“Goodnight, Josh,” Laura sighed before reluctantly pulling away. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Gray loved his girlfriend. A lot. It wasn’t like he was possessive. He really wasn’t—he just didn’t like seeing anyone flirt or get too friendly with her. And he certainly wouldn’t stop her from hanging out with people she wanted to.
But that day when he saw his girlfriend being bothered by a guy when he was looking for her to go out for lunch, he was furious. So he was protective. So what?
Violeta:
Violeta shrank away from the stranger, hugging her stomach. Her shoulders were hunched in a stance that seemed to scream “Leave me alone!”, her eyes averted, but… the man refused to leave her alone.
“Aw, come on..” He pouted, leaning forward. “One date with me? No?” Violeta took a stumbling step backwards, but he caught her by the shoulders and pulled her back.
Gray grabbed the guy’s shoulder and wrenched him away from Violeta, face twisted in anger.
“What do you think you’re doing?” He snarled, stepping in front of his girlfriend. “When a lady says no, she means no.”
Annoyance flickered across the young man’s features. Scowling, he pushed past Gray, and much to Violeta’s horror, slid an arm over her shoulders. “Stop poking your nose where you don’t belong,” he said smoothly, “And leave us alone.”
Violeta was frozen, held firmly in place by the set of fingers digging into her shoulder. Exhaling shakily, she reached for Gray.
That was the last straw for Gray. He grabbed the guy again, tightened his hold on him, pulled him away from Violeta and slammed him against the wall, twisting his arm for extra emphasis.
“That’s my girlfriend you’re touching,” he snarled, his voice shaking with unbalanced fury. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t snap your arm.”
Violeta’s fingers closed around his wrist. “Gray—“ Her eyes flickered uneasily to the offender, mouth flattening into a thin line. “I’m okay. He didn’t hurt me, it’s fine. Let him go.”
Gray bared his teeth, but let go of the man.
“You’re lucky she stopped me,” he hissed, his teeth clenched. “Next time, think straight before touching another woman. You might not come out so lucky again. C’mon, Vy. Let’s go before I change my mind.”
Violeta tugged him gently towards the door, trying to put as much distance as possible between them and the stranger. She shuddered unconsciously, trying to forget the sensation of his hands on her shoulders. “Thank you, Gray..”
Gray was still furious, but he tried to keep a check on his anger. Once they were at a respective distance, he stopped, looked at her and pulled her into his arms.
“Are you okay?” He murmured. “I’m sorry, Vy.”
“It’s not that big of a deal,” she assured him, pressing her forehead against his chest. Now that she was in her boyfriend’s arms, Violeta felt cleansed of the other man’s touch.
“No, it was,” Gray tightened his hold on her. “I’m supposed to protect you but I failed…”
“Gray, no,” Violeta insisted, gripping his shirt tightly. “You can’t blame yourself—and it wasn’t even that bad. Alright?”
“Does it matter?” Gray pulled away to look at her. “Whether it was bad or not… he touched you. I can’t stand that.”
Violeta reached for his hands and intertwined their fingers. “It’s still not your fault. You don’t have to blame yourself for everything.”
“Then you shouldn’t blame yourself, either,” Gray bumped their foreheads together. “I hate people like that.”
“Mm.” Violeta stood on her toes and swept a kiss across his cheek. “I can tell. Where are we going?”
“Well, I was thinking of taking you to the park, and then lunch,” Gray squeezed her hand. “But we’ll be doing whatever you want.”
Lunch… Violeta’s hand went unconsciously to her stomach, but she gave a nod and a small smile. “That sounds great.”
Gray noticed and took her hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing the back of it.
“It’s okay,” he said softly. “You can eat however much you want, okay? Even a few bites would be enough.”
A soft sigh parted her lips—one of relief. He’s so understanding….. what did I do to deserve him?
“Where are we going for lunch?” she asked after a moment, shutting her eyes.
"That's actually a really good question," Gray furrowed his eyebrows, pulling her into his side. "We could have something Mexican?"
Violeta relaxed into Gray’s side, breathing in his familiar scent. Her eyes slid open, flickering over his sunlit features——his cheekbones, his eyes, the bridge of his nose——and a smile ghosted over her lips. “Mexican sounds good.”
Gray's hand cupped her cheek, one that wasn't pressed against his side, and rubbed his thumb across it. He noticed the smile and couldn't help but smile back.
"Perfect," he hummed. "Mexican, it is then."
Violeta leaned into his hand, a soft pink seeping across her cheeks. “You’ve got very handsome features, you know,” she murmured by way of an answer, “Your eyes are my favourite. Second is your smile.”
