“That doesn’t make sense,” He murmured back, glancing at her when she turned her head to look away from him. “Are you lying to me?” He sounded hurt at the thought.

@WriteOutofTime

Nyir instantly turned her gaze back to him. "I…no, I'm not. I'm just withholding information because I don't know the whole truth. Things out of context won't help you at all."

James glared into her eyes, though he searched them desperately. “Right. Withholding information. Cus you don’t know enough. Though you somehow knew I was a hero?” He tilted his head.

@WriteOutofTime

"I don't know what to tell you," she admitted, taking another sip of her wine. "We'd only met a handful of times before your accident. There's not much I can say."

“Why would two heroes need to meet?” He blurted out in the middle of his thought process, his eyes squinted suspiciously.

@WriteOutofTime

"Heroes meet all the time," she said truthfully, breathing a silent sigh of relief that this question was easy. "Sometimes we team up, or we just run into each other on the way to the same crime scene. Our meetings were the latter."

(Imean idk. I was thinking now that he was suspicious of her she tries to make him her friend again?)

Still dressed in full hero get-up, Nyir strolled through the aisles of their local Walmart, her eyes narrowed. "What the hell is saffron?" she mumbled to herself, staring at the rows and rows of spices before her. She couldn't believe she was putting herself through this nonsense. But ever since she mentioned the hero thing, Ior, or whatever his name really was, had been distant and a bit pouty. She wanted to regain his favor, and she figured the way to do that was to humor him and buy whatever the hell he wanted for the kitchen. It was a win-win situation for her, since she'd get to eat whatever it was he made, but right now she didn't feel she was winning.

"Hey, aren't you Chaser?" A tiny girl with two pigtails stared up at her, grinning. "Can I get a picture, please?"

Nyir rolled her eyes, which were hidden behind her mask. "I'm busy, kid." The kid looked heartbroken. Damn. "Never mind, I'll do it, whatever."

As she leaned in to get into the selfie with the child, the kid whispered in her ear, "We know you have James. We're going to finish what we started."

She jerked away, her eyes widening. "What did you just say to me? Who–"

Suddenly the girl was running away. Nyir tried to follow her, but the crowd in the store made it easy for the girl to disappear. Her brows lowering, she went through the self check and hurried back to her apartment. Running through the door, she shouted, "Hey, Ior!"

(Oh man xD)

James had been lazing around all day. He had been forbidden to go outside and he was feeling really restless. He opened windows, stuck his head outside a whole lot, made a few sandwiches and watched a looot of TV. He was relaxing on the couch when she came home, sucking on some ice cream he found in the freezer while intently watching a soap-opera. He looked up when she entered, squinting at her, but catching sight of the bags. He wasn't sure if he should question it. One time he did and it was feminine stuff. He never questioned her again.

"Hey."

@WriteOutofTime

Her heart was racing. She yanked off her mask, dropping the bags and hurrying towards him, searching for any signs of injury. "Are you alright? Did anyone come here?" For the first time in a very long time she was overwhelmed with genuine concern for someone close to her. She glanced around the room, on high alert.

James watch her run around and look him over boredly. "Um… no. It's just been me the whole day." He laid back down on the couch, curling his toes up with a soft sigh. He popped some more ice cream into his mouth, sucking on the spoon and averting his attention back on the TV. General rule of thumb for him was to not question her.

@WriteOutofTime

She breathed a sigh of relief, her heart finally slowing some. She rolled her eyes at his nonchalance and headed back over to retrieve her bags. She placed them on the counter. "James," she said, slowly, mostly to herself but assuming that he'd answer to the name. It was likely his real name. She had no reason to think otherwise. He may be in danger, but at least she had some time to think.

"What?" He called back, recognizing that name as his own. The doctor had said it was his name, after all. He heard the bags moving in the kitchen and stood up to go investigate. "Did you get more ice cream? Or something to cook? I'm hungry," He complained to her, looking around in the freezer with a huffy, soft sigh.

@WriteOutofTime

(wait how did the doctor know his name? i thought he wasn't on record lol)
"I got you…stuff," she said, gesturing to the bags. "Everything you asked for. Including whatever the hell saffron is. I hope you're happy."

Deleted user

(His fingerprints?)

"Stuff? Oh, saffron. It's a spice that is used in a bunch of stuff." He picked up the red spice. "It's really good for you, and it's tasty as hell. Thanks." He rummaged around through the bags, his smile growing bigger by the moment.

@WriteOutofTime

(i thought that was a secret identity. like his fingerprints would just match Ior's, because secret identity stuff. Or else he'd probably be in prison, right?)

His smile set her even more at ease. Hopefully he'd gotten over his distrust of her. She felt a twinge of guilt at keeping stuff from him, but she kept it out of her face as she smiled slightly. "Glad you like it. If you need anything else, let me know."

Deleted user

(Oh. I just assumed that every adult has their fingerprints? Because I'm pretty sure that's law? But he wears gloves n' stuff, though, it's not like he physically kills people.)

He started to put stuff away, gasping and rambling on about the uses for things. He was getting more and more like himself by the moment, his lips pulled up in a bright smile. At the end, he squeezed her into a hug with everything he needed set out.
"Thanks!"
