Valhalla had a sudden thought and yelled it down to Addison.
"Is it OK? Does it feel like water? Does it taste like water?"
Valhalla had a sudden thought and yelled it down to Addison.
"Is it OK? Does it feel like water? Does it taste like water?"
Addison felt a bit skeptical about drinking the ‘rain’ water. But, she collected some more in her hand and stuck her tongue into it.
It tasted mainly like water, but apparently not all water tasted the same. So, she gave Valhalla a thumbs up.
Valhalla silently triumphed, though her victory was cut short. An alarm began to sound, only audible to Addison and Valhalla.
"Shit!" Valhalla yells, getting out of her mecha with the help of vines. "Shit shit shit! How did they find us?"
Addison’s heart raced. The alarm had gone off, and their guards had been down.
She felt the invisible walls quickly build themselves up inside of her, as she panicked a bit.
It was a little careless of them to not think about this possibility, the chances of them being found weren’t that high. Were they?
Valhalla sprang into action. "Go into the house," She ordered Addison, moving to a computer screen. Her fingers whizzed over the keyboard, shutting everything down and putting a tech glamour over the whole workshop.
Valhalla was so quick to react, making Addison’s heart race even faster. This wasn’t some kind of drill, and they definitely could never get caught.
She followed her instructions as fast as she could and headed back into the house. Her only hope was that this would be over quickly.
Valhalla was proficient in this. She and Scott had dealt with this a lot. She grabbed two glamour pads and fixed one to her neck, her face changing into another one along with hair. She walked out and locked the door to the workshop, then fixed the other pad to Adelaide's neck.
"They'll be less suspicious if they don't know who we are. They'll recognise me and then they'll get you. Better safe than sorry."
Addison heart only beat faster. No matter how many times this would happen, she would never get used to it.
Valhalla could probably deal with this fast enough, and shouldn’t be too much to worry over. But, there was no guarantee that they wouldn’t get caught. It had been a while, and it was definite they’d be found eventually, unless they died. Was all of this worth it? Addison didn’t want to think about that.
Valhallla turned to Addison. "Hey, hey. Calm down. It's going to be OK. Nothing will happen to us."
She then turned to the door, opening it with a smile on her face. "Gentlemen. Can I help you?"
Addison nodded. Valhalla was right, she probably didn’t need to worry about anything.
Except that there were so many what-ifs. What if they saw through it? What if they investigated further? What if they still took them?
"We're just hoping to have a look around, a routine check," One of the government men said. "Shouldn't be a problem if you've got nothing to hide, ladies."
"Nope, nothing to hide. Go ahead."
Addison kind of admired Valhalla in this situation though.
She was so calm under pressure, and she lied to easily. She was always to well-prepared too, which Addison would have envied more if she didn’t have her alter ego.
She smiled a bit and bowed to head to the men, trying to seem convincing and normal. Valhalla has done a lot, so Addison couldn’t screw it up now.
"Do you mind if we search the warehouse attached to your home? Just precautions. Person could hide a mecha or two in their easily."
"Possibly not a good idea. It hasn't been used for ages. Rotten floors, holes here and there, cobwebs everywhere. But who am I to stop you? Go ahead."
Addison felt herself get even more nervous and slip further into her thoughts. She could always depend on Valhalla, but then again, there were so many what-ifs.
She knew she shouldn’t doubt Valhalla or the tech- really anything for that matter, right now. Not even her alter ego could save her from being scared, the best she could do for now was to wait.
Valhalla waited until the government people disappeared into the warehouse. "We'll have to leave now. They wouldn't be here if they didn't have suspicions. Go collect as much as you can. Don't take the glamour off, just in case. I'll help you once they've left."
Addison nodded and ran off, not wanting to waste any time.
She wouldn’t need to worry too much, since she hadn’t really bothered taking everything out. Not that she had a lot. But when you’re on the run and have to move a lot, it’s better that way. So, for now, all Addison could hope for was that they’d have enough time to leave and that Valhalla would be alright.
Valhalla then followed the government people to the warehouse, standing in the doorway. "If you're searching for something, you won't find it. We don't store anything in here just because it's too dangerous."
Addison quickly grabbed a box from behind a shelf. The box was already half-full of the important items she owned.
She just hoped that she could save what she needed and got out of there, and try to make things easier for Valhalla. She felt bad depending on her for so much, but she wouldn’t have survived this long otherwise.
She tossed a couple of other things into the box, then opened a drawer where she had kept a little trinket. Despite it being useless, she could never leave this behind.
"Well, sorry for searching maam. We'll be on our way."
"Thank you!" Valhalla smiled, closing the door. As soon as it was closed, she rushed to the warehouse to start storing the tech in the storage pod below her mecha's cockpit.
Addison carefully tucked the trinket into the bottom of her box, then hid it under a few more things.
She quickly shut the box and rushed down the hallway, hoping that the government officials had left. She’d still try to avoid the main halls though, just in case, and get back to the workshop- to Valhalla.
"Pass it to the vines and then go get my things please!" Valhalla yelled. She was just about finished with the tech and there was still a lot of space in the storage. She loved her mecha for that.
Addison passed her box down to Valhalla’s vines and rushed off again.
Was there anything that Valhalla really needed? Her Mecha was probably the most important thing, so maybe not. So the next question was, where was her box?
Once Addison got where she needed to be, she scanned the room and chanced upon a box. She quickly got the box, re-checking that everything was in it, finding and putting in the couple of items that were removed, and rushed back to Valhalla.
Valhalla swung to the side of her mecha, having packed all tech and everything Addison gave her into the storage. "Is there anything else we really need? Stuff we can't live without?"
“I don’t think so. We’ve got everything we need, I think it’s really just our Mecha. But they’ll always come with us.” Addison answered. “I got my trinket, so unless you have something you didn’t tell me about … we should be good.”
She gave a thumbs up, and quickly went down to the workshop floor.
"If that's it, then we'll leave now. I have another safe house set up about 100 miles away. It's big enough to house our mechas and it's kinda secluded. We won't get found for a while. Do you want to get into yours?"
