The ache grew and he shut his eyes, "They. are not. Important."
The ache grew and he shut his eyes, "They. are not. Important."
Paige recoiled and stared at her hands folded in her lap. "I'm sorry."
Colton sighed and but his head in his hands, "It's fine, Paige…"
She hadn't meant to push him. She wanted to apologize, but she didn't know how… Being around him was confusing, yet she wanted to figure it out.
His back was still aching and he sucked in a sharp breath, "Do you-" He cursed at himself, "Do you have any painkillers?"
Paige dug through her backpack and handed him a bottle. "Don't ask," she said quietly.
"I wasn't gonna," Colton replied, taking a few out the bottle and dry swallowing them before handing the bottle back, "Thanks."
"No problem," she replied with a small smile, putting the bottle back.
Colton sighed and leaned back on the bench, "So… what do you do for fun?"
"I write stories. I make art. I read. Photography. Anything to get my mind off of the here and now, most of the time," she answered. "You?"
Colton shrugged, "Smoke, ride… read…"
"You like to read? What genre?" she asked.
Colton swallowed and said quietly, "Romance…"
"You like… romance?" Paige asked. She could hardly believe her luck!
"N-No… maybe just a… a little." Colton flushed a little and looked away.
"I love romance!" Paige exclaimed happily.
Colton looked back with a small smile, "Favourite romance book?"
"Oh, that's too hard!" she complained. "There's so many good ones!"
"Alright then top three…" He still felt a little awkward about talking about it but he didn't mind too much.
Paige sighed. "Well, I like Romeo and Juliet… Does that count as one?"
Colton chuckled and nodded, "Yeah, it counts."
"Okay," Paige chirped. "Let's see… what else… Katniss and Peeta in the Hunger Games! But that's not really a romance book…"
Colton grimaced, "Ew, no. Hunger Games are a no go."
Paige stuck out her tongue. "Why?"
"Because I said so," He stuck his tongue out back, "And there are way better books out there."
