It would only be polite to avoid talking about a curse, which is exactly why Elowan decided to ask about it. "Curse? You can get cursed here?" In Elowan's kingdom, magic users were few and far between, most of them incredibly weak. Stong wizards, the only people capable of bestowing curses, only passed through once in a blue moon.
Citrus nods and smiles a little. "Yeah. Curse. Here, it's more common for Wizards and Witches, since Crystal encourages magic use. She doesn't burn them at the stake or something barbaric like that. In fact, she really just allows magic as long as it's good for the kingdom. But… When I was little, she wasn't queen and a lot of havoc was created. I got caught up in the mess." Citrus explains.
"Yeah, our policy on magic is a lot stricter. Dad's a total tightass about it and it's heavily penalized so we don't get many users. It's kind of sad, actually. Magic is so rad." Elowan sighed. Burning and torture had fallen out of practice a long time ago, but there were still some pretty hefty penalties on magic use. Mostly fines, but there were a few offenses that could get you stuff like whippings or jail time.
Citrus shakes her head. "Yeah. A lot of people didn't understand magic at all…" She fumbles with her hair. "I've been trying to find a way to break this curse, but no luck."
"Could you use the curse to break the curse? Like, Have someone order you to not obey orders unless you want to? Or does that not work?" The solution seemed fairly obvious, so Citrus had to have thought of it already. Or… maybe not. Sometimes the things Elowan thought were obvious weren't as obvious to the people around her.
Citrus smiles weakly. "Crystal had already tried that. She did the moment I told her. Nothing worked…" She shrugs and sighs. "So I obey my orders and live my life." She chuckles quietly.
"Could you limit it to one person? Get someone to order you to only listen to them? Oh, uh, we can stop talking about this if you don't like it." Curses seemed kind of interesting. Like, could they get Citrus to do superhuman things? Could they make her learn new languages or skills?
Citrus was rather calm answering her questions. "No, sadly that doesn't work. We have tried it before but the longest it's lasted is a day. It's understandable. You're curious." Citrus chuckles. "Besides I'm here to provide answers to questions you have." She smiles at Elowan.
"Yeah, but me being curious doesn't mean I get to be a dick. Tell me if you don't wanna answer a question. So, uh, how do the orders work? Oh shit, did I just give one?" Elowan wanted to not have Citrus hate her. Citrus and she were having a perfectly polite conversation and Elowan hadn't made her cry, so they were half friends already.
Citrus taps her lip. "Oh, no! Don't worry about it." She smiles faintly. "How orders work, is if someone gives me an order… No matter how bad it is… I have to obey. Crystal makes sure that no one gives me those kind of orders of course." She chuckles softly.
"Rad! It's great to know that you're safe and shit. You seem like a nice person. Uh… I feel like this topic is kind of worn out. Got anything new to talk about? And 'get to know you' topics?" Citrus seemed like the kind of person Elowan would drink with back home. Damn, she was going to miss her drinking buddies. Maybe she could start a new circle here. It probably wouldn't be the same, though. The people here were made of different stuff. They didn't have cruelty running through their veins along with the blood.
Citrus laughs softly. "It's alright. If I'm being honest, you're not as bad as some people that I know." She settles down a little and bites her lip in thought. "Hmm… What do you like to do in your spare time?"
"Not a lot, if I'm being honest. I hang around bars, get into fights, and that's about it. What about you?" Elowan hoped she could find some new stuff to do here. Maybe she could extend her hobbies beyond fighting and doing dumb shit while she couldn't really think. Painting could be fun. She'd always thought paintings looked super cool.
