June shook her head and muttered, "I was just teasing him, yeesh." She didn't understand why they got so defensive. She crossed her arms, pouting. "Can't just have a little fun?" she mumbled.

Lucky shook his head slowly. "No, not when he's so clearly uncomfortable with the way you're teasing him." Lucas did not look like he was in on the joke, more like he felt trapped, and that was no good.
A lot of Lucky's bullies had used the same 'i was just teasing' line to cover their meanness. June certainly didn't seem like that type, but he wasn't about to just let it slide.
"We've only known you for less than 24 hours, June. Your teasing is gong to have to be a lot less personal until we all get used to each other."
(imma wait for @EtherealDreamer to respond)
Lucas looked uncomfortable and suddenly gently removed Devon's head from his lap and stood up, he then went over to the wall and sat against it.
"Yeah June, I know you're nice, but stick to the basic jokes so you avoid making people extremly uncomfortable." He told her kindly.
June sighed, "Well, that is just who I am" She stood up and moved to the couch, putting Devon's head on her lap and playing with his hair, "Besides, he is just scared of new peopleβ¦and it might take awhile for him to warm up, but he's a really nice personβ¦honestly" She hummed, "I am sorry for making you uncomfortable though, sometimes I forget that not everyone is as outgoing and weird as me."
Lucas gave the teenager a vibrant smile, showing all was well.
"It's okay, I get it, you haven't seen people in almost a week, so you forget what they're like." He told her. "Just do your best to remember, because that's what really matters."
"Yeah..well I also didn't spend much time with people regardlessβ¦Dev never liked people..or he pretends not to." She sighed, then smiled again, keeping her bright grin so no one could see past it. "what are we doing today anyway? I motion we find a supermarket or something" June gently poked Devon, trying to wake him up.
Devon grabbed June's hand to stop her from poking him. He didn't move otherwise, still half asleep.
Lucas nodded.
"I think that's a good idea," he said, smiling "It'll have more food opportunities there anyways."
"food, and I think we should get a tentβ¦so that if we need to camp out we have shelter." June hummed, still playing with her brothers hair.
Devon slowly opened his eyes, and glared up at June. "what are you doing?"
June smirked, "Wellβ¦you were sleeping on Lucas, but I made him uncomfortable and he left"
Devon paused for a moment, before getting up and quickly walking into the room he slept in, closing the door behind him. Hiding.
Liam laughed silently. "And chocolate." he stretched out his legs on the floor. "And a cow. and we need to name it."
"we have to find it first, then name it" June shook her head, "don't count your eggs before you find them"
"True, true." he nodded his head. "But we should have some names ready just in case."
"Bob. Final name, no argument" June nodded once. "convo over"
Ronni watched everything smooth out, before scooting over next to Lucas. She shook her head as the teens began arguing over their fictional cow name, before tapping Lucas's shoulder. She flashed him a thumbs up, a quizzical look on her face.
You ok?
Liam kept nodding his head. bob was a good name. "what's the last thing you lied about?" He asked the room, starting a new conversation.
In his head, Lucky was running over a list of stuff they might be able to find in a supermarket. More food, a bigger tent (he had one but it was small), maybe other ways to carry gasoline for the truck.
He was glad Lucas seemed ok, and that June had backed down, although he kinda felt bad for Devon.

Lucas looked to her and smiled, flashing her a thumbs up in return and then using his thumb and forefinger to make an O shape, showing he was okay.
Ariella watched the situation with Devon but didn't offer her own input. That was for them to figure out. She looked up at Lucky, perching her chin on his shoulder.
"I'm sure we can find a pen and paper to write down whatever you're thinking."
Devon came back out of the room, glaring at June with a slightly red face. He figured hiding would only give her something else to poke fun at, so he decided to join the others, he walked over to an empty corner with his arms crossed.
June looked at Liam, "the last thing I lied about? um nothing? I honestly don't lie. If you couldn't tell I am an open book"

Lucky nodded at her. "That would be helpful." He was still deep in thought, but the momentary break tuned him in to the conversation.
He remembered very vividly the last few lies he had told, but he didn't feel like reliving any of the awful memories that came with them in order to tell the group. Telling his aunt everything would be ok, just before his uncle got shot and she died of a broken heart. Telling the ambushers he was unarmed and then having to kill them all. Telling the next ambushers he had nothing of value, and then having to kill them too, in order to protect Sinjoro.
Nope. Not memories he wanted to share. Back to his shopping list.
Lucas looked to her and smiled, flashing her a thumbs up in return and then using his thumb and forefinger to make an O shape, showing he was okay.
Ronni smiled at him, before looking up as Devon came back out of the room. He was clearly irritated, and she felt bad for him. June would have driven her crazy as a sibling by now.
Ronni also remembered the last lie she had told, which was telling Tanya she didn't want therapy anymore. But she had no clue how to explain that to Liam to answer his question.
She looked up at Lucas, glancing at Liam, then back at Lucas, as if to say You? What's the last lie you told?
Ariella started rustling through drawers to find pen and paper for Lucky. She got lucky and found a notepad with pens in a drawer on the island. She walked back over to him and placed herself back in his arms where she had been a few moments ago. "Here you go."

Lucas' face turned stoney.
"I told my sister everything was going to be okay." He said softly "im not proud if it, but I lied to give her hope."

Lucky shifted positions so he could write. He managed to stand leaning over the counter, with his shoulder up against Ariella's. He began listing what a group their size might need.
Food, preferably canned or heavy on preservatives. They would have to supplement with fresh fruit and veggies as often as possible.
Blankets and warmer clothing. It was the heat of August now, but fall was coming.
Batteries. Lots of batteries.
Flashlights, portable heaters, lighters. A tent had been mentioned, and he wrote down several tents, since there wasn't likely to be one that would fit all of them.
He frowned as a thought crossed his mind, and he wrote down another iten.
Weapons.
Not a pleasant idea, but. There it was.
Gas containers. If theywere going to keep the truck fueled, they would need to be able to carry gas a distance from each station.
He paused. "Stuff you're thinking of?"
"Lucas, that shouldn't count as a lie, at least..not a bad oneβ¦sometimes giving hope is the best way to keep people going you know?" June hummed. "lying isn't always a bad thing, but Liam, I think this might be a personal question for some."
Devon didn't say anything to Liam's question, or the others' responses. The last time he lied? You might as well ask when the last time he didn't lie. He didn't say much, but he wasn't usually honest, with anyone, especially June. He used to be, but she never learnt when not to share.
