(Sorry about the really short response…)
"Are all humans dumbasses, or is it just you?" Elijah said, looking back to give him an annoyed look. He was clearly taking advantage of the fact that Elijah couldn't hurt him, and it annoyed the vampire. If only he hadn't made that promise Elyse… "Do you even know who we're up against?"
(It's ok!)
"Clearly I am, since I sided with a vampire," He replied, blank face as he watched Elijah give him an annoyed look. Westly simply shrugged though, adjusting his pack and following the other male through the woods. "Nope. I have no clue who we're going against. I assume they're a blood draining bastard like all of you, but that's all the further I care." He kicked a small rock that had settled by the base of a tree, watching it rustle the leaves as it rolled away. "Nothing more than that concerns me."
"And that will get you killed," Elijah shook his head, though he wasn't surprised. He'd been human once, just as foolish. He knew what human pride and ego did to their better judgments. If Westly did not want to learn, then Elijah wouldn't bother. If he wanted to die because he refused to learn the true nature of things like him, then he deserved it, and Elijah wouldn't bother risking his life defending a mere human.
But before he continued walking, Elijah twisted his head behind him and said, "Vampires do not attack for blood; we attack for the sake of war, and we attack with the same intelligence as you would. Reducing us to a pile of savages will only lead to your downfall. Isn't that why we're on the winning side of the war, and you on the losing?"
Then Elijah turned back around and continued walking, saying no more.
Westly rolled his eyes, "I'll take my chances with death." Through the years of fighting vampires, he had learned that thinking of them as any more than blood-thirsty savages gave them power. If he thought of them as some powerful being, then the worry of not being able to take them down took over. So he didn't think of them as such. It was much easier to believe them all to be the same, all able to be killed by the same means, no matter how powerful they were.
He trudged along behind Elijah, almost missing the next string of words. And gods he wish he did. A scowl crossed his face as he grabbed for his stake by reflex. "I will not argue about a war of survival with a vampire," He growled, "Elyse may care about your survival, Elijah, but if you don't shut your mouth now, you won't see her face again." Anger was abundantly clear in his tone, as well frustration, two things he had more than enough of. "The only winning side is ours. We win by doing more than laying down and letting your kind end us all."
A light smirk took over Elijah's lips, though he didn't stop walking nor did he respond. The human could say the same thing about himself. It seemed what kept them both together was their loyalty towards Elyse, and if they didn't have that, one of them would have already been dead the first five minutes.
"Lilith won't hurt Elyse," he finally broke the silence. He shouldn't have been so sure about that, but he was. He knew Lilith; she won't hurt Elyse, not until he showed his face to her. She'd keep Elyse looked after until she could use her against him where Elijah could both see and hear. "So, we will take a break to plan, and for you to recover your strength. We don't want you falling over before the real struggle begins, after all."
"You seem quite sure that Lilith won't hurt her, should I ask why you know?" He replied, frustration still brimming in his words, "And if she's so set on not hurting her, why is she there in the first place?" Westly was confused as to why he was just hearing this fact now, and he was equally as angry about that. If Elyse was in no immediate harm, besides being in a nest of vampires, then he would've had time to actually plan.
He slowed his walk down as he scowled at Elijah. As much as he wanted to get to Elyse right now, his legs burned from the constant walking, and he needed a break much more than he would say. Even stopping for a few minutes would be amazing.
Elijah released a breath and rubbed his face. Now he was asking those questions. He was sure he’d mentioned this fact before, but perhaps not.
“Because of me,” he finally responded. “Lilith wants me. She won’t hurt Elise unless I refuse to do what she wants me to do, and she knows I will do nothing for her if she hurt Elise in the slightest. I left my coven for Elise—“ not hundred percent true, but Elise was the biggest reason why left—“Lilith does not like to be insulted by one of her own.”
Still, there was a sinking feeling in his chest. What if she made him hurt Elise? He disobeyed her clear orders; she’d make him complete them even if he was in pieces.
He’d rather have a stake in his heart than hurt Elise.
"So why can't we just march up there, I hand you over, and Lilith tosses Elise to me? You'll be back with your friends, and Elise will be safe with me and the rebellion once more," Westly replied, glaring heavily at the vampire in front of him. He had no compassion or emotion tied to Elijah besides anger, and he would feel no more remorse if he had to hand over the man himself to get Elise back.
He ran a hand through his hair with a frustrated glare, wondering why he hadn't thought of the simplest idea earlier. "You won't have to deal with me, Elise will be safe, and we'll all go about our lives."
Elijah let out a laugh and shook his head, rubbing his face again. Being a vampire, he wasn’t supposed to get headaches. Being with Elise and Westley really gave him one.
“It’s not that simple,” he muttered. “Lilith is not that simple. If my returning to her would have fixed it, I would have done that right when Elise was taken. There are two ways that would go down: one, Lilith would kill you, which I don’t mind, keep Elise with her to keep me contained, and we wouldn’t accomplish anything. Two, I would have to kill Elise as punishment for my disobedience, which I’d rather not do. The best course of action is to kill Lilith, which guarantees Elise’s safety and my freedom, after which you can take her back to the rebellion.”
(Man-oh-man….Elijah…I feel you)
"And you plan to kill her…how?" Westly questioned, crossing his arms as he watched the vampire, "Let's just take a mental check of the forces we have. One crazy territorial vampire. One stubborn ass human. A set of wooden stakes and the mental willpower of the two of us combined. How do you plan on taking down Lilith? You said she's powerful, and I don't think she's enough of an idiot to be the only one we're going to have to deal with before we get to Elyse."
It didn't seem humanly possible for Elijah to piss him off anymore, but he could only assume that his next comment would make him rethink his plan to team up with a vampire. Either that, or he just had to hold out on his anger long enough to use it to kill Lilith.
