"Come on, you know you can't stay mad at me for too long," Amara teased. "After all, we've been friends for so long!" she flashed a smile at Kye. "What did you want to do when we get to the surface?"
"Come on, you know you can't stay mad at me for too long," Amara teased. "After all, we've been friends for so long!" she flashed a smile at Kye. "What did you want to do when we get to the surface?"
"Interact with the humans!" Kye said excitedly. "I know that we fight them but I know that not all humans are bad. Some are gentle and kind and want nothing to do but be themselves."
"But look at what they do with our ocean, the waters we live in? They trash it, with the things they call plastic straws, and the plastic things they drink out of… how could you even possibly start to like them?" Amara protested, slowing down slightly, her excitement waning.
"Because just like us, they need those to survive. They have more resources than us, Amara! We only don't cause pollution because what we use comes from the ocean! But they have so much more than us! And they're working on it! I've seen them trying to get better!"
"How? They've already caused us so much harm… even if they really are trying to get better, that doesn't undo the things they've done!"
"And we're just as bad! There's so many ways that we pollute the ocean that you are too oblivious to see! We're no better!" Kye sighed, rubbing her temples.
"But how?" Amara looked around at the seaweed. All she could think about was all the ways they reused various ocean materials. Sometimes shells on the seafloor were turned into jewelry.
Kye simply swam away. As they'd gotten older, many of her and Amara's conversations had ended like this. Kye had faith in the humans change and Amara didn't.
"Kye- Kye!" Amara shouted after her friend. "Wait- where are you going?" She flicked her tail, irritated. Kye couldn't just leave her hanging, could she? …could she?
"I already told you!" Kye yelled back. "I'm going to the surface!" She continued to swim, taking her armour off and using the water to take it home. She did it so often that no one was surprised to see a set of armour floating past. As she got closer to the shore and could see people, she changed into a human. Her tail turned into legs and her scales became a bikini.
Kye was still set on going to the surface, huh? Amara shook her head, sighing. But seeing as Kye was her only friend, Amara couldn't exactly just… abandon her. She sighed once more, before chasing after her friend, hiding behind a large-ish rock in the water, trying to find Kye among all the humans.
Kye didn't think she was hard to spot. She was tall, and she had long pale blue hair. She had to be extremely recognisable, or at least easy to spot in a crowd. Especially when she was taller than some of the crowd.
Once hidden, Amara couldn't figure out what to do. Did she want to chase after Kye, in human form or just watch? What worried her most was that she didn't have forever to make this decision. Soon, she would lose sight of Kye as she wandered farther and farther away from the water. Amara sighed, knowing what she had to do. She scanned the shoreline for Kye, and proceeded to swim after Kye, her tail forming into legs as she neared the beach.
Kye marveled at all of the humans. They were all so different. Different skin colours, different hair colours, different eye colours, different body types. There wasn't that many differences between all of the mermaids.
"Kye!" Amara shouted, ducking under and weaving between the humans to get closer to her friend. "Kye!" she yelled once more, hoping to get her friend's attention.
"Whoa missy!" Someone yelled at Kye, almost being walked over. It wasn't that Kye was taller than him, she was just mildly oblivious.
"Oh, sorry."
"Kye!" Amara shouted again. She sighed as she chased after her friend. What was she going to do if she couldn't catch up?
Kye exited the beach, almost burning herself on the hot road. She jumped back onto the pavement, then began to walk along it.
(hey ghost? im terribly sorry, but all of these rps that im letting build up really arent doing me any good, and seeing as im kinda in a writing block ive decided that ill need to let go of some of them, get a fresh start, yknow what i mean? and, as you might already have assumed, this one is going to be one of them)
