“How the hell did you come up with this..team?”

“It just looked like the best choice at the time. We’re running low on options here,”

“Yes, I can quite clearly see that. One’s a defiant, ex-soldier of god knows where who makes it his goal to be as difficult as possible. Probably got kicked out of wherever he comes from. The other is a..hell, I haven’t even read their files yet.”

“I’m sure it’ll work out. We just need time.”

“If you say.”

In other words..a new roleplay!

A summary:

A team of two humans, both sent to the same, forest like planet to uncover an artifact that may or may not exist. Heck, no one even knows what it looks like. It’s all just “oh, you‘ll know it when you find it” sort of stuff. Not many are willing to go though, and as you see - they were scraping the bottom of the bucket for this one. It’s not that either of them are bad or unskilled..
It’s just their traits and personalities might prove to be a bit difficult.

This is a sci-fi based roleplay.
I’m gonna make it quick and get on with the rules.

RULES

  1. Nothing too overpowered.
  2. Cussing is allowed. Violence as well, but keep in mind - there is a time and place for it. As well as gore, but as always; I ask that you not post a paragraph of graphic gore.
  3. If you wish for romance; you will need to make your character a woman. Otherwise, any gender is fine. Romance is not a requirement in my RPs.
  4. Try to be active, I don’t want this to die in a week. I understand, though.
  5. Good grammar is appreciated, but not needed.
  6. These are subject to change, so keep that in mind.
  7. I notice some people tend to keep the brackets in my templates sometimes. Delete them, as they just serve for explanations.

    TEMPLATE

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Sexuality:
Appearance:
Personality:
Skills: (as in what do they specialize in? For example, my character can drive and pilot well. Anything counts, even stuff not to do with combat)
Backstory: (can be just brief, even one or two sentences if you really want. Stuff that could go here might be about their family, friends, relations, job, etc.)
Other: (anything extra is to go here.)

(mind if i slide in here? i'll be learning as i go, im unfamiliar with sci-fi)

Name: Lachlan Kelly
Gender: Male
Age: Just turned 21
Sexuality: Repressed gay. (So, he claims he's straight. He's not.)
Appearance: Sharp cheekbones and wildly curly hair. Of medium height and build, mostly unremarkable. Brown hair and grey eyes. Baggy cargo pants with an old-fashioned knife strapped to his thigh, and plain grey t-shirt.
Personality: Cynical, sharp-tongued, and stubborn. Also very playful most of the time. He's Australian, so when he insults you that's when you know you're friends.
Skills: Fighting (the dirty way, like how girls cat fight), playing guitar, incredibly skilled in horticulture and botany.
Backstory: Moved over from Australia to go to a boarding school for most of his high school years, graduated
Other: He carries many low-tech weapons on him, such as a knife and brass knuckles. He trusts metal more than technology, but isn't opposed to tech. Just a bit wary.

((I can work with the starter first if you want, unless you have any questions?))

Name: Axel Secada
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Axel can be best described as..well, is he prepared to go on a forest planet? Or does he want to go to a desert instead? His clothing is durable; gotta be prepared for those scrapes here and there, you know. Covers the body, but doesn’t heat him up too much. Mostly leather, made up of dark browns and blacks. He’s got a brown helmet and mask covering the lower face, but he does have a visor for whenever he needs to shield his eyes.
His eyes are more of a light brown, while he seems to have also brown (auburn?) hair, which is harder to see. You know, helmet and all.
He’s got a white scarf as well around the neck.
In terms of physical, Axel can be described as somewhat short. Shorter than what’s expected, but not extremely, either. Average weight and build. Maybe a few faint scars here and there, but nothing serious.

Personality: Axel is described as one of the most “defiant sharpshooters you’ll ever meet” while also being a pretty interesting guy to work with..if you’re able to stand him in the first place. He’s fairly tactical, more of a ‘stay back and let the others do their thing, we’ll come in later’ sort of guy, but on a smaller team (and far different mission) he’s going to need to stray out of his comfort zone, which he strongly dislikes.
Despite being extremely uncooperative, Axel remains to be a skilled guy, and as ‘judging’ as he can be, he’s that sort of person that you can speak your mind to; get something off of your chest, and he won’t say a thing. It’s a weird balance between the two, but Axel is somewhat understanding.

Skills: Sharpshooting (really does depend), driving (especially at high speeds, he sure loves his hover bikes), wood carving, judging things (which could be good or bad, you tell me)

Backstory: Claiming to be from somewhere in North America (which, with him, could have a fifty fifty chance of being true,) Axel is definitely a long way from home. And he’s going to go even further, off world. He’s no stranger to travelling, though. Axel doesn’t like or dislike it. It’s just another job to him.
Axel’s fought on a lot of different worlds, mostly the desert ones. He claims those days are probably long over, but with the things he sometimes tells of, you’d think he’s still a fighter. He doesn’t exactly like to talk about what happened in those ‘fighting days’, however - in other notes, why he got kicked out.
After those days, Axel mostly spent his time doing odd jobs here and there. When the call came for a mission he - hesitantly - accepted. And now, the present.

Other: Axel loves his plasma based weaponry. You know, the stuff that doesn’t shoot bullets. He carries a rifle with him at almost all times, which can work at multiple ranges. Uh, he’s got some small blades with him as well.

((i do have one question! were the people for this mission just picked out of civilians? because i can make lachlan into a trained explorer or w/e, but for now he's just a guy who learned how to fight and plant things.))

@Mojack group

((Generally no, they weren’t, but it is up to you on what you want to make your character into. Axel wasn’t a civilian, but that doesn’t mean civs can’t be picked for it of course.))

Deleted user

((alright! i guess that'll just be another thing axel can hold over lachlan's head lmao. is it alright if you do the starter?))

@Mojack group

The last thing Axel expected was to be asked on a mission. Considering his track record, he really thought they didn’t trust him anymore.

But looking at the files again - recovering an artifact, seriously? - perhaps they didn’t trust him with other stuff. Recovering an artifact that could possibly be fake seems like an easy job, so why not give it to some people that that nothing to do? Speaking of people, Axel’s pretty sure there’s someone else coming with him. He’s not quite sure who they are, but it’s been a while since Axel’s worked with someone else.

It’ll be interesting, that’s for sure.

Axel’s sitting around in the ship, which was on its way to the planet where the ‘artifact’ was supposed to be sitting. He knows his teammate is on this ship somewhere, but Axel’s in no hurry to find them. He’s just sure this mystery teammate will eventually show up.

He leans back, stretching out his legs across the couch he’s chosen to relax on. Axel’s kind of just..well, relaxing. And looking around the ship too. The ship is mostly..er, what one might consider ‘modern’ in design. Sort of plain. Lacking flavour. Not that many details.

Axel doesn’t mind the lack of spring to it, though. He won’t be on this ship that often, so why care?

Lachlan had been.. well, surprised, when he was asked on a mission to recover an artifact. As far as anybody knew, he was just some guy. But apparently, whatever big foundation that was sending him up into the fucking stratosphere and beyond to snag an artifact from a… what, foreign planet? They had just picked him from a lottery. Lucky, lucky him.

He stretched his arms over his head. There' some other person on this trip. He was uninformed as to who, but he figured he might go find them. They had to meet eventually, why not now? The hallway outside of his room seemed to lead somewhere. A first step.

He followed the hallway into a 'main room' of sorts, which seemed to contain furnishings of a modern-style living room. Significantly less cozy than anything anyone's ever lived in, though. And the main point, finally, was the entire person lounging on the couch, their back to Lachlan.

He cleared his throat.

Axel was considering maybe getting some last minute shuteye, just before they land. You never know when you’ll get time to sleep on a new planet. He wakes right back up though - although, Axel wasn’t sleeping in the first place - when he heard someone behind him.

Sitting up, Axel glances behind him, studying the other guy. So, this must be the mystery teammate.

Axel stands up, head slightly tilted for a few moments as if he’s confused; though it is hard to tell his emotions when you can’t see the majority of his face. He takes a few moments before speaking.

“Well, hello. I suppose you’re my teammate?” Axel asks.

Deleted user

Lachlan hesitated, but spoke after a moment.

"Well. Yeah, why else would I be on this goddamn ship?" He stood back, and put a hand on his hip. He was already suspicious of this new guy.

"What's your name?"

@Mojack group

Axel slightly tilts his head again, this time to the right - the last time, he did it to the left. He seems to take another few seconds before finally responding.

“It’s Axel. Yours?”

Deleted user

"Lachlan. Call me Lanno, though. Nobody ever actually uses my name. Why the helmet?" Lachlan launched straight into another inquiry, seemingly expecting to play a game of 20 questions with his new teammate.

He really didn't quite understand the helmet. They're inside, why the need for protection? I mean, the ship might fail, but if it does you're dead regardless of a helmet. Maybe to obscure his identity? Edgy. Must get fuckin' sweaty under there.

@Mojack group

“Alright,” he says, glancing around. The question seems to capture his attention, though, as he looks back at Lanno.

“Force of habit. Plus it’s apart of the look.” And he wasn’t kidding, when he said habit. Even back to his ‘fighting days,’ Axel kept the look. Axel wasn’t used to seeing his..well, normal self. Himself without the helmet and all that. It was a bit weird to think of. Of course, he did take it off at some point, but usually not around most others.

“Also, it provides protection for the eyes.” He flicks on the visor momentarily, then off. “I ride speeders a lot. Which can reach, like 120 mph or something? Basically, they’re fast, but there’s a lot of wind that comes with that, that I’d rather avoid.”

“But mostly force of habit.” He shrugs.

Deleted user

Lachlan looked at him for a moment, brows furrowed. "Force of habit. Right. Well alright, I guess." He moved around the couch, and sat down next to Axel with a sigh.

"Any plans going into this?"

@Mojack group

“Mm,” Axel thinks.

“I guess, once this ship lands I was going to look around a bit. Scope out what’s around us, and get ready.” He looks up at the ceiling. “Don’t even know what direction the artifact’s supposed to be, but it’s apparently on the planet for sure. So I guess we’ll need to choose a direction that looks the best.” If the artifact even exists, of course. Axel finds it a bit weird; the whole thing - then again, Axel finds a lot of things odd and they turn out to be true in the end.

He’s mostly just thinking things off the top of his head, though. He doesn’t have a long or extensive, detailed plan - just a small outline of one.

He glances at Lanno again. “So, what can you do? In terms of skills?”

Deleted user

"Botany and horticulture." Lachlan answered immediately. "I guess I can identify edible plants or something, but I'm really only familiar with the plants back home. And uh… I mean, fighting, but I'm not trained or anything. It's more catfighting-esque than anything good."

He leaned back, and fixed his gaze on the ceiling.

"What about you?"

@Mojack group

“Ah, well, I’m sure that’ll come in handy in some way.” Axel taps his fingers together. He glances to the side.

“I can drive stuff. Usually not the flying stuff, though I’ve done a little bit of piloting a few years back. I prefer the stuff on the ground, though. High speed sort of stuff.” He pauses, for about three seconds.
“I know how to shoot. Especially from long range,” Axel speaks, looking up slightly. He stares off into the distance, as if thinking of something else. “And I can carve stuff.”

Deleted user

"Convenient, huh?" Lachlan smiled vaguely. "Wonder if you'll get the chance to drive something on this planet."

@Mojack group

“Maybe. I don’t know much about this planet, though, aside from what’s on it. There’s a lot of trees and fields from what I’ve heard. And an artifact, apparently.” Axel seems to hum.

Deleted user

Lachlan huffed a brief laugh, commenting "Yeah, and hopefully the artifact's in one of the fields. Nobody debriefed me about a jungle. Maybe it'll be like Temple Run, where we grab the artifact and immediately get fucked up by some monster."

@Mojack group

“Yup - hope so too. About the fields, I mean. The fields would be preferable to trees. I’m used to working in opener areas - deserts, usually. Fields are generally open.” Axel closes his eyes for a moment.

“Have you ever been to any other planets besides Earth and the one we’re going to?” Axel asks. He’s curious, especially since he doesn’t know too much about his teammate.

Deleted user

"Nope. Don't have the money for that." Lachlan tilted his head, and then looked back from the ceiling at Axel. "I work in a plant shop for minimum wage, get an apartment for free above it. Food and shit doesn't leave much left over to travel." He paused for a moment.

"What about you? I assume you've been a few places in your lifetime."
