“Of course, I’ll go make some,” Lucy said, giving Cas’ shoulder a gentle, comforting rub before she got up. She walked to the counter and began making a pot of coffee. She wished that she could help Cas feel better, but she wasn’t sure how. He seemed badly burnt, maybe some aloe would help with the pain.
She finished making the coffee and poured some of the hot drink into a mug. “Do you want anything in it?” She asked, her tone still soft so she wouldn’t wake the others.
"A lot of creamer, please," he muttered, his arms loosing the odd feather here and there as he moved. Several patches on his arms appeared to have been burned away, revealing wooden skin and dried blue-black blood. He didn't have enough energy to fully shift, but being small like this made it easier to get more of himself on the cold surface of the table
Lucy poured creamer into the coffee before mixing it with a spoon. She washed the spoon off in the sink afterwards and brought the mug back over, setting it down next to Cas. She sat down and watched him for a moment with a faint frown. “Do you want me to get you something for those burns? They look like they hurt,” she said, crossing one leg over the other.
"You can try. I don't think it'll work," he said quietly, moving to take a sip of his coffee. "Part of my curse. I can't heal myself, and no one can heal me without dark magic. And quite frankly I'd prefer that sort of magic to stay far away from me."
“I don’t think I’d be able to heal you, then, but I was thinking more along the lines of soothing a bit of the pain. I’ve had my fair share of burns, and aloe plants help to provide a cool feeling,” Lucy explained, leaning forward with her elbows against the tabletop.
"Do what you think would help," Cas said, wincing as his burnt side brushed the table
Lucy pushed up from her chair and left the room, coming back a moment later with a small tin container of aloe. She sat in a chair next to Cas, inspecting the burns that she could see. “I need you to look at me so I can put a bit of this on your face,” she said.
(If I vanish soon then I’m sorryyy)
(it's cool, I probably gotta go for a bit soon lol) Cas turned to her, moving the bandages across his eyes up to reveal that the burn on his face actually covered most of his cheek and a good portion of the space around his right eye. His eyes were totally black, and seemed somehow empty despite the presence of…something in the empty sockets
Orion sat up sleepily, and ran a paw over his face. Padding into the kitchen, he launched himself onto the table, sitting next to Cas's face. Peering at him, Orion raised a single paw, and ever so slowly, bapped Cas on the nose. After this he scurried to the end of the table.
Lucy got a bit of aloe on her finger tips and began to gently apply it to the burns on Cas’ face. Upon seeing the movement of the cat, she looked over and smiled. “Morning, Orion,” she greeted before looking back at Cas. After a moment, she had spread the cool substance across the burns on his face. “Anywhere else?”
(Idk why that was as hilariously adorable as I found it) Cas chuckled, reaching across the table to grab Orion and gently place him in his lap. He started petting Orion, smiling softly. “The biggest spot is on my side and back,” he said, pointing to his right side
“Alright,” Lucy said. She scooted her chair so she was more behind him than before and lifted the back of his shirt. She got a bit more aloe on his hand and applied it to the large burns, doing her best to be as gentle as she could manage.
Cas winced a little at Lucy's touch, leaning forward so it was easier for her to get to his side. The burn was large, and in the very worst spot towards the top of his back the skin had been totally seared away to show wood instead of muscle. The wood on his back had a different pattern, with what looked like keyholes swirled into the grain
As Lucy worked her way across the burns, she paused to look at the gaping hole in Cas’ skin. There was nothing she could do about that, there was no burnt skin to put aloe on. She was unsure if Cas wanted her to touch the textured wood, anyways. She got a bit more aloe on her hand and rubbed it onto his side now. Eventually, she let his shirt drop back down and wiped her hands off on a small cloth that was sitting in her lap. “That should at least help with the pain.”
Cas moved the bandages around his eyes back in place, reaching for his coffee. "Thank you. It does help a lot, actually," he said, sipping his coffee as he pet Orion. It was sort of odd, a human helping him heal instead of the other way around. Granted he hadn't been able to do that much for centuries, but it was still an odd change of pace
Lucy smiled softly and stood up from her seat, walking back into the living room to put the tin container away. She came back into the kitchen, going to the counter and pouring herself a mug of coffee. She didn’t put any creamer in it, it tasted better black to her. She scratched at the back of her neck, feeling for any remnants of a scar. There were none. The healing spell was stronger than her previous one. But it was in the black magic section, so it had to have a side effect, right? She tried not to let that bother her as she sat back at the table, sipping the hot drink.
“The wood on your back that’s showing, that won’t cause any major problems, will it?” She’s asked, trying to take her mind off the uneasiness she felt.
Cas shrugged. "Depends. As long as I don't have to use any of my actual magic, I should be able to avoid any…unintentional side effects," he said, sipping his coffee. There were other spots like the one on his back, but they were tiny and there weren't very many of them. "I'll just have to wait a while for them to heal, that's all."
A small frown formed on Lucy’s lips as she nodded slowly. “I do know a guy who could help at least temporarily close the holes, but his methods are.. not medically approved. He’s great with that stuff, don’t get me wrong, but he just doesn’t it in his own way. I don’t think Orion and Sam would like him, though. They’d be against the idea,” she murmured, fingers brushing though her slightly damp hair.
Cas shook his head, finishing off his coffee. "I'll be fine. Just because the ex-lover of my guardian almost killed me doesn't mean I won't survive," he said, picking at a few loose feathers on his arms
(I feel like I’m betraying Lucy, I’m starting on a photo of her hurt RIP)
Lucy gave a look of confusion, setting down her mug, elbows leaning against the table. “Ex-lover?” She questioned.
(well the best way to develop a character is to break them lol) Cas frowned, resting his head on one of his hands. "Ex-lover, yes. Samandriel is not the only guardian. He's one of trillions, actually. He just so happens to be one of the most powerful. Now, my guardian is also one of the most powerful. Or, was. Still trying to figure that out. But to make an incomprehensibly long story short, my guardian and Samandriel fell in love, fell out of love, and had a fight that nearly destroyed half the multiverse."
That must have been the woman Sam was telling her about before. “And I thought I had bad relationships,” she muttered, forcing a breathy laugh before going silent again. She took her glasses off, rubbing at her eyes for a moment as if it would wipe away the images still plastered into her mind. “I’m guessing she is just as dangerous?” She continued, wanting to slightly shift the conversation as she put her glasses back on.
"As of now, he's currently missing," Cas said quietly. He stared down into the bottom of his cup, expression changing to something unreadable. "He's been gone for several billion years. I still don't know what happened to him. But I'm sure he's not dead. At least, that's what all the signs currently point to."
Lucy nodded slowly in understanding. “Obviously not. I’ve never seen anything like all of that,” she said. She was going to take one hell of a meditation break at some point that day. That is, if she ever got another time to rest. Things seemed to be getting better, but by what Cas has been telling her, things could only slowly get worse.
