died and I wouldn’t be able to fix anything.”
Aspen finally smiled “I guess I’ve been harbouring feelings for you too but I passed them as being normal. I can’t say I love you but I can’t say that I don’t either. I’m in the in between.” She said, frowning to her self
“I- I’m sorry, I forced this on you after you just woke up, Aspen,” Rigel mumbled, slightly ashamed of himself. He bit his lip, wishing he had a cigarette to smoke. Maybe after this he’d go out into the parking lot and take a hit.
“It’s ok. To be honest, I’m grateful. Knowing that you’re here gives me a reason to get better. I’d rather be alive and with you than have one or the other.” She smiled at him
Rigel smiled a little bit more, but finally said, “You probably need a doctor, or are at least hungry?” He asked, looking her over. I should’ve probably made sure she was at least okay physically before I dropped this on her…
“I’m fine, the nurse is just gonna come in here and take my blood.” She said trying not to let her agitation show
Rigel chewed on his lip, wiping the remains of his tears off his face, but finally asked quietly, “Why do you hate hospitals so much?” He tightened his hold on Aspen’s hand slightly, searching her face.
Aspen stayed quiet for a while, playing with his fingers. She looked around the room and then at her IVs and sighed “I hate hospitals because Theo dies in here.” She said quietly
Rigel swallowed the lump in his throat, shifting so he could look at Aspen better. It was his turn to hug her, mumbling, “I guess the reaper has met both of us, then.” He gave Aspen’s hand a small comforting squeeze.
She laughed sadly “Theo wasn’t just anyone, he was my older brother. He was my best friend, my rock, my…well…everything. He was stressed because he had submitted a project in his college robotics class and I was upset because he didn’t spend time with me as much. I forced him to come out and watch a movie with me. We took a detour through the park and there was a group of boys hurting another boy. He went to stop them but they had knives. He…he got stabbed twice in the stomach and punched really badly in the face. I hid behind a tree until they left. Which was 10 minutes later. I had called the police and they came with an ambulance and took him to the hospital. Everything was fine but then the nurse accidentally gave him too much medicine in his IV and he died. He had a heart attack and poisoning.” She said, practically bawling by now
Rigel pressed Aspen up against his chest, holding her close and letting her cry it out a little bit before he spoke, “Shh… shh… I’m here, I’m here…” It wasn’t fair, how life just wanted to take and take until there wasn’t anything left. But Rigel- he couldn’t let it take any more from him, he wouldn’t allow it. So he held onto Aspen tightly, telling her softly, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I’m here, I’m here…”
(These poor, poor, emotionally damaged children. I'm adopting them all. Their happiness is limitless and their bedtime is never)
(XD)
(Lovely)
(I can’t help it but I’m laughing 😆)
Aspen hugged him and wiped her eyes.
(On another note, the others walking in now would be hilarious)
Rigel wiped her cheek with the pad of his thumb, swiping away a tear. “I’m here, I’m here,” He continued to murmur, holding her comfortingly.
“Look at me, I never thought that ide be in the same place my brother was in. I haven’t cried since he died either.” She said
“Your safe, I promise,” Rigel said quietly, letting out a sigh through his nose. He wouldn’t let Aspen die, not after he told her everything. He tried to make a laugh, “And you aren’t allowed to die.”
She smiled slyly “oh really, and whose gonna stop me?”
“I am, of course,” Rigel smirked at her as he said matter-of-factly, “You just aren’t allowed to die, alright.” He tilted his head to the side, eyes gaining a small sparkle in them.
“Nope, I can die if I want to.” She said, leaning back
“Well then I’m coming with you,” He said it light heartedly, even if in the very back of his heart it was a promise. Rigel couldn’t handle any more death like Kate’s, but he pushed the feeling down.
“I wouldn’t allow it.” She told him, fully laying down on the bed looking up at him
“And who’s going to stop me?” Rigel parroted her previous comment, giving her a tiny smirk.
