“Magic is not just illegal. It was drained. It is gone. I do not know how, only that it is, as are the magical creatures. Pegasi, Griffins, Selkies, Kelpies, Unicorns. Dragons. All of them. All gone, taking the magic with them. And yet somehow you have it. Wild, unfettered, and untaught magic. The purest and rarest form of magic. This should not be possible.”

Fio Ruen came to Westrun, the capital of Kevra, to live. His mother, afraid of what would happen if the young man remained in his small town, had sent him to live with the head physician of the king. Fio is to be his apprentice. He can use magic, but only sometimes, and on instinct alone, not through spells.

20 years ago, magic and magical creatures were eradicated by that king. King Ryemor the Dragonslayer, as he is known, was the one to do it. He declared magic illegal, saying that anyone caught doing it would be killed without a trial. Any magical creatures would be killed, and if someone was harboring a magical creature, they too will be killed.

And Fio is harboring a dangerous secret, one that not even he knows: he is the Last Dragon, the only one of his kind left in the world. He is in human form, and he doesn’t know. He meets the prince, the son of King Ryemor, and the two clash at first, fighting and arguing, and then, after Fio saves the Prince’s life, the two begin to become friends, which slowly blossoms into something more.

But, when Fio’s identity comes to light, the two will face struggles as the Prince must grapple with everything he’s been taught about dragons and magical creatures, and Fio must decide where his loyalties lie.

Aka walked through the halls of the Spade Castle, running his gloved hand along the oh-so-dusty walls leaving a white streak behind. He sighed to himself. "This place… it used to be so much cleaner. The walls, so white they were blinding. The tiles, even, and clean, looking as if even the smallest step could crack its pristine, glass-like surface. His bright smile… oh, that smile… so bright it outshone the stars themselves. Whatever happened to that beauty? Now, the walls," he pounded once on the walls, unsettling the dust, "are a disgusting, dirty grey. The floor now has cracks so large that they practically threatened to swallow you whole. And his pure smile now turned bitter by power." He stopped and stared out the window and the people. "I wonder if, just maybe, slaughtering all of those people with my bare hands could bring him satisfaction, bring back the smile of his that I miss so dearly." His voice trembled with bitterness. In his mind, he heard a faint scream, of a voice none other than his own. "Stop it! No… no please!" And then the searing of flesh as he was branded with a spade. Then a new voice. The Ace of Spades. "You know what it's like to have been in this position. You gave up this power, and this pain is the price you'll pay for it." The Ace had smiled deviously at Aka, that smile… he hated that smile with a passion burning a brighter red than his own hair. Then a voice, outside of his head, beckoned him. The messenger for King of Spades."Sir Caidrac, if you would please see yourself to the throne room, the King has called for you."
Aka smiled softly at the messenger. "But of course," he said, patting the messenger's head. "And there's no need to look so petrified, I don't bite, I promise." He chuckled softly as he headed to the throne room.

((This is probably one of my most recent roleplays. It was longer but I cut it so I would bore you to death.))

(Hey! Sorryy, I'm not super super active, I just got on :') )

Fio walked through the streets of Westrun, headed for the palace. A letter was tucked inside his pocket, an introduction to the palace physician from his mother. He took a deep breath, running a hand through his dark hair. He showed the letter to a palace guard, who guided him to Caius' quarters. Fio knocked, waiting outside the door. He waited for about five minutes without an answer before he cautiously opened up the door, peeking inside. "Hello?" he called in a low voice, eyes flickering around the room. "Caius? Are you in here?" he went in, closing the door behind himself. There was an assortment of tables around the room, and large windows to let in the light. The tables were covered in diagrams, papers, books. There wasn't even an inch of clear space, seemingly.

"Caius?" he called again, stepping cautiously forward, peering curiously at the nearest pile of stuff on a table. He looked around again, and finally spotted an older man up in a loft. "Caius?" he raised his voice a little. Perhaps he's hard of hearing?

The old man turned. "Oh! And who are you?" he asked, frowning as he came down the stairs and over to Fio.

"Fio Ruen, sir. My mother sent me?" he held out the letter to Caius, giving the old man a cautious smile.

Caius frowned again, taking the letter without reading it. "Hm. You aren't due here until Friday."

Fio's smile flickered. "Uhm. It is Friday, sir."

Caius blinked, and shrugged. "Ah, so it is. Well." he put the letter in a pocket. "You can have the room in the loft. I was just cleaning it out. Go put your things away and get down here."

Fio nodded, and did as Caius had asked, climbing the stairs and heading into a small bedroom.

Kaeya was sitting in his bedroom, twirling his hair and muttering to himself. "You're going to do amazing things, Ky, I'm certain of it…"
He shook his head. Something was off about his usual pep talk. "Maybe I won't. Maybe I don't have to. Maybe…" he sighed. "Maybe, it'll be done for me, just as everything else has." Kaeya frowned at his reflection in the mirror.

He rose from his seat, brushing the dust off of his velvet jacket. As he was about to lie back in his bed to rest a bit more (he hadn't gotten a lot of sleep the previous night), he just barely heard a soft knock on his door.

"Excuse me…" said a muffled voice from outside his door, "I have received orders to inform you that Caius, the head physician, has acquired a new apprentice. It was requested that you introduce yourself to them at the soonest possible opportunity."

The prince scoffed. As if he'd introduce himself to a physician's apprentice. Though he probably would, seeing as the request most likely came from his father who was not a man to disagree with. "Very well. Where should I find them?"

The messenger remained silent a moment before hesitantly stuttering out, "I-I didn't receive such information, sir. M-my apologies for being ill inform-"

"Leave," Kaeya said, interrupting any further apologies that were to be uttered out.

"Yes, of course, sir." Soft clicks could be heard as they left the corridor to whence they came.

Kaeya sat up and lazily combed through his concrete-colored hair. He waltzed to the door, opening it with a loud creak. "Someone really should fix that…" he said despite knowing it was made that way so that he wouldn't sneak out. Who sneaks out of the door anyway?

As he searched through the terribly bland corridors for the apprentice, he spotted a painting of him by the stairs. The painting had been done many years ago when he was just a boy. Had he really looked that lively then? Or did the artist just refuse to paint him with such a somber look on his face? Getting so absorbed in the painting, Kaeya almost didn't notice Fio walk right by him and go up the stairs.

He turned his head to look at the raven-haired boy. He hadn't seen him around the palace before, so therefore he had to be Caius's new apprentice. Hopefully. Kaeya quietly followed Fio up the staircase to the loft.

He decided it was best to say something before he was called a creep or anything of the sort, but for some reason, something just felt off about Fio's sudden apprenticeship. Mainly the fact that it was never mentioned up until this point.

Disregarding the numerous blanks in the story, Kaeya cleared his throat, gaining Fio's attention. Kaeya grabbed Fio's hand, shanking it firmly, and introduced himself in a clear, steady voice. "My name is Kaeya Aevangelina, though you can and will address me as Prince Aevangelina until otherwise instructed." His face appeared to be made of stone as he carefully studied Fio.

((Sorry if some parts of it are a bit awkward, I had to push through a tad bit of writer's block))

@ElderGod-Icefire

(it's totally fine!)

Fio jumped as his hand was grabbed, shaking it in return. "I uhm." He blinked. "R-right. Nice to meet you." He replied quickly. "I'm Fio Ruen." He gave the prince a bright smile, dropping his hands to his sides. The room was rather small, stone walled, with a window to let in light. There were clean sheets and blankets on the bed, and Fio had set his bag on it.

Caius looked up when the prince came in, but said nothing.

"Is it normal for you to introduce yourselves to everyone, Prince Aevangelina?" Fio asked, linking his hands together behind his back. His clothes were clean, for someone who had been traveling so much anyway. His shirt was a cream color, and his jacket a dark brown color. His pants were a little ragged at the bottom, mud stained, as were his boots. Nothing that couldn't be mended, of course. "And my apologies for being a little…dirty. I only just arrived."
