"I'd like to see you try," Victory snorted. Other villains who had said this had fallen to her quickly. It meant that they were overconfident and thought they could beat a simple girl. This Omen… he disturbed her. He was a kid. A little kid. What was his motive? What did he want?
"Don't worry," Edan reassured her with a dismissal wave of the hand. "You will. I'll get around to it. Not today, though. Today would be too early. I wanted you to get a good look at the man who will be responsible for your death." Ironic that he'd refer to himself as a man when he looks like he hasn't even hit puberty yet. He paused, biting his lip thoughtfully. "How do you feel about a public death? Maybe one broadcasted on live television. I love it when that happens. When everyone gets to see the heroes burn. It's more fun that way, in my opinion. More meaningful."
"The man? You mean you're sending one of your lackies to do the dirty work?" She snorted. "Why not kill me now? The people don't really have that much faith on me, so nothing will happen if you publicly broadcast your attempt at killing me."
"First of all, no. I'm going to kill you myself," he said hotly. "I'm still trying to decide what the most fun way to kill you would be. I've got a lot of options, you know. I could slit your jugular open and gleefully watch as you choke to death on your own blood. Or maybe I should kill you slowly. Rip you apart muscle by muscle, bone by bone, and listen to your screams of agony. Maybe I'll record them and listen to them every night to help me sleep. Or I could just rip your heart out with my bare hands and eat it." His voice rose with each sentence, until he was practically snarling the last line. He was either psychotic or bent on trying to be intimidating. "It doesn't matter how I do it, as long as I get to watch the life fade from your eyes. But today isn't a good day for it yet. It's too soon. It would be like playing a game of chess and taking out your king on the first move. Where's the fun? The chase? The game? The fight? Victory is worthless if you achieve it instantly."
She blinked. The victory is worthless. Did he know? No, he couldn't. He had a ruthless mind, she had to admit. It wasn't something she liked, at all. He was probably insane. But what on earth was she supposed to do with him? "I see. The less talented chess players do actually do that, and often. But the really talented players can play with only their king, and still manage to keep it alive, and win. Now, Omen," she said, with a faint smile, "which are you?"
"Which one do you think?" Edan rested his hands in his hoodie pockets. "I thought it was kind of obvious." He still didn't look scary. At all. He looked like he should've been in a middle school somewhere– probably dangling from a flagpole by his underwear while a bunch of bullies leered at him. But he wasn't. Instead, he was here, openly threatening the life of a hero without hesitation or fear.
"It's not, not always," Victory said, her tone amused, though her voice was muffled through her mask. "Some villains put up a show, and then they're all bark, and no bite. I'm curious, do you really mean that you, a tiny child, are going to try to kill me? Or are you joking? Because, in that case, I applaud you."
Edan scoffed. "I'm not a child," he corrected, narrowing his eyes at her. "I turned thirteen last month, thank you very much. I'm a teenager. And, besides, I'm probably more mentally developed than all of the heroes in this city combined." He paused. "And I'm not tiny, either. I'm… average height." He glared at her for a moment, frowning. "And don't worry. You'll see soon enough that my threats aren't empty. Not only do I have plenty of bite, but mine's venomous."
"Venom can be healed," Victory said, shrugging. "There are antidotes. Take one hero down, and there will be hundreds more to hunt you down. I don't see why you chose me, though." Her eyes flashed with amusement. "I don't suppose you can tell me when you're planning to kill me, so that I can say goodbye to my family?" Her voice was amused, indicating that she didn't believe him in the slightest.
"Death likes to visit us at the most inconvenient times, so I'd advise you to be prepared for it. Tell your family goodbye soon, because I don't make any promises. Maybe I'll kill you tonight. Maybe in a week. Maybe in a month. Either way, I promise I will, and I promise it'll be fun. For me, anyways. Not for you." Edan eyed her a moment. "I know you don't believe me, but I don't care. You'll believe me when I put the heads of other so called 'heroes' on stakes and leave them at random intervals in the city. When you see that happen, know it was me, and know that you're next." He paused and grinned. "And as for heroes hunting me down– let them come. I'm not scared of them. They're all fake. Fairy tales. Phonies. Frauds. Just like you."
"Thanks. I'm really feeling all warm and fuzzy right now." Victory rolled her eyes. "Are you done doing your little villain talk now, or are there some other things that you desperately need to say?" She had determined that he was all bark, no bite, nothing intimidating about him. It was just threats. He wasn't actually going to go after her.
Edan narrowed his eyes at her skeptically, before suddenly vanishing altogether, leaving only a few wisps of black smoke that dissipated into the thin air. He reappeared as immediately as he'd disappeared, standing behind her, his expression unchanging. "Desperately? No. I'm never desperate." He eyed her for a long moment. "You're boring though, I hope you know. I'll change that soon, but it's no wonder you're not all that popular with the public. I don't like any heroes, but some of them can at least pretend to be endearing. You disappoint me."
"Oh no, I'm so hurt," Victory said, not even turning to face him. His power was impressive, sure, but he was just a kid. "It's always mattered to me what villains and teenagers think of me. I'm so sorry to disappoint you, is there any way for your opinion of me to be raised?" Her senses were on high alert, but she didn't turn to face the kid. If he made a move, she would know.
Although, there was the problem of what she was to do about the two lackeys of the so-called "Omen…"
(Sorry I've neglected this. I haven't meant to! I've been dead and super inactive.)
(It's fine. I have a million and three roleplays to attend to, so… I get that. I'm also dead, so I understand your pain XD)
