"We did not kiss!" Cleo snapped. "I swear it, Ren! I would never betray you like that!"
"We did not kiss!" Cleo snapped. "I swear it, Ren! I would never betray you like that!"
Ren snorts, and the memory is pulled into existence, as crisp and clear as a mountain spring. It shows Cleo and Fer'Rey: sitting under a tree. Fer'rey leans in and kisses Cleo, and the flowers that Ren was holding withered and turned to dust in her hands. The memory ends.
"Try again." she says, suddenly sounding tired.
Cleo licked her lip tryingly. "Ren, she kissed me… I didn't kiss her."
"But you accepted it." Ren murmurs, turning away.
"Don't you remember?" Cleo whispered. "I thought you were cross with me from the night before."
Ren snorts. "For that? Dear gods, woman, do you really think I'm that dumb? That was a simple disagreement; this was a betrayal of my trust in you, Cleo."
Cleo's strong features crumbled. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "I still love you, Ren. And I fear I always will. Even if you never want to see me again, I won't stop loving you, Ren!" By the time she was finished speaking, she was shouting her words as loud as she could.
Ren jumps, then turns. Am I ready to forgive her…?
Her face turns hard again. "I- I'm sorry, Cleo. But I can't. You understand."
She turns and slowly walks away, a gate opening to admit her to another, new world, leaving Cleo behind, staring after her.
(And we'll timeskip a few years at this point, lol.)
(Okay! When are we timeskipping to? Like, do you have a certain position you want Cleo to be in?)
(A few years later, after this whole thing has passed. Ren has changed her appearance quite a bit, but should still recognize Cleo. Cleo should, at this point, hate Ren. They'll be meeting up in the world Ren left Cleo in.)
(Gotcha!)
Cleo's eyes blinked awake, and she stretched out, careful not to roll off her narrow bed. She swung her legs over the side and sat up, taking in the morning light seeping through the dirty window above her. With a sigh, she rose to her feet and paced outside to breathe in the fresh morning air. There was dew on the grass and a swiftly setting fog around her.
Ren sighs as she returns back to this world. Been a long time. Hopefully I can get rid of those pesky goddamn anti-magic people.
She'd come out of a gate near what appeared to be a tiny, abandoned cottage near the mountains. Huh. I don't remember this thing being here.
She decides to go check it out, thinking she'd probably regret it. As she rounds the cottage, she sees a figure: a girl, no, a woman, framed against the sy lit with the pre-dawn grey light. She freezes. Oh, nope. No, no no. I am not doing this today.
She turns and quickly goes away, shaking her head. Where is the capital again? Oh, wait-
Her thoughts are interrupted when she sees a gleaming citadel high up in the mountains in the distance. She puts on some speed, and then, a few moments later, explosions can be heard.
Cleo turned quickly as she heard explosions. "Oh God," she whispered, darting back into her cottage and drawing her sword out from underneath her mattress.
Ren collapses a part of the citadel, and a raging fire can be seen, even from Cleo's cottage. She takes out more than half of the army stationed there, but has to leave after they start pulsing anti-magic waves out. It seems they're fine with some magic then.
She sighs, and rests at the base of the mountains. That was only a part of their army. They ahve others stationed elsewhere.
Cleo came out with her sword, holding it defensively as she headed toward the fire and explosions. She eventually stumbled across another girl who appeared to be resting on the ground.
Ren jumps up, her eyes narrowing. She hasn't used her voice in so long that it comes out quiet and raspy. "Why are you here?"
Cleo's eyes narrowed. "I've got a better question," she growled. "Who the fuck are you and what the fuck are you doing here?"
Ren draws herself up to her full height, her muscles rippling and flexing as she does so; her leather jerkin was cut off at the shoulders to reveal a pair of broad, powerful shoulders. Her voice gains more confidence when she speaks.
"So, you really don't remember me then. How cute." she snarls, whirling and striding away.
Cleo, smaller and lithe, darts around in front of the broad-shouldered girl and pointed the blade at her throat. "Answer my question," she demanded.
"Ren'nyi." Ren sneers, preparing to shove past Cleo.
"Get out of my way, or I promise you will regret it." she snarls.
Cleo's expression went slack. "R-Ren?" She shook her head and recovered, narrowing her eyes, her sword shaking as her hands trembled with rage. "What the FUCK are you doing here?" she demanded furiously.
Ren snickers. "Took you long enough, bitch."
The sword falls out of Cleo's hands with a single negligent gesture from Ren. "I'm here to put these rabid magic-haters down for good. And I'll be damned if some skinny, whiny human stops me."
Cleo visibly shook. "I'm not here to stop you." She reared back and slapped Ren viciously across the face. "You abandoned me with no warning and not even so much as a goodbye!"
Ren sneers. "Oh, really? Then move."
Ren doesn't even bother to dodge, glaring at Cleo. "Oh yeah? What the hell did you expect, exactly, after what you did, hmmm?"
"And you didn't even give me a fucking chance to explain what happened!" Cleo snapped. "You and your fucking pride just left me all alone, and I had to fend for myself for years without you."
