Just when Hayden passed a particularly seedy looking alleyway, a girl who lloked sketchy as hell collapsed at his feet. She was panting and harshly wiping away at the blood that was dripping from her nose. What a scrawny little rat, she should be more careful with where she was going. "Watch where you're going, vermin. You ought to be more careful on these streets."
(As you may have guessed, Hayden's a major prat.)
(Also: Hello @ShadeStar, welcome. I'll probably need a bit of help w/ plot and stuff if you want to talk to anyone)
(Coolio! I'll be here. in the shadows. Stalking. Just call if ya need me!)
(I'm going to bed. Want to talk tomorrow?)
(Yeah. Sorry I disappeared. I'm studying for my finals)
(Dang. Well, you on now?)
(For a bit, yes. I have more finals to study for, but I have a bit of time. I'm just about done.)
(Shoot, now I have to go. :(
(I'm back, you still alive?)
(Yup, about to type my response lol)
Just when Hayden passed a particularly seedy looking alleyway, a girl who llooked sketchy as hell collapsed at his feet. She was panting and harshly wiping away at the blood that was dripping from her nose. What a scrawny little rat, she should be more careful with where she was going. "Watch where you're going, vermin. You ought to be more careful on these streets."
Pushing herself back up, she glared at the boy who had insulted her.
"Takes vermin to know vermin," she spat back, standing up again. It wasn't her fault non-magic users shunned people like her. She hated people like him. Not meaning non-magics. People who rubbed their position in society in others faces. Lata felt compelled to slap the arrogant boy in the face, but resisted, knowing he could report her and have her punished. Words were her only weapon.
"Please, I'm no street rat." He looked down his nose at her, scowling. "Just because you live in a trash heap doesn't mean you should act like a hobo. Honestly, are all slum dwellers like you, or are you the rare disgusting exception?" He let out a sigh and scratched at the dirt the mysterious girl had splashed on his new shoes. At least pops still cared enough to provide for him on the most basic level.
She wanted to laugh at his comment.
"Not like I have a choice, you spoiled brat. At least I don't need mommy or daddy to hold my hand through life," she said, ignoring his question. It's not like she could ask her parents anything anyways, because they've long been in the ground.
"While you're at it, might wanna dig through your trash of an attitude and find some manners," she added, turning away. She admitted she looked a bit ratty from years of living in the slum, but it's not like there were daily donations of clothing and other supplies for daily need.
"Oh, I assure you that there are no parents holding my hand through life." He gave a bitter laugh. "Not that you'd care, I'm sure you think you have better things to do." He gave his signature haughty sniff, something perfected after years of being harrassed for magic. You're less likley to be picked on if you just act like you're bored by everyone. "Can you cough up enough money to replace my shoes, or will I need to come back tomorrow?"
"Oh, yeah, sureeeee, I've got plenty of money on me- Who do you think I am, genius?! I'm a magic user! As if I'd have any form of currency, much less enough to pay for those dumb overpriced shoes," she snapped, voice full of sarcasm. She was now turned to face him, arms crossed over her chest.
"Don't bother coming back. If we're lucky, we'll never have to see each other's faces again," she said, walking away.
Hayden snorted. He wasn't getting new shoes for at least another year, there was no way he was letting this go. "I'm not going to leave you along until I get money for these shoes," He said, letting a hint of anxiety leak into his tone. He flinched when he realized it, hoping the girl wouldn't comment.
"Watch me," she said, not stopping in her movement away from him. If he dared followed, she could easily lose him. The slum was her area of knowledge, him having no clue about anything there.
He sighed, cracking his fingers. Perhaps he should try to cast a tracking spell. He frowned, watching the girls retreating back. His skills there were unpracticed, but there was no way for him to know if it would work. Soon the girl was out of sight, forcing him to jog in order to catch up. Following on foot would be the smartest course of action for now.
Hearing footsteps, she broke into a run, weaving around buildings, in and out, trying to lose him. Lata felt confident that without being able to find her he would leave. Or the others would find him and shoo him away. After stealing some of his things most likely. Lata almost laughed at the thought. Spoiled little boy…
Quickly, not seeing him behind her, she crawled into a window of an abandoned building. In the corner sat a small makeshift cot. And it was all hers. She was lucky enough to even have that.
Hayden jogged after her, nearly loosing her every time she rounded a corner. He eventually enchanted a gust of wind to follow her, ensuring that he wouldn’t loose her. After a couple more minutes, she stopped at an abandoned building and crawled in a window. There was a cot and not much else inside, unsurprising considering the state of her hair and clothes.
Whipping around she saw the boy from earlier crawling in her window.
"Are you dense or something? Please just leave," she ordered, completely irritated. Making a gesture toward his shoes, she added, "It's just mud. Wash it off."
“Trust me, They’re definity ruined by now. They’re,” He blushed, rubbing the back of his head. “Delicate. They probably couldn’t survive a light shower, let alone a dousing in this urine soaked mud. Look, is there any way for you to get some money? Maybe get a job somewhere?” He inwardly cringed at how stuck up he sounded. God, Magic was all but outlawed. This girl could never get a job.
