"As in.. As in what?" Bailey offered, "I want to help you, please let me.."
"As in.. As in what?" Bailey offered, "I want to help you, please let me.."
George set down his teacup and propped his elbows up on his knees. Burying his face in his hands, he exhaled as slowly as he could. "Only God can help me now.."
"Well that sounds dire," Bailey murmured.
George didn't answer; it was true.
Bailey stared at George's face for a long time.
Finally, George uncovered his face, took the teacup back, and dared to speak. "I'm sorry… None of this is your fault."
"I know," he spoke, "Else you'd withdraw from me. I can read people," he exhaled slowly, "Is your tea good..?"
George took a small sip and nodded. "Yes, thank you."
"Good.." Bailey murmured.
“I’m sorry… you shouldn’t have to do these things for someone like me.” George finished his tea quickly, but kept hold of the cup, still warming his faintly quivering hands.
Bailey reached out and rest his hands around George's. "I would do anything for you."
George’s panic swelled to an unbearable crescendo.
You don’t know what you’re getting into! he wanted to yell, wanted to warn Bailey away.
But he said nothing.
He brought George's hands– and the tea– to his face, and tilted them to take a sip.
George just played along, doing his best to keep the misery from his expression.
He peered up at George. "What are you hiding? In that head of yours?"

George turned his head away, unable to bear the sight of Bailey’s angelic eyes. “Many things.”
He tried to catch his gaze back, "Pick one."
George was silent for a long time. Finally, he exhaled slowly and took the biggest risk he had taken in a long time.
“I’m sinning as we speak.”
"Why– how so?" Bailey asked.
George shut his eyes so he wouldn’t have to look at Bailey’s devastatingly beautiful face.
“The way I feel. My emotions. They’re wrong.”
"What emotions?" Bailey prodded again.
George was trembling, trying and failing to contain himself. “Love,” he forced out through gritted teeth.
Bailey blinked. "Oh. Oh, ah… For… For who?"
“A man. I have feelings for a man.”
George set the teacup forcefully down and tried to stand and push past Bailey.
Bailey stood up, his face was a poor mask of shock. "Where.. Where are you going–? Did– does, shit," Bailey had a tendency to curse, on the rare occasion that the ability to speak smoothly left him.
