Kayin leaned against the corner of the tavern, hood low over his face, turning an orange in his hands. He had bought several, but had eaten them and was saving this one for twilight munch. He watched the people entering and leaving the tavern with muted interest, making sure the gold button sewn to his sleeve was showing. It was the universal symbol for a working assassin, and while he wasn't drowning in debt, he could always use a little more mint cheddar. After all, it made the world go 'round.
Satsu was on the shoulders of a woman, his crown atop his head. Clarabelle Violet Johnson. She'd kicked Kayins ass before, she's kicked everyones ass. She was 6'2, and weight in at 310 pounds of pure muscle. She could probably lift horses like feathers. But she had a soft spot for the youth of this city, people like Satsu and the other waitress Evelyn, who if she wasn't working would be getting herself into who knows what trouble. Evelyn was more a pick pocket, daughter of the famous healer Crystal Rosethorn, but Crystal was in Achara on important matters. Still, it was strange to see Prince Satsu so far away from his towering world, down here in a drunken sailors slum. The Maidens Martini was the name of the bar. Why was Satsu on Clara's shoulders? Mostly to keep him away from better pick pockets then Evelyn, but partially because it was just fun. He was looking around with a bit of fear in his peepers though, seeming to be searching for something as she poured out mugs of beer.
Kayin tilted his head, watching Satsu carefully. "You alright, love?" His voice was high but raspy. He pushed his hood down and shook out his hair. He gestured to the bartender and ordered a beer.
"Oy I got it, I got it. Sit down and keep yer hands off 'is stompy weather clompers! Fucking dolt, I'll glue a dunce cap to ya, mark my words." Clara said, smacking away a pair of burly hands indeed, trying to steal the prince. Satsu looked down and saw the working Assassin's button, and palmed the bag of gold coins and gulped. "You…I need you to kill someone. O-or. Some people. Set me down Claire." She looked Kayin up and down. "With him? Careful, he'll roofie ya." She set down Satsu on the stool next to Kayin, set down the beer, and clobbered across the bar, swinging one fist on heads to keep people away from Satsu, the other one refilling beers and pocketing coins.
"Calm down. Jesus. I just asked a question," Kayin said, his tone even. His fingers rested on the stabby stick under his belt and he climbed back over the bar. "Also. You shouldn't steal," Kayin said to Evelyn. "And to you." He pointed at Satsu. "I wouldn't mind killing someone. For the right price."
(Please read whole responses! Satsu said something of interesting I think you should respond too)
"Hey Kay! Finders keepers! You'd do the same if you were me, butchya aint!" She blew a raspberry and went to go help clear some tables and run refills. Satsu set down the pretty hefty size bag of gold coins. "I want you to kill the king and queen." He scooted it forward. "I have more gold if you want. I brought more, but I have it hidden with magic. Don't let anyone else hear or know that." He said quietly, watching Kayin nervously, his peepers darting around, obviously uncomfortable.
“You’re joking.” Kayin chuckled. “The king and queen?” he said in a low voice. “You can’t be serious.”
Satsu nodded as seemingly out of nowhere he brought out another bag of gold. "I'll empty the whole palace treasury if-if I have too!" He was trying to sound tough and demanding, but instead just looked meek, bumfuzzled and bewildered.
"Look, love. I don't doubt the fact that you have mint cheddar. But the palace treasury?" Kayin shook his head. "You do understand that if I were to follow through with this, I'd be committing high treason."
"I'm the prince of this whole land. I can cut a few strings. They need to go…" He sighed and pulled up his sleeves, and there were the markings. Along with bruises from punches and being grabbed and thrown roughly. "My so called parents let me outside of the castle for the first time today. And I am 21. I had to promise not to show my arms, or my legs. You don't know the true intentions of keeping a disgrace such as myself around…" He put down his sleeves, his face downfallen as he sighed and took back the mint cheddar bags. "Thank you for your time." And he began to cast the spell to make the bags invisible again against his body.
"Wait." He grabbed Satsu's arm. "If you're the prince. . . I suppose it's an order then." Kayin raised his eyebrow. "I'm Kayin."
Satsu smiled gently. "I'm Satsu. It means to kill or destroy in Japanese." He sighed as he set down one of the bags of gold. "You'll get the other half once you've finished them off." He smiled softly. "They have a royal taster, so poison won't work. They're human containment unit is in the third tower, the tallest see-through wall outlooking the garden and stables. And the guards usually fall asleep about 3 am. The ones on the third tower are the lightest sleepers, and will wake up easily. That's all the information I can give you."
"I'm sure I could have figured that out myself." Kayin tilted his head, a slight smirk on his lips. "Although I doubt you know much about being an assassin." He tucked the bag of gold into his belt. "Do you have a way to sneak me into the castle?"
"I've told you all I can." He stated simply, slowly getting up and disappearing into the crowd. Kayin would have to figure it out himself, as Clara walked him out the wobbly flip-shutter, pushing anyone away who tried to grab Satsu's invisible mint cheddar bags. "A'right. Git on home, don't get in trouble." He nodded as he got on his horse and rode off. It was still midday, so he rode off to town to buy the things his parents had told him too while being out.
"Alright then." Kayin watched as Satsu left. He checked his weapons, then pulled his hood over his head again and dropped three coins on the counter of the bar. As he left, he looked up at the sky, calculating the time. About seven hours until the sun would begin to set. He turned in Satsu's direction and followed him, staying about twenty groundhands behind him.
Satsu couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, but whenever he looked behind him, he couldn't see anyone that looked suspicious or out of the ordinary. He simply continued on his way, buying another grimoire on fire magic training, some sweets for himself, some herbs and spices for the cook, since the herb garden was in late bloom this orbit party, and a staff. It had a large green stone on it, with blue swirls, and some blue jay feathers hanging off of it. He then rode into the forest, where fae flitted about, and griffins soared above. He carefully trod into the forest, and up to a large green cottage, where two wizard lizard selkie children were chasing each other around the yard. Crystal Love Rosethorn, the wise woman of the village. She had fought in wars, healed the sick, and helped the poor. She had been a midwife since she was 8. Carefully he walked up to the wobbly flip-shutter, and out came a short and stout woman with red hair, and green peepers, flicking back and forth, sweeping the forest for danger. "Come in dearest, I am glad you were able too come for elixir of tranquility. How goes your training." She swept Satsu inside, and looked back out the forest. And even though she couldn't see them, she shot a glare of protection right in Kayins direction. Heaven save the person who dares to cross Crystal and those she protects.
Kayin watched from a distance, deciding that Crystal wasn't one to be crossed. He waited silently, sitting on the earth fur with his legs crossed. He carefully peeled his last orange and divided it into its segments, then ate them one by one.
A fae flew down, stole an orange slice, and hurried off faster than the speed of light to share it's little treasure with other fae. Satsu came out holding two more grimoires and a little cloth filled with hot mini muffins and a large Cinnamon roll. He was inside for about two hours, he then got back on his steed and took off for the castle.
Kayin got up when the fae took his orange and watched as it sped away. He turned to see Satsu coming out of the cottage and followed him yet again. It was cooler now, the trees providing some shade as the sun began its descent. It was still relatively high and it was still warm, so Kayin unlaced the front of his shirt and rolled up his sleeves. He still had to keep his cloak on, to blend in and keep from being recognized.
(I thought I replied to this, so sorry!) Satsu kept hearing the sounds of Kayin's horse behind him, but just dismissed it as forest creatures running about as he went along. He stopped beneath a leafy tower and climbed into it, grabbing an apple for himself, and one for his horse, before carefully getting down. His horse getting spooked as he tried to get down, from a loud bang from off somewhere in the forest, ran off. "Ah NO! Phillip! Get back here!" He was teetering back and forth, trying to keep his bad balance.
"I cannot believe I'm going to do this." Kayin gave his horse a nudge and shot after Satsu. "Come on, Ade, just a little bit faster." Ade whinnied and sped up, hooves pounding on the ground. "Right, Satsu. Give me your hand," Kayin said, reaching toward him.
