Victoria leaned her head against the cool wall of her dorm room, rubbing at her throbbing temples with a groan. Stupid Divination homework…. She was just about ready to pick of the old, shabby textbook full of superstitions and hurl it across the room, because this wasn't real Divination. They were being taught falsehoods, fairytales, when they could be learning how to actually look into the future, and it was frustrating as hell.
Zyra sighed as she flopped down on her bed face first as her bag slipped off her shoulder and landed beside her bed, she groaned in frustration as she didn't move for a while. "Stupid Arithmancy homework," She complained loudly, her voice muffled a bit since her face was buried into the pillow. After a few seconds or a minute, she rolled over and sat down on her bed. "How much homework do you have?"
Victoria looked up from her battered textbook, smiling slightly at the sight of her best friend. "Mostly divination shit…" she grumbled, snapping the book shut and crossing the room to Zyra. "What about you?"
"Most of the homework I have is easy except for Herbology, I rarely pay attention in that stupid class," Zyra answered, blowing some of her hair which had fallen into her face. "Divination is pretty easy, just copy down some shit from the textbooks or something, so I can help if you want me to."
"Hey!" Victoria protested, plopping down on her roommates bed. "I love Herbology! But I just don't see the point of Divination if we're not actually learning how to look into the future. These techniques are so old, and barely work! They're useless."
"It's a matter of opinion, Victoria. I think the class is shitty and hate it and you on the other hand love the class." Zyra said calmly, moving to the side to give her roommate more space. "Soo, it seems like you're good at Herology and i'm good at Divination, do you want to help each other?"
"Yes please," Victoria sighed, but she was smiling. "This whole tea leaf stuff? How dies it work??"
(Dies?)
"{Explanation of de leaf stuff}" Zyra quickly explained, she also had a small smile on her face. Her eyes lit up a bit as she was talking, which usually happened when she was talking about something she was passionate about or knew a lot about it."
(sorry, I was on my phone and autocorrect is my worst enemy)
Victoria bit her lip, nodding along and doing her best to follow. She could tell Zyra was an expert in the subject, she would no doubt flourish if taught the ancient, more powerful strategies. It made her happy, to see the extra glimmer in her friend's eyes, though she didn't quite know why. "Thanks, Zyra."
(Lol it's fine)
"Anytime," Zyra said happily. The shine in her eyes slowly faded away after a while as she looked around. "So, how do you do the herbology shit-or-what-ever-it's-called." She asked
Victoria couldn’t help a light laugh. “Well, that depends on what you need help with specifically.” She toyed with a strand of her hair, rocking back on the bed. “What are you working on?”
"I don't know how to explain it so let me take it out," Zyra answered as she bent over to get her bag. She took out her Herbology homework and handed it to Victoria. "This is what we're working on."
Victoria frowned down at the paper, but nodded. “I just don’t get how the whole root infusion works,” she explained, biting her lip. “Or how they photosynthesize to something as weak as starlight. Y’know?”
"I have no clue what you just said, which is why I asked you for help." Zyra said, a headache slowly starting. Why now of all times? Why can't I just go for one day without a headache from the homework. Just one day, pleasee. At least it's not that bad now but I know i'll be dying later.
Victoria cracked a small smile. “Okay, so tell me what you need help with specifically,” she prompted gently.
"Are you trying to make me feel like an idiot?" Zyra asked with s small laugh.
“Not at all!” she protested, raising her hands in surrender. “I just want to know what you need help with specifically.”
Zyra couldn't help but laugh a little. "I'm kidding. Also, I understand jack shit about the subject, like I said before."
Victoria snorted. "Right. What's your homework, exactly?"
"We're learning about Venomous Tentacula." Zyra answered.
"Okay….." she hummed in thought. "What's your homework, though? Did you get any worksheets? Do you need to write an essay?"
"We're supposed to write an essay about how and why it's venomous." She answered.
“Makes sense..” She trailed off, thinking. “Alright, see this part here?” She pointed to a diagram in the textbook, adopting an almost teacher-like expression.
