She looked at the gas level and sucked in a breath. "It says it is full but…" She looked at the thermometer. "By the looks of it, I don't think it'll be able to move…" She slid out of the seat and looked at the wheels. As she had thought, the tires were frozen to the ground unnaturally, obvious gashes lined the thick rubber under the ice. "Normally, ice wouldn't stick to the tires like this… but its pretty obvious that this whole situation is far from normal."
Manon crouched, examining the tires. "It looks as though someone, or something, came along and decided to turn the wheels into a scratching post." She stood back up, looking around at the woods. "I don't think we are supposed to leave."
"Whatever did this… is from there." She glanced at the forest. "The farther we get from it, the safer we are." She sighed and adjusted her gun. "We need to walk to town, we can make the five miles. I'm certain at least something would be there." She felt doubt and fear fill her mind, but she fought the feelings off.
"We should go get ready then." She nodded back towards the house. "Travel light, with the necessities."
She sighed gently. "What would I do without you?" She started to the house as well, sneaking fearful glances at the large forest that loomed behind it.
"You would have likely had a panic attack a little while ago." Manon said, tone soft as she followed back to the house.
"Yeah… I'm glad you're here for me." She took a backpack off the rack and scanned around. "Food, extra clothes, firestarter, a tent maybe?" She shook her head. "We'd probably reach shelter before dark…" She looked at the clock only to be struck by the realization once more.
"Maybe, but we have to account for the snow slowing us down, the possibility that it might start up again, and getting lost." She pointed out.
She shook her head. "I swear I'd be dead if it wasn't for you." She looked around. "We need thermal supplies… A lot…" She sighed, exhaling, feeling exhausted.
"Do you have any flares, too? Even if no one notices them going off, they might distract or scare off any creatures in the woods." Manon suggested, cracking her knuckles.
"Woah, getting Jurrasic park in 'ere now. I probably do… maybe in the attic…" She spaced out slightly.
"First of all, they are good movies. Second, it is a decent idea. Want me to go look?"
"Not alone!" She stated. "If that thing comes for us I want us together."
She held out her hand. "Then let's go look for flares. And anything else that may be of use."
She took it, the warmth of her hand heartening to her, causing her stress to fade away. "All the supplies we're looking for should be in the attic, and it is fairly small…" She trailed off, glancing out the window, paranoid. She turned and started up the stairs with Manon following.
"So uh…." She started as she pulled down the rope that connected with the attic staircase. "How're you holding up with this all?" She questioned, turning to glance at her friend's face momentarily.
"Trying very hard not to fall apart." She answered in a rare burst of honesty, as she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
"Relatable," Erin sighed, pulling the stairs down and locking them into place so they wouldn't spring up. She stepped on the first one lightly, making sure it was stable before continuing. She looked back and signaled for her to follow.
She nodded, following Erin up the steps into the attic. She was extremely glad that she had never been claustrophobic, because the attic was indeed small.
Erin immediately rushed to the winter boxes, pulling out a winter tent. "It's still intact…" She muttered, relieved. She dug through it more, finding thermal clothes and winter fire starter packs, grinning as she shoved it in the large hiking pack. "You can go through anything… Actually…!" She trailed off, and idea igniting within her brain.
"That sounds as though you have had an idea." Manon pointed out, lips quirking into a half smile.
"I don't think we have flares but…" She smiled at the summer supplies corner. "Would fireworks do the trick?" Erin requested.
"That, is a brilliant idea." Manon made her way over to the summer supplies, digging through.
"Take anything you think we need, I don't want to come back." She went through her corner once more until she was satisfied with the supplies she was provided with.
She nodded, grabbing a few small fireworks and a water canteen. "We do not need much."
"Yeah. We need food too though. I think we have enough supplies…" Erin trailed off, stuffing the supplies in the bag tightly.
