Mir closed his eyes and leaned in, moving his head to catch Corbin’s lips with his own, their first actual kiss. He felt bad for the servant being subjected to the show, but this story had to spread, and now he was certain it would.
Corbin was mildly surprised by Mir moving to match the kiss, but he didn't protest, holding it until he decided they'd gone long enough. The servant had been blatantly staring, squeaking some and quickly hurrying off.
"You're a good kisser," Corbin said softly, watching the servant go with a blush coming to his cheeks.
Dragomir flushed and ducked his head, shy and embarrassed now that the show was over. “I- Th-thank you…” He squirmed in his seat, nervous.
Corbin shifted as well, turning to the food for a quick subject change.
"So! What do you think of it?" Corbin chuckled weakly, pulling his own plate over to nibble lightly on a piece of meat.
Mir took his own plate and took a taste before his face lit up. “Oh my gods, it’s sooo good… The meat is so tender, just-“ he ate it eagerly. Everything about the meal was amazing, he wondered how anyone could ever get used to food like this.
Corbin grinned, taking an actual bite of his food now.
"Good! I'm glad you like it." Corbin was so happy to see Mir enjoying the food like this. "It all comes from the palace's own land, too."
Dragomir perked up. “Really? So the palace has it’s own farmland?” he asked before taking another big bite of his food. He swung his legs as his chair was rather tall for him, now starting on his roast potatoes as he listened.
"Indeed. It's all inside the walls, too. This war… well, it's shaped most everything about the palace. It can completely sustain itself for four months without any outside supplies at the rate it's working now, and can be stretched out to a year if need be, during a siege." Corbin smiled, still eating small bites of his meat.
Mir smiled. “Oh it would be interesting to try and lengthen the time it can sustain itself! four months is quite a bit of time already.” He ate another bite of meat before asking, “Is there a way for me to explore the palace and the ground without someone trying to hurt me….?”
"It would be. Hopefully, of course, it will never come to that." Corbin didn't think about it much, because it would mean the rest of the city had been taken. The people lost…
"Mm… well, if you'd be comfortable with it, there are a few guards who I trust to treat you well. They wouldn't be right by your side, of course, but they would have my permission to step in if someone tries to hurt you. Then, I could also accompany you when you do so, or perhaps even the doctor."
Dragomir smiled. “Whatever you feel is right is fine by me. I just want to explore when you’re busy…” Ne then thought of something. “Hey, Corbin? Does the palace have a library?” He might be able to read books again…. His eyes sparkled at the idea. Finally being able to enjoy himself in between his duty to the king….
"Then the guards will do well." Corbin set his fork down, nodding as he finished his meal.
"Yes, the palace has a quite the extensive library! I can show you it tomorrow, we'll have the time."
Dragomir brightened at that. “I’d love that! I miss reading books ever since the libraries were shut down! Not that I had much time with all the work I had to do anyways, but still….”
"I- wait, the libraries are shut down??" Corbin was confused by this. No relief funds, now the libraries are closed? Just what was the council doing with all the money?
Mir furrowed his brow. “Yes…? We were told they were shut down and the books sold to funnel more money into winning the war. I’m…. assuming that’s not the real case, is it…?”
"No. I was… Quite adamant against the council when they suggested it." Corbin blanched just some. The same way he'd been against the introduction of slavery again. Still, that needed Corbin's signature, unlike the other. Still… He was terrified they'd find a way.
Mir got up and came close to hug the king. “I’m sorry… Well, I’m here now… I can help you make sure this stuff doesn’t happen again…” He nuzzled Corbin’s neck, hoping to soothe the poor man…
Corbin nodded some, carefully resting his head in Mir's shoulder as he returned the hug.
"Thank you…" Corbin closed his eyes, holding Mir close. It felt nice, to have someone like this…
“Maybe we can have a commoner informant come in every week to give us updates on what’s going on outside the palace walls? Monitor if the court tries to do anything funny…?” He cuddled the large man, squeezing tight.
Corbin and pretty much pulled Mir onto his lap by now, holding him close. It really was comforting.
"Yes, that definitely sounds like a good idea. We'd probably have to do it in secret, though, so they can't be bribed."
Dragomir squeaked a bit at being pulled into Corbin’s lap before he nodded. “Of course. If you want, I have a few old friends I think would be suitable for the job. They’re loyal.” He snuggled close to the king, happy that he could soothe him.
"They would be good, then. Thank you, so much." Corbin kept his face buried in Mir's shoulder, glad for the comfort, and the distraction from what they were going to do was soon as when the conversation was over.
Mir nodded. “Of course. I’m here to help you. And I promise I’ll do everything I can to help you end this war…” He was also trying to ignore the impending night. At least he’d be able to escape to his bedroom briefly to change…
"That would be amazing, thank you so much." Corbin pulled his head away now, offering a small smile.
"I… Think we should get ready for the night."
(Then: quick stall as long as we can)
(Us: FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!)
Mir nodded, swallowing nervously. “Y-yeah… I’ll uh.. Be back after I change.” He slipped off of Corbin’s lap and scurried to his rooms, and when he shut the door behind him he ran for the wardrobe, hauling open the doors, anxious and nervous that all the pajamas were going to be… well… slutty.
