"I hate him!" she sobbed, stepping into Nicky's arms willingly. "I hate him I hate him I hate him!"
"I hate him!" she sobbed, stepping into Nicky's arms willingly. "I hate him I hate him I hate him!"
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "I know. It's alright, it's alright."
She was shaking terribly. "It's my fault…"
"No, no, Laura, it's not." He shook his head, tightening his grip on her protectively. "It's not your fault at all."
"Yes it is!" she cried. "I killed my mom and my sister!"
He blinked, then looked down at her. "Somehow, I really doubt that. Can you explain how you think you did?"
"I-I-I was driving," she began, but her throat closed around her words.
"Laura, that's not your fault." He said, pulling away to make her look at him.
"They were in the car!" she cried. "I was going through a green light, and we got hit. I should've died, not them! It should have been me!" Here, she broke off into plain tears.
He lifted his hands to cup her face, shaking his head. "That wasn't your fault, and you shouldn't keep telling yourself it was. Sometimes…sometimes horrible things happen. That doesn't mean it should've been you."
Her tear-filled eyes blinked. "Yes, it does."
"No, baby, it doesn't." He leaned in to press a kiss to her forehead.
Laura closed her eyes and tried not to cry again.
"The cops'll be here soon." Nicky said, gently pulling her into another hug. "They're gonna want you to give a statement or something, can you do that?"
"I-I can try," she whispered, her chest hurting a bit as Nicky's arms wrapped around her.
"Okay. Let's go find a first aid kit or something." He let go of her, smiling sadly down at her.
"I'm s-sorry, I should have t-told you…" she whispered, looking at him with round eyes.
"Don't apologize." He said softly. "It's not your fault. Although, I would have liked if you'd told me."
"I was af-fraid of what he'd d-do to me," she stammered. She took a deep breath to calm herself down. "No more secrets. I promise."
"He can't hurt you anymore, alright?" He reached up to cup her cheek, resisting the urge to pull her into yet another hug and never let go.
She met his gaze and smiled weakly. "Hopefully not."
"No, Laura. I won't let him." He said, looking fiercely intent.
"Y-You mean it?" she whispered, looking softly into his sharp gaze.
"Yes." He nodded, not breaking their eye contact. "If he so much as comes within 15 feet of you, I'll send him back to the hospital."
Laura threw her arms around his neck and buried her face in his neck. "Thank you," she cried softly.
