Haven sat on the old register, watching Bella intently.
Bella thought for a moment. "I..I don't really know. All I know is that they almost always check north and east first before the south and west." she commented.
“The south is warmer, they’ll probably expect us to go there. Let’s go West.”
"Sounds good. We have two weeks before they start to look for us." Arabella smiled.
“We should stock up before then..” Vaughn said, but his mind was more concentrated on his work. Would be have the opportunity to work one more job before having to leave? Would be be able to help one more family in need of his assistance?
"Definitely." Bella agreed."What will we need?"
“Just the necessities.. food, water, clothing, other hygiene products,” Vaughn listed, glancing around the inside of the gas station.
"Ok." she was still confused, but decided to just go along with what Vaughn was doing.
“We still have plenty of time, I should really run into town and get some things..” Vaughn said. He knew it was dangerous, but he did tend to disguise himself most of the time.
"Ok. Be careful, though. That doesn't mean they won't be looking for you." She said, worried he would be caught. "Do you want me to come with you?"
Vaughn’s jaw clenched, and he glanced at Haven for a moment with a questioning look, but he hesitantly nodded. “Just in case,” he murmured.
Bella's eyes lit up. "Really? –I mean- yeah, ok."
She pursued her lips, unsure of whether he was going in for another job or to get supplies. “Stay safe,” she said.
“I will,” Vaughn said, giving a quick, faint smile before getting up and collecting his gun again.
Bella got up and reached down to make sure her knife was still secure in her boot. "Ok. Let's go." she said, straightening up.
Vaughn nodded and walked toward the door, then to his truck that was a few meters away.
Bella followed, hopping in.
Vaughn reached over and dug into the glove box, taking out a few things. The first was a contacts case. He put the contacts in, his grey eyes now a strikingly vibrant hazel color. He also grabbed a pair of black framed glasses. He looked down at himself, knowing that officials knew what he tended to wear, so he tossed his suit jacket and tie into the back seat before also unbuttoning his white long sleeve, now in a white undershirt and black pants. He quickly scruffed up his neat, black hair, making it look like a bad bedhead. “Can’t go out looking like myself completely..”
"True." Bella agreed, watching him 'transform.'
Vaughn then started the car and pulled out of the parking lot, driving into town. His hands gripped the wheel tightly in an anxious manner, unsure of how to be comfortable in the silence.
She watched them through the window for a moment, then turned around and decided to try and get a little more sleep before 6 AM.
"So, uh, where exactly are we going?" She asked, turning her head to look out of the window.
“Into the city to get a few things,” Vaughn answered in a level tone, watching the road.
Bella nodded. She sat in silence for a few minutes before asking a question that had been nagging at the back of her mind for a while. "Do you… hate me? I dunno, you seem like you don't want me around." she mumbled.
(Gotta go, will be on tomorrow..)
Vaughn’s lips tugged into a tense frown. “I don’t hate you, I don’t fully trust you either,” he responded simply, not looking at her as he said it.
