They mumbled, covering their face with their hands. "You shouldn't have to be, it isn't fair because you did nothing wrong."
They mumbled, covering their face with their hands. "You shouldn't have to be, it isn't fair because you did nothing wrong."
"I know, but it is fine. I have been like this all my life. Though one perk is I don't have to look at food."
"Something tells me you won't be missing the food here." They let out a sudden chuckle. "Do you think it is wise to bring Jordan? Something is different about him.. I don't know, maybe I'm paranoid?" They went quiet before humming softly.
"You could just be paranoid, but I understand. He seems messed up from this place."
"I can't think of what they must have done to him, although saying that, he has been caught trying to escape so many times that they wouldn't give him a light punishment." They paused for a moment. "Say… Have they ever punished you?"
"….um…. yeah, I have." Jay said slowly.
"Why? What did they do?" They sighed, shaking their head. "Sorry, that's a stupid thing to ask."
"I'm not sure what happened. I just remembered being in a chair with something over my mouth and then I passed out." Jay said. He couldn't remember much else other than that.
"I swear it's like they want to kill us off slowly." A loud chime echoed from downstairs. "What are we even supposed to do now? Its nine o'clock."
"Nine in the morning?" he asked.
"Yes?" They couldn't tell if it was a trick question or not.
"Weird." Jay said. "should we go?"
"What's weird and go where?" The hesitance in their voice made it clear they were confused. "I think my sanity is starting to slip already."
"The clock, usually it is not that loud and I have no idea." Jay said then sighed tired of it all.
"Come on now, you're too young to be sighing. We should try and do something to keep ourselves occupied." Kale reached for Jay's hand but decided against touching him and stood up. "We could go and socialise? I'm going out on a limb here."
"We could try to socialize." Jay said then stood up.
Kale simply nodded and advanced to the door, slowly creaking it open. "They can't watch all of us at the same time so there must be someone to speak to." They had a hard time masking the doubt and sadness in their voice, but they tried to stay positive for Jay's sake.
Jay nodded and followed the sound of Kale's footsteps.
Kale caught sight of a housemother making her way around the other rooms and whispered. "Keep your head low, crazy woman up ahead."
Jay nodded and looked down.
Everything was silent as the woman walked past, but Kale saw, in the corner of their eye, a grim smirk spread across her lips as she entered the next room. "Where do you suggest we go?" They muttered to Jay.
"Anywhere. Maybe somewhere that is a bit hidden." Jay suggested.
"I can do more than a bit hidden." Kale had the perfect place in mind, though it would be risky trying to get there. They reached the bottom of the stairs and, without hesitation, turned around the corner towards the storage closet. They opened the door and quickly ushered Jay inside, checking that none of the houseparents had seen them. "This is one of the only places they didn't find…" Kale whispered, sliding a wooden plank to reveal a narrow opening. "I heard it leads down to the basement, although I have never been down there myself. One of the older girls told me about it, before mysteriously disappearing."
Jordan snarls slightly to himself
"want to try to go down it?" Jay asked. "Or is it too dark for you?"
