(So, who’s starting? Or does it matter?)
( it doesn't matter but you can go )
(Kind of went with a rocky hill surrounded by a forest for the setting)
Norkhal’rokh stumbled on a rock as he climbed the hill, nearly tripping. With an annoyed sigh, he straightened, checked his supply bag, and continued. Supposedly there was a cave near the top of the hill, and he was almost there. Hopefully, the artifact was there, preferably unguarded. Otherwise, he would throttle the guy that told him about this damned hill.
Kane walked around the well kept cave, sketching on a few maps from last night's stars. The man wasn't much of a sight for sore eyes after fighting sleep all night.
Norkhal’rokh continued walking up the hill, muttering various things, particularly regarding his brother deliberately choosing him to come out. He always did that, sending his ‘too strange’ brother out on errands that their parents would never assign to him.
He caught a glimpse of something moving above him, then nearly tripped on a rock again, loudly scattering several more rocks. Norkhal’rokh sighed once more, particularly when he noticed another tear in his tailored pants. Why was everything going wrong for him? Why did his fine traveling clothes have to get ruined like this?
Kane jumped when he heard the rocks, running out to look at who was coming "hello?" His deeper voice ehoed
Norkhal’rokh froze when he heard the voice. He glanced around warily, then hurried around the last corner to the cave itself. He sputtered when he saw the man there.
“Wh… who are you?”Norkal’rokh burst, shocked anyone could live in such a secluded place.
" Kane Dawson, and you are?" He asked, his longer hair tied back and clearly kept tied back constantly, Kane was curious on who would come up here
“Um… I… What… How…”Norkhal’rokh stammered.
He sighed, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. He then brushed a hand through his disheveled hair and looked back at Kane. He decided to just introduce himself, and slowly ask the dozens of questions buzzing through his head.
“Norkhal’rokh. I’m Norkhal’rokh. But, um, you can call me Nok. What… Why are you here, of all places?”
" I live here. I thought that would be obvious " he chuckled
“You live here? Why would anyone want to live out in this god-forsaken wilderness? Are you some kind of hermit?”Norkal’rokh asked incredulously.
"n..no, I just don't like people. The kill and harm for no reason." He said and glared at the mam
(Bringing in a little extra background, and a reference to Norkhal’rokh’s story. Just for the hell of it)
“Well, not for no reason. There’s a secret war going on. And you clearly didn’t know the right people,”Norkhal’rokh mentioned.
After a moment, he decided to sit down to properly catch his breath, not noticing Kane’s glare. He then looked down at himself, sighing at his messy appearance. He was covered in dirt, had multiple tears in his clothes, and several old scratches on his arms and legs. He shook his head, wishing he had brought different clothes with him than what he had.
"may I fix your clothing? They seem pretty torn" Kane asked, trying to get them off on a good start
“You? Fix my clothes? You…”
Norkhal’rokh cut himself off and turned away, clearing his throat. It was most certainly not a good idea to piss off the owner of the cave where the artifact was, so maybe he shouldn’t be so… forceful. After a few moments, he turned back.
“I apologize. I’m not used to… outings like this. I’m usually never the one to adventure into the wilderness, but…”he sighed irritably, shaking his head.
“Anyway. I suppose you could try fixing this outfit. Though, I’m concerned that it might be ruined,”Norkhal’rokh added.
" nothin is ruined, only aged " he said and smiled softly. " I will get you some replacement clothes while I fix your " Kane walked of for a moment coming back with food and clothing
Norkhal’rokh gave Kane an unconvinced look, but didn’t say anything. He then shrugged at the man’s next words. He couldn’t necessarily object in any case, so there wasn’t any point in complaining about what types of fashion he was into.
While he waited, Norkhal’rokh kept muttering about his brother forcing him on this mission. Norkhal’rokh wasn’t an adventurer, at all, but he was still sent to get the artifact. Why, he didn’t even know. Nor was he sure exactly what the artifact was. It was ridiculous!
He finally noticed Kane when he smelled food. Though he generally ate only fine cuisine, Norkhal’rokh hadn’t had much to eat in days and was getting desperate for something familiar. He also inspected the clothes, hoping they were, at the very least, better than rags.
Kane's usual clothes were made from silk and in a stone grey. The edging around them looked as if dipped in gold. The soup was something of an old fashioned potato soup
Norkhal’rokh grabbed the clothes and inspected them, surprised by the quality. He then inspected the soup, setting it aside for a moment as he searched for a place to change. There was no appealing spots that he knew of.
“Do you have a private place where I can change clothes? I’d prefer not climbing down this hill just to change in trees. That was a long hike as it was.”
" there is a small space in the cave " he said softly an sat to eat " and it was only 'hard' because you did not acclimate yourself"
Norkhal’rokh nodded, standing. He then paused at Kane’s comment.
“Acclimate? I don’t understand how anyone can acclimate to this wilderness. I honestly don’t.”
He shook his head, then headed inside to find the space and change. He wasn’t sure how Kane acquired silk clothes, but he appreciated that the finer fashions somehow survived even in the wild.
Norkhal’rokh came back a few minutes later, carrying his torn clothes, which were delicately folded in his hands.
Kane took the clothes and a few things he'd brought from outside and started stitching the clothes
Norkhal’rokh watched Kane take his clothes, then he sat down and started to eat. He surprised himself with his enthusiasm, as he quickly finished the bowl. He then quietly waited for Kane, unsure what to do next.
