Eric smiled. "I mean, you have a point."
Eric smiled. "I mean, you have a point."
"I always do," She said, taking the milkshakes from the window and handing one to him before driving carefully into a parking space.
Eric took a sip, humming.
Lulu stuck her straw in the lid rather violently, rolling up her window and turning off the car before taking a small sip.
"Think they'll give up this chase after a while?" He asked.
"I don't know," She told him honestly, looking sincerely at him with what might have been even a little worry in her eyes. "I hate them so much."
"So do I." He said. "But they still might kill us."
"I know they will. I know that!" She almost yelled, looking down before glancing apologetically up to him again. "Sorry. I…I don't know what to do."
"Hey, hey, it's fine." He said gently. "I don't know either."
"We're hopeless, though," She said rather loudly, almost like she might yell again. "There's nothing we can do. Not without leaving something behind."
"I know, I know…" He sighed, taking another sip. "We're stuck in the middle."
Lulu huffed, wanting very much to punch something, but not sure what. "I'm done with all of this crap."
"So am I." He muttered.
"Don't you want to save Kathleen?" She asked, glancing over to him.
"I do." He said. "Just-"
"Just what?" Lulu asked, voice suddenly soft as she fixed her eyes on him. It was hopeless, and the both of them knew it. There was no getting around them, and even if they did, it would be at a cost neither wanted to pay. But for now, though-
"What if we fail? What if we all get killed?" He asked, looking down.
"I don't know. We might," She said softly, putting a somewhat comforting hand on his shoulder.
He nodded silently, leaning into the touch.
She sighed, again almost angrily but not quite. "Do you have any place we could go? Even here, they could attack at night when no one's here."
"No, I don't." He admitted. "I haven't exactly left town for a few years."
"Yeah, me neither, but…" She sighed. "We can't even go inside a 24-hour facility without leaving the car out here, and we'd probably get questioned inside about the briefcase. They kidnapped Kathleen in a public music studio in broad daylight!" She put her hands up to her face, groaning into them as she dropped her head onto Eric's shoulder, exhausted.
