Vincent dismounted his horse and planted his feet in the dirt. He scanned his gaze over the other soldier, searching for any weapons that could be an immediate danger. “What are you doing here?” The edge off his lip twitched. He didn’t want to kill this soldier, but he couldn’t tell him that. It was always easier to deal with death on the battlefield.
The prince just shrugged a shoulder, trying to look as non-threatening as possible, “I needed some air. And besides, the view from the outlook is beautiful. So peaceful compared to the battlefield.” He lowered his arms slowly, placing them in his pockets, “Yourself?”
Despite considering the man nonthreatening, Vincent’s shoulder’s stiffened, “Take your hands out of your pockets.” He pressed his eyebrows together, and quickly peered over the edge of the outlook. It was quite beautiful, serene, and exactly the reason he was here as well. “And… I agree. Me too.”
Kyan raised a brow but did as he was told, placing his hands by his side. He looked out over the cliff side with a soft sign, “So peaceful. If only the rest of the world was like this at the moment, don’t you think?”
The royal took hold of his horse’s reins, just to have something to hold onto. “Aye,” he breathed tensely. He willed his muscles to ease, judging that this man wasn’t dangerous. Not now, at least. “What’s your name?”
He hesitated for a moment, knowing that if he gave his name it would reveal who he was and in the current situation, he didn’t think that was ideal, “Ky,” He eventually said, giving the shortened version of his name, “My name is Ky. Yours? I take it you’re of higher rank considering the red on your cuffs. I’ve studied enough of your side to know.”
Vincent glanced down at his cuffs, silently debating if he should give his full name or not. It was already clear he was a higher rank, and surely there were others in his country who had the same name as he. “Vincent,” he replied. “And yes, you are correct. I’m no commoner.”
Kyan raised a brow, “Should I bow or get on one knee when I’m speaking to you?” He asked, tone slightly teasing as he gave a mock bow to Vincent, “Royal?” He remembered the name, new there was a prince called Vincent. Or he could be misinformed for once in his life.
“You know too much of my side,” Vincent scoffed. “I might have to kill you now.” In its own way, without being straightforward, his retort was more of an affirmation. He considered the results of Ky telling his camp about the Vicurian prince on enemy territory, and they didn’t look too pretty.
“Ah so I’m right then, your highness,” Again, he bowed, the hint of a smirk playing on his lips as he ros and flicked his hair out his face, “What an honor it is to meet you. Well, kind of, well… please don’t kill me, I won’t say who you are, not like it’s gonna do much, anyway. Too us you’re just another solider.”
“Still, I can’t trust you.” Vincent looked over Ky’a appearance again. He brought his hand to the hilt of his sword. “One can never be too careful in the midst of war. Is your camp close to here?” He had no intention of killing this soldier, but if the threat was there maybe he had a chance of getting some answers.
Ky shifted slightly. He hadn’t brought a weapon, not expecting anyone else to be out here this late. A stupid mistake, “Kinda. But not really. Bit of a walk, get’s your heart rate going.” A vague answer, but the best he was going to give.
“How long are you planning to stay here? Maybe we can…coexist for a while.” He hoped he could take some time to figure out what he wanted to do. There was no way he could let this soldier go back to his camp, not when he knew too much.
The prince shrugged a shoulder, kicking at a rock by his feet, "Not long. Maybe a half hour. Long enough to at least have some peace away from the fighting." He knew Vincent said he wasn't going to kill him, but one could never be too sure. Hopefully if they were both going to stay here for a while then they could come to some sort of mutual agreement that this was a 'no killing zone.'
After studying Ky for a moment longer Vincent abandoned the space beside his horse to walk closer. “Me too. I like to try and get some writing done up here sometimes. It’s a wonder I’ve never encountered you here, before.” Tonight he had just planned on sitting, and maybe reviewing their travel plans on the map he had tucked away in his satchel.
Kyan nodded a little. Now that Vincent was closer, he could get a proper look at him without features being blocked. He gave him a once over before turning to the outlook, “I haven’t been coming up here for long. But everything’s been too overwhelming recently and I needed a get away.”
“You must have been coming up here on the days I didn’t,” Vincent concluded, and planted himself a few paces away from Ky. Just in case, he kept his hand on the hilt if his sword. One could never be too careful with the soldier from the enemy side, let alone a soldier who knew he was a prince. He gave Ky an interested side glance, then swiveled his chin to look him over completely. He was quite an attractive man to be a simple soldier, albeit short.
Kyan nodded a little, "Strange, isn't it? That all this violence came to be over a rumor that wasn't even true," He sighed, "Man is always looking for a fight, I suppose, even if an entire kingdom is innocent." Probably not the best time to talk politics with the enemy prince but Kyan couldn't help it. He was right, even though he knew Vincent was going to disagree.
Vincent hummed with agreement, looking out over the ledge, but the mutual understanding didn’t last for long. He arched his brow at Ky’s words, glancing back to the soldier. “If you are implying that your kingdom is innocent, I have to disagree. But, for an entire war to be waged on the basis of a silly rumor is nothing but foolish. Nonetheless I stand by my country.”
Ky stopped himself from rolling his eyes. He knew Vincent was going to disagree but it still hurt, "I figured you would even if you're wrong. Anyway, can I just ask seeing as well, you're the prince so I'm sure you'll know, what evidence do you even have against mine? The only things we've seen are falsified documents that supposedly proved we were stealing from you and other kingdoms. Again, false."
Vincent knitted his eyebrows together at that. If course his kingdom had evidence—and not only stealing from their and other kingdoms, but even eyewitness testimonies. Still, he didn’t want to disclose too much information. This was an enemy soldier after all. “I don’t want to speak specifics with you, especially now, but we have more evidence than you know.”
A muscle in Kyan’s jaw flickered but he sighed and sat down on a near by log and picked up a stick, “Of course your majesty. Anyway, I came here to get away from all the war and horrible tragedy occurring, let’s not speak of it while we’re here unless necessary.”
Vincent frowned. He didn't remember being the one to strike up the conversation about the conflicts between their countries, but he brushed it off anyhow. "Alright, fine. Fair enough," he conceded, "However, at some point it's inevitable not to talk about it. Being on opposite sides of the war and all."
Kyan inclined his head in way of agreement, "That is correct. But for now there are other things to talk about, the stars," He gestured to the sky with the stick before drawing one, "The colours of the sunrise in a morning. The sound of water running in the distance," He smiled softly, "All the things that were normal before this war."
