“For a friend,” Haven repeated to herself quietly. She smiled. It was nice to have a friend in a horrible world.

Vaughn finished the stitching, then wrapped gauze and bandages around her leg tightly. “There. I’ll let you rest there for a bit,” he said, standing. He was careful not to touch anything, as his hands were flecked with her blood.
She nodded and lay down on the cot, going to sleep.

(Alright.)
Vaughn had been sitting in the front in the desk chair. It wasn’t comfortable, but he had been stressed and exhausted, so he managed to drift off. When he woke up, he yawned and stretched, muscles feeling sore. He got up and went into the backroom to check on Haven.
She was sitting up, testing if she could put weight on her leg. When he entered, she looked up. “Hey,” She said.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” Vaughn asked softly, leaning against the doorframe.
“Okay, More or less. Don’t think I’lol be able to walk for the time being,” she said, smiling weakly. “How are you?”
Vaughn nodded his head slowly. He considered how he should answer before he gave his usual response. “I’m alright.”
“You always say that,” she pretended to grumble, but smiled anyways.
Vaughn shrugged his shoulders, the corner of his mouth twitching up into a faint smile. “Because that’s how I always feel.”
“Oka,” She said, leaning back.
“Do you need me to get you anything?” Vaughn asked, sitting on the edge of the cot.
“Maybe some food and water.”
“Alright, I’ll be back in a moment.” Vaughn left the back room for about ten minutes, coming back with a few bottles of water and various food items. “I didn’t know what you liked so I grabbed a few things…”
“Thanks,” She said, gratefully taking the stuff. She popped open a water bottle and took a sip.
Vaughn nodded in response. He was unsure of what to do now. Should he stay and talk? Should he leave her alone to eat? He didn’t socialize much, so he felt like an innocent, confused child when it came to that sort of thing.
“You look confused,” she told him. “Hungry?” She offered a bag of chips.
“Oh, er, no thank you,” Vaughn replied, running a hand through his dark hair. Hesitantly, he sat down on the other end of the cot.
“Okay,” she shrugged, setting it back down. “But really, how are you doing? No one feels alright every day.”
Vaughn shrugged his tense shoulders, concentrating on a point on the wall. He wasn’t big on sharing his feelings to anyone. He wanted to, but he felt like he couldn’t.
“How was your latest… rescue?” She said, wording it carefully.
Vaughn seemed to tense more. Haven knew about it? And the way she said rescue.. “Went well, he didn’t put up much of a fight.”
“Guess he knew he was a d*ck,” She said, leaning back.
