Mir hesitated a bit more before beginning to eat, trying to keep his manners even as he really wanted to stuff his face, almost crying at how good it tasted and the fact he would really be for full for once. He made soft noises of pleasure as he ate hungrily, a couple tears dripping down his cheeks again, much to his dismay and embarrassment.
Corbin smiled softly as Dragomir ate, taking very little for himself. He just didn't have much of an appetite in the mornings recently. He reached out to wipe the tears away, knowing Mir was too busy eating to deal with them himself. It felt very good for him to be able to give this to the halfling…
Finally, Mir finished and sat back, smiling at Corbin through tears of happiness. “Thank you… thank you…” He finally felt satisfied and not hollow anymore. He sniffed and wiped his tears himself now, feeling slightly ashamed for crying over food of all things? When did he get so emotional…?
"You're welcome, Dragomir." Corbin smiled, finishing with the small amount of food he had been nibbling on.
"I'm glad you can have this now." The king put his hand on Mir's shoulder, quite glad Mir was so happy he was crying.
“I’m sorry, I keep crying so much, I don’t know why I’m like this.” He laughed a bit as he sniffed, scrubbing at his face. How had he become so lucky that he had ended up in such an amazing place with the actual king feeding him his food and treating him so kindly…?
Corbin offered a small chuckle, leaving his hand on Mir's shoulder.
"It's okay, Dragomir," he said softly. "As long as they're from happiness, I'm glad for them." The king laughed softly again, smiling with a hum.
Eventually, Dragomir calmed and relaxed in his chair. “Did you eat enough? You didn’t look like you ate much…” Mir asked worriedly, hoping that Corbin was feeling alright.
"Yes, I ate enough." Corbin relaxed into his own chair, humming some in content.
"I don't eat much in the mornings, don't worry."
Mir relaxed at that. He knew some people got nauseous from eating in the morning, so that made sense. “Oh, ok! Thank you for breakfast!” He leaned over and kissed Corbin’s cheek in thanks. “It was very very very good.”
"You're welcome! I'm glad it was very very very good." Corbin laughed some, a bit surprised by the kiss but not upset by it in the least.
"We'll be having a lot more food like this, though not all the time." There was still a war, after all, and Corbin much preferred the money to go elsewhere. Even if they grew their own food, he wanted it to be donated to the soldiers more than to stuff the council's bellies.
“Any food is good as long as it’s not stale or moldy. As long as it fills my stomach and doesn’t make me sick, that’s all I’ll ask for.” He smiled at the king, truly not expecting any more than the bare minimum. Because the bare minimum was more than he’d gotten in a long time. And if the king kept being so nice to him, that just made everything ok.
"Well, I can assure you the food will be better than just not making you sick and filling your stomach. It just won't be as good as what we just had all the time." Corbin smiled with a soft laugh, lightly patting Mir's shoulder.
"Come, it's almost time to go to the meeting," Corbin pointed out, standing.
Dragomir nodded and got up as well, hurriedly slipping his hand into Corbin’s and getting into what he now determined was his position when he walked with the king. “Will we go get my bracelet after the meeting?”
Corbin was quite content with this arrangement, smiling as he led Mir out of the bedroom and into the hall.
"Yes," he confirmed. He found how Mir was with him sweet, a nice change from how Corbin was usually treated.
Mir smiled. “Ok!” He padded along beside Corbin as they walked, asking, “So what does the court normally talk about during meetings about stuff in general?” He was curious. What did the court talk about that wasn’t the war?
"Usually just how the kingdom is doing, how much money is left, any complaints that might be from the people that were have time to deal with. We also use the time to address the current state of the people left here during the war effort." Corbin was leading Mir further into the center of palace, the rooms having to be lit now as there were no windows here.
Dragomir nodded as they walked, listening to the explanation. “So you don’t think I’ll have much use in this meeting?” He looked up at the artificial light, and shivered, not used to it during the daytime. He much preferred sunlight.
"Well, you can always speak up to me if there's a point you'd like to make of course," Corbin said. "The information I've been getting from the council recently has seemed… disingenuous, and I would like to know if you spoke any discrepancies." Corbin patted Mir's good arm lightly, continuing on. The palace itself really was built with war in mind, it seemed.
Mir nodded. “Okay, I’ll keep my ear out for anything that sounds off. I can probably easily detect if people are lying with my magic if I’m allowed…?” He hadn’t yet mentioned he had any magical abilities.
Corbin tilted his head, thinking a moment.
"It should be fine, unless the use of it is overly obvious." The king smiled at Mir, nodding finally. Corbin had abilities too, of course, but his were much less useful in the situation.
Mir smiled and shook his head. “Nope, you can’t notice it at all! I just read and manipulate emotions. There’s never any indication that I use my magic when I do.”
"Good, then," Corbin said. He patted Mir's hand, content.
"It would be perfectly fine, then." The king finally brought them to the council room, pulling Mir with him to sit down on his ornate chair. The king and his concubine were the first to arrive, as was tradition, so they had some time alone.
Mir looked around at the empty room. “Why did we come early?” He stared along the long table with water and small, filling snacks spread across it in case someone got thirsty or hungry during the meeting if it ran long.
"Well, the king has to be the first one on the room so I'm is the one in control when the council members come into the room." Corbin looked at Mir, sighing some.
"Ar least you're here, it usually gets boring in here before anyone else comes, which can be a few moments."
Mir smiles as he sits in Corbin’s lap. “Well then, I’ll come to as many meetings with you as I can to keep you company and make sure the council members don’t lie.” He looked pleased with this idea. “Mm, I should probably act like I’ve been loving on you when the council members come into the room. You’re fine with this still?” He wanted to always make sure Corbin consented, even if he had been told before.
