Riven frowned, moving towards her. His shirt was still hanging half off, the Fae drug twinkling at his lips and down his throat, glittering on his fingers as he put a hand on her book, pulling it away. "Listen to me, you shitstain." he snarled, slamming the book back down on the table. "Get out of my library."

The moment the book was pulled from their grasp, Indigo felt a surge of fury. They stood and snatched it back. “I was reading that!” they blurted, and immediately put a hand to her mouth in surprise. Then she took a deep breath and let her hand fall to her side. Studying the prince for a moment, they finally said, “No,” and dashed away from them to move to the other side of the library.

He glared, chasing after them. "You stupid little bitch, do I need to go get your master? Zephyr will not be pleased if I tell him of this." that little if. That little glint of mercy. He wouldn't tell Zephyr, if. But who was he kidding? He would tell Zephyr. The only question was how he would spin the tale.

@Tired-but-passionate

They had hidden behind a corner, holding the book close to their chest. “Your Highness,” she said exasperatedly. “Would it kill you to leave me alone and pretend like I don’t exist like everyone else does? If you tell my master, fine. I can take another beating.”

@ElderGod-Icefire

Riven clenched his fists. "This is the royal library. You aren't permitted here except by express permission by a royal, while on a duty for your master. You have neither." he kept looking around for her, frowning. "Your presence makes it impossible for anyone else to accomplish anything in here."

@Tired-but-passionate

She squeezed her eyes shut. “It’s not like I was going to take anything or disturb the peace.” Their voice was small. “I came here with nothing, and I’ll leave with nothing, and it will be as if I was never here. Is it so wrong to want a moment without a care in the world?” They were pleading with him now, and they knew it wouldn’t work. It never did, and no one cared. Indigo wasn’t sure why she was doing it now.

@ElderGod-Icefire

He kept looking for them. "You had a moment. Now leave." he growled. He didn't have any intention, yet, of punishing them, but he wasn't pleased that she had came here without permission. This was his family's library, she didn't belong here. That was his main thought. He was high and drunk and just wanted some sex, and they were in the way of that.

Indigo let their eyes open, a small laugh leaving their lips. “Did I? How long has it been?” They said it more to herself than to the prince. Time always passed quicker in the library, sadly. She looked down at the book and skimmed through a couple of pages. Troll’s eyes could treat burns, Hickoll root could be used for insomnia, and lichen from the Grinkem tree was a general pain reliever. All could be found somewhere around the Thistlewell Estate. Indigo could remember that.
Looking around, she realized she was in the fiction section of the library, so she came out of her hiding place and, ignoring Riven, went back to the side of the library where they came from. Going back to their original hiding place, they gathered their stack of books and began putting them back into place, one by one.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Riven watched them, arms crossed as he waited for her to finish and leave. The Fae woman he had come with was sitting on the table, her lips pursed in a pout at being interupted, the strap of her chiton beginning to slip down her shoulder. Riven tapped his foot, waiting.

As they slid one of the last books into place, Indigo realized the prince and that woman may not leave. They might stay and do… whatever they were going to do. The thought sent another wave of rage and disgust over her, but there was nothing they could do about it now. There never was.
She finished putting the books back and left without another word. Olympia and Zephyr wouldn’t be pleased, but she was already resigned to whatever the consequences may be.

@ElderGod-Icefire

(Aaaahaa fuck sorry!)

By the time Indigo got back, the party was, predictably, still going. Fae swirled around in dances or conversation, drinking or taking the glittery drugs. Mouths, necks, and fingers were all smeared in the glitter of the drug, and many of their pupils were blown wide from the drugs and the drinking. Many of the prince's friend group was still hanging around each other, talking and laughing or pressing each other against the wall; none were romantically involved, exactly, but they were quite open to one night stands or friends with benefits.

@Tired-but-passionate

(You’re good!)

By now Zephyr had rejoined the group, simply talking with a few other fae. Olympia was with her own group of fae noblewomen. For a moment Indigo was relieved. This was the best they could’ve hoped for; the husband and wife in their own groups and not paying them any attention. But then Olympia’s head snapped in Indigo’s direction as she walked in, and she motioned with her finger for them to come to her, a glint of ire in her amethyst purple eyes. Indigo swallowed, and moved over to her.
Olympia was stronger than she looked, though Indigo knew that well enough. Her grip was as tight as a noose around their arm as she pulled them to the side.
“Where were you?” she growled. “Was it that godd-mn library again?”
Indigo was silent. She tried to steady their breathing, knowing sometimes it was better to let Olympia scream at them. The look on her face must’ve looked guilty enough, because their mistress’s face grew red with anger.
“You embarrassed me!” She fumed, her voice rising in both volume and pitch. “I have a reputation to maintain, and I can’t maintain it with your constant insolense! On top of it all, you enter the palace library without my or any of the royal family’s explicit permission! Do you know how bad that will make us look? How much it will soil the Thistlewell name?”
They stayed silent, though only for a moment. A question rose in Indigo’s mind. “Why didn’t you look for me?” Her voice was small, but confused.
Olympia froze, her lip curling into a snarl and revealing her sharpened canines. She drew back her hand, and before Indigo could process what she was about to do her palm already connected with their cheek, a smacking sound cracking the air. Indigo stumbled back, a hot stinging flaring up where her mistress had slapped her. A few of the partygoers had glanced in their direction, so Olympia quickly composed herself. She told hold of Indigo’s arm again, her hand like a vice, dragging her slave off to her ladies’ group.
“Because,” she said, her voice low and dangerous. “I only would’ve made myself even more of a fool. I am going to keep you in sight at all times, you are never to leave my side for as long as this party lasts.”
Indigo nodded numbly, staring at the floor and pressing a hand to her cheek, eyes stinging with tears.

The other humans in the room that were nearby cringed in sympathy with Indigo, but didn't move to help, not wanting to get in trouble with their own masters and mistresses. Dusk, Marrow, and Gaius, three of the prince's closest friends, paid no attention and merely considered talking with each other, laughing, cruel smiles tugging at their lips. The prince hadn't made friends with the kindest people, but then, whom among the fae was?

@Tired-but-passionate

Indigo went into robot mode, keeping their head low and shoving down any sign that they were affected by Olympia’s violence. She did as she was told and stayed by her mistress’s side. All they wanted was to see the library. They accomplished that, and even though she was punished, she didn’t regret it. Despite a hunger inside them making her want to go back, she had her chance. That was enough.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Most of the rest of the royal family was still there, either draped across their thrones or mingling with the crowd. Some of the king's current mistresses were in attendance; none were pregnant. Riven was the youngest child of the king this far. Many wondered if the king, already miraculously virile for producing five children, would somehow have another. He certainly had enough mistresses for it.
