Vaughn nodded in understanding. He collected the cards back into their box and set them on one of the various metal shelves. He checked the time on his watch, then looked up at Haven. “Could we go get some fresh air?”

“Yeah sure,” she said. “Can you pass me that stick?”

Vaughn got up and picked the stick up, handing it over to Haven. “Careful not to fall..”

“Thanks,” she said, carefully pushing herself up.

Vaughn walked at a slow pace so he was able to keep an eye on her as they went outside. He inhaled deeply, then sighed. He squinted up at the sun, but there was a steady breeze to keep it cool.

Haven looked around, sighing. She smiled a little, then continued following Vaughn.

“It feels nice out..” Vaughn said, shrugging of his suit jacket. He walked around to the back of the gas station where there were a few chairs and a cooler sitting out.

“Yeah,” she said. “Kinda feels like I never go out to just enjoy being outside anymore.”

Vaughn took a seat in one of the chairs and sighed, nodding in agreement. “Yeah, there’s not much time for relaxing these days..”

She watched the sky, seeing birds fly.

…and then heard a gunshot.

Vaughn sat up straight when he heard the gunshot. “What the hell was that?” He stood up and looked around for the source.

Haven’s head snapped up, and she looked towards a town not far away. “Over there… but closer than the town. Gunshots arent that loud.”

“Should we go check it out?” Vaughn questioned, looking in the direction that she had.

“You can,” she said. “Don’t think I’m in the right condition for this.”

Vaughn nodded and helped her inside before setting out, his pistol tucked into the waistband of his pants. He began walking toward the are of where the gunshot was heard.

“Stay safe!” She called after him.
