Ben smiled sheepishly. “Nope. I literally just finished unpacking,” he admitted. “So I’ve met you so far.” He walked next to Val, hands in his pockets.

"Well, it's an honor to be the first person you meet here. I can't say this city has especially nice people or especially asshole people. It's just like any other city in the states." Val said, unsure exactly why. He lead Ben around a corner and it got considerably quieter.

Ben smirked. “The last city I lived in was the same,” he replied. “And before that, I lived in a pretty small town. That sucked, because everyone knew everyone else and everything that you did got back to people. Bigger cities are much better.”

Deleted user

"Oh for sure. I'm not sure how long I'd be able to survive in a small town. I mean, I'm sure they're great in their own little way, but I thrive in cities. That's why the only places I've traveled to are all big cities." Val explained. He found a different overall feel of cities versus towns.

Ben nodded. “Yeah, it sucks,” he responded with a chuckle. “Like whenever I did something dumb, by the end of the week basically everyone knew about it.” He shrugged. “But no one knows me here, so I can make as many bad decisions as I want and no one will give a shit. It’s awesome!”

Deleted user

"You should include me in those bad decisions, provided I'm not busy," Val said, smiling. For a while, he had been known for doing stupid things. Not really anymore since he was one of the head warlocks in Seattle, but he can dream. "Just don't make such bad decisions that you get kicked out of school. At that level, people do give a shit, believe it or not."

@MusicElle-is-here

Ben blushed. “Actually, most of my bad decisions include my personal life,” he admitted. “I hardly ever do that kind of shit at school. Except once or twice, but that’s not important. When I said bad decisions, I meant more along the lines of awful haircuts and getting back together with an ex, not illegal stuff.” He shrugged. “I’m horrible at taking advice.”

Deleted user

"You said illegal, not me~." Val giggled a little at that. "But how bad can messed up haircuts really look on you? You're a stunning person." He smiled and looked to the side at Ben. It was about time he got a compliment in. In the back of his mind, he had been scheming a compliment.

Ben blushed again, taken off guard. “Oh, thanks,” he said, running his hand through his hair again. “But you’d be surprised. I had that ugly Justin Beiber hair in middle school, and in my freshman year of high school I thought a mohawk would be cool. Big mistake.”

Deleted user

"Didn't everyone have the Justin Beiber cut though? It couldn't have been that bad." They had arrived at the park. It was very green and full of trees. There was a large playground in the distance and a pond a bit away from it. Val kept walking to one of the biggest trees then sat down at the base of it.

Ben laughed, cringing. “You haven’t seen it, though,” he responded. “I dyed it black in seventh grade when I was going through my emo phase and it looked awful. Trust me. Did you have that god awful haircut too, or were you already classy as a middle schooler?”

Deleted user

"Oh I was this classy when I was born, don't you worry about that." Val joked, leaning his head back against the tree. "Wait, I take that back, I was this classy in the womb." He giggled and tilted his head to look at Ben.

@MusicElle-is-here

“You even looked good in your ultrasound, I’ll bet,” Ben teased. “They were so amazed at how great you looked that they promised to never ruin it with a Justin Beiber haircut or bad dye job.” He grinned.

Deleted user

"Oh I sure did. You think this is a joke, but I'm sure I was a stunning baby." Val continued. Considering who my father is… Warlocks were half-human, half-demon. That's where their magic comes from. "In your case, your hair was experimented on before you found the perfect thing, and here you are."

@MusicElle-is-here

“Perfect might be a stretch, but I’m going to take that as a compliment, so thank you,” Ben replied with a softer smile. He ran his hand through his hair again at the mention of it subconsciously. His haircut had been pretty awful up until his senior year of high school, and after that it was actually kind of decent. Ben was extra hard on himself though, so maybe it looked better than he thought.

Deleted user

"Of course it's a compliment. I don't hand out compliments willy-nilly." Val paused, smiling, "Well… maybe I do, but that's not the point." He giggled, keeping his gaze in Ben's direction. After a moment of silence, he switched subjects. "So, since we were just there, what did you think of the coffee shop? I go there almost every morning, the employees love me."

@MusicElle-is-here

“It was nice,” Ben said, thinking back to the atmosphere there. “I’m definitely going to have to go there more, especially if you go there a lot.” He blushed at that statement slightly, but kept talking anyway. “Plus, their coffee was pretty good, so there’s that too.”

Deleted user

"I like your thought process. Usually, I'm earlier and for a lot shorter of a time. You'll have to come at just the right time if you want to see me." Val said while smiling. "Normally, I only have two reasons for going there. The two being great coffee and the closeness to home. But, I am very happy to announce that a third reason has taken shape." He didn't specifically say, but he tried to make it obvious that he meant Ben.

@MusicElle-is-here

Ben smiled, still blushing. “I like the way you think,” Ben remarked, copying Val’s earlier statement. “Maybe we can run into each other
more often.” He was terrible at flirting when he tried to, so he just talked to Val without trying to force himself to flirt. He didn’t think he was doing too terribly, either.

Val giggled quietly to himself. "I sure hope we do as well. I would give you my number, but I only have a landline, dumb I know, and that probably won't be much help if you want to get ahold of me." He hadn't ran into this problem much before and now he almost felt stupid, having a landline when half the population probably didn't even know what one was.

@MusicElle-is-here

Ben smiled. “That’s fine,” he said, a little weirded out that Val didn’t have a cellphone. “I’ll just give you my cell number then. Because like most people, I have a cell phone.” He gave Val a teasing grin.

Deleted user

"I get it, my style isn't the only strange thing about me. But if you don't mind only being able to contact me when I'm at home, I can put my number in your phone." Val said, lightly flushed. He was a little embarrassed by his lack of a cell phone. The only reason he didn't have one is because his use of magic messes with the data, service, and overall running of the device, rendering the use of a phone useless.

@MusicElle-is-here

Ben shrugged, then pulled out his phone and handed it to Val. “Works for me,” he responded. “It’s kinda cool that you don’t all a cellphone. All retro and carefree. How do people from work or school or whatever reach you though? I’d be totally lost without my phone.”

Deleted user

Val typed in his home number sneaking in a heart emoji by his name. He turned off the phone and handed it back to Ben. "I like that, retro and carefree. If I ever feel bad about it I'll just remember that." He smiled, feeling better about it. "As for that, I guess it's mostly email, if that counts. They just all know I'm a little special when it comes to that."

@MusicElle-is-here

Ben nodded. “Makes sense,” he said. “Maybe the rest of us could stand to stop our phones so much too. God knows I spend way too much time on mine.”
