Averia glanced over to a small rock pool in the corner where the merman was sitting, "Guess that's him then."
Averia glanced over to a small rock pool in the corner where the merman was sitting, "Guess that's him then."
Giselle flew over. "Prince Agil? I am Princess Giselle, of the Mariposas."
The merman looked up from his spot, his brown hair waving in the slight breeze, "Princess, it is so nice to see you after all these years."
"Oh, I didn't expect you to recognise me," Giselle laughed softly.
"Of course. I always remember a pretty face," Agil smiled. Giselle didn't react - she wasn't interested.
"Listen, we need to get to the Depths of Despair."
"And we need to get there quickly." Averia added, crossing her arms.
"I would be glad to help. But you can't get there with those," Agil said, gesturing to their wings.
"Of course," Giselle replied. "But…uh…how…"
"Wait… I have to get rid of my wings? Nope, not happening." Averia shook her head.
"No, not get rid of them," Agil reassured. "You simply trade them for a tail, then when you reach the surface again they trade back."
Averia looked over her shoulder to her wings then back to the prince, "Okay… how do we get… tails?"
"It's a spell. But it can only be shared with the members of any royal family in Fairytopia."
"Of course. Great, that's just perfect isn't it." Averia groaned.
"Sorry, but it's Fairytopia lore," Agil explained. He turned and said something into Giselle's ear.
Averia's wings fluttered in irritation and she crossed her arms with a huff. How she wished she could magic him into none existence but then she'd give herself away…
Giselle whispered the spell, and she dived in the water as she and Averia were both enveloped in a bright light.
Averia dived shortly after Giselle and as the light disappeared, she looked down to see a black, shimmering tail and no wings.
Giselle was delighted to see a medium blue tail with a small butterfly wing pattern on the fins.
"I don't like this…" Averia muttered, testing out her tail.
"If something goes wrong…I don't know. But I'll change us back."
Averia nodded, "Yeah… okay…" She still felt uncomfortable with the tail and was sure it showed.
Giselle swam around a little bit. The fact that she had earned larger wings had transferred into her tail, and it was stronger than many of the other mermaids.
"If you're done having fun, we have a mission to complete." Averia said, swimming the distance between her and Giselle.
"Terribly sorry," Giselle snapped back sarcastically. She whispered a small spell and an orb appeared in front of the pair.
Averia rolled her eyes and had the urge to snap the princess neck but restrained herself, "Where too next, Princess?"
Giselle didn't answer. The orb started to move and she swam after it, faster than she knew Averia could go.
Averia swam after Giselle as quickly as she could. When she was still far behind, she muttered something under her breath and a rope of black wrapped itself round the princesses tail, stopping her until Averia caught up.
Giselle glared at Averia and cast an invisible sheet on her body. While Averia didn't know it, Giselle had covered herself in un-feelable slime in case Averia tried anything else.
Averia glared right back at Giselle before turning her attention back to the orb and went after it. She just wanted to go home already.
The orb disappeared in Averia's eyes, but to Giselle it was still there. "Why are you still here if you don't want to do this?"
Averia sighed, "I can't really say no to the princess now, can I?"
"You can, considering very few people regard me as a princess, including myself. If you didn't want to come, I would have chosen someone else too."
