Gray stared at her with deep intensity, locking eyes with her. You, he wanted to say. I like you. I like you so much. Everything about you.
Instead, he shrugged.
“You tell me,” he said offhandedly. “Who do you think I like, Violeta?”
Gray stared at her with deep intensity, locking eyes with her. You, he wanted to say. I like you. I like you so much. Everything about you.
Instead, he shrugged.
“You tell me,” he said offhandedly. “Who do you think I like, Violeta?”
The sudden fire blazing in his eyes alarmed Violeta, and she flinched back, not understanding its source or why it was there. But eventually, she cleared her throat. "Laura. I think you like Laura."
Gray broke out laughing, throwing his head back. He shook his head, still laughing.
“Oh my God,” he laughed, “You really are so goddamn oblivious, aren’t you?”
A scowl twisted her features; one of annoyance. "What are you talking about?"
“I’ll give you a hint,” Gray chuckled, “She’s the type of a person to paint the world in beautiful colors. My world, if not anyone else’s. That’s the girl I like.”
(Colour the world in colour?)
Violeta blinked, the scowl melting into a thoughtful frown. “Uhh… Bella Adresti?” she guessed, referring to one of the most talented girls in her art class. “Nicola Xu?”
(Jsjsjsjsj I swear I wrote something else)
Gray quirked an eyebrow.
“Not even close,” he said softly. “This girl is special. She’s better than all of them.”
(lol)
Once again, Violeta’s expression changed, melting into one of surprise. “I never thought I’d see the day.. Are you speaking fondly about a girl?”
The smile on Gray’s face softened, the composed expression melting. He offered a shrug.
“I suppose falling for someone does that to you. Even us playboys have someone like that, you know,” he said pointedly, looking at her. “This girl is the one for me. She has no idea, though. She’s completely, utterly oblivious of me pining after her.”
Violeta was far from used to this new version of Gray. Blinking incredulously at him as if he’d just descended from space, she twisted her lips into an amused smile. “Then why don’t you tell her?”
“Because she won’t believe me,” Gray responded as if it was obvious. “If I told you I was hopelessly pining after you, would you believe me?”
Violeta stared at him for a solid thirty seconds, completely disbelieving. “Obviously not,” she said slowly, “You’re the last person who would ever like me.”
Gray gave her a humorless smile, though her words unnerved him. How wrong she was.
“Now you know why I don’t tell her,” he said. “Because she will not believe me.”
“But that’s different,” she argued, spreading her fingers. “You hate me. Our relationship has been complex for the part four years. Evidently, your relationship with this mystery girl is different.”
“I don’t hate you,” Gray countered with a roll of his eyes. “And no, my relationship with this girl is no different than mine with yours. In fact, it’s eerily similar.”
“Of course you hate me,” she scoffed, “Therefore, your relationship with her can’t be like ours. This isn’t up for discussion. Ask her out.”
“Maybe I’ll ask her out when you can guess who she is,” Gray wanted to laugh at her obliviousness, but held himself back. “I already gave you a hint.”
“It wasn’t a very good hint,” she huffed, “Considering the fact that I know nothing about your social life. Give me another one.”
This whole exchange was… unsettling. Gray hadn’t tried to mock or ‘flirt’ with me in nearly two weeks, and now? He was talking to me like a friend… like I was worth his time.. And after last night…
Gray mused to himself, trying to think of a good hint to give her. He was going to regret it. Laura was going to laugh at him.
“Her name is similar to one of my favorite colors,” Gray finally said, looking at her again. “I’m not going to tell you which color it is. That’s for you to guess on your own. Another small hint is that some people call it by one name, but others like to address it as a separate color.”
Violeta cocked her head to one side, a thoughtful expression crossing her features. After a moment, a triumphant grin split her face. “Charlotte Dardarian! See, ‘cos her name sounds like ‘chartreuse’. And everyone thinks it’s a shade of red but it’s actually green.”
Beautiful, Gray thought when saw that grin on her face. At first, he was mesmerized. Would she smile like that for him? Then he blinked and forced himself to remain neutral.
“Good guess, but no,” he said to her. “Green is my one of my favorite colors, but that’s not it.”
Violeta gave a sigh of defeat, studying his expression closely. "What about…… Scarlet Schreder?" she guessed again, "Or Violet Chen?"
“The last name you said,” Gray tilted his head just as the bell rang. He grabbed his bag and threw it over his shoulder as he stood up. “The girl I like—her name is similar to that one.”
Violeta followed his example, slipping her binders back into her bag and rising to her feet. She pondered his hint as they left the classroom, chewing on her lower lip. "Um…. Vivienne Delcroix? That's not a colour name, though.."
Gray rolled his eyes. “Now you’re way too far off,” he told her. “You just needed to add an extra letter to that name.”
