She smiled, seeing the far-away look in his eyes.
She smiled, seeing the far-away look in his eyes.
"You know what you want?", he asked, hand over a button on the table.
"I'll just have whatever you're having," she said.
"Alright." He pushed the button on the table and another waitress came over. "What are we eating?", she asked them.
"I'll have the pulled pork sandwich with fries and a rootbeer float later.", he told the waitress. The waitress looked over at Robin.
"What he's having," she said, pointing at Isaac.
The waitress nodded and rolled away. Old music was playing on the jukebox. "That's a nice song. I think it's called Jolene."
"Hmm…" Robin hummed, listening. "I love old music," she said thoughtfully.
"I haven't heard it in a while. Not since my grandpa died." He rested his head on one hand.
"Oh, I… I'm sorry," she stammered softly. Stupid, Robin. Stupid.
"It's fine… it's fine.", he hummed softly. Never show any emotion. Logic out-rules emotion…
Robin brushed her hair behind her ear, then looked at her lap. Nice going, Robin. She bit her lip lightly.
They sat in silence for a while until their food came out. "Do you like it?", he asked softly. He didn't mean to make her upset.
"Oh, yes," she answered softly. "It's very good! I… I'm sorry if I said something that…"
"It's fine. You didn't do any harm.", he interrupted. What do I do? I just want to get close to her.
"Are you sure?" she asked, taking another small bite of the meal.
"Yeah. I'm glad that you're my friend.", he said.
Friend… She pressed her lips together and nodded. Not assistant – friend.
Not friend… more than that. "How are you doing?", he asked her.
Robin swallowed quickly. "Fine. You?"
"Fine." The word carried no meaning to him. "Any complaints you'd like to bring up?"
"No," she murmured. "Why would there be?"
"Just in case.", he said. In case I've messed up.
"In case of what?" She blushed quickly. "Sorry, that was intrusive…"
"In case I haven't been good to you. I want to be sure you're happy.", he said, his voice full of feeling for her.
She looked briefly surprised. "Oh. I'm very happy," she assured him.
