Scipio nodded. "I know I haven't known you for long, but offering ways to break the law seems unlike you."
Scipio nodded. "I know I haven't known you for long, but offering ways to break the law seems unlike you."
"Trust me, it really is. Still, I'd rather break a few laws than have you being afraid. Your dad has it comming." Richard shrugged.
"I suppose so. I just… can't stop thinking about that one time…" Scipio murmured. "I know you were watching. When I was five, crying in front of the mirror because I couldn't understand why my father wouldn't love me, no matter how hard I tried… I craved attention; his attention… and I never got anything…"
Richard nodded.
"All I wanted to do was tell you I was there for you, and that I cared, but I was afraid of what Merlin might have done…"
Scipio nodded as well, hiding his face in his arms. He was conscious of Richard's mother watching him by now. "Things like that happened many times… I was too young to understand, of course. They wouldn't speak to me, so I never got an explanation. I suspect I was a mistake and they didn't want me."
Richard sighed softly. He knew this was true, no matter what he had wanted to do to change that.
"They're only mistake is underestimating you," he said.
"Damn right… maybe they'd have actually paid attention to me if they knew I'd become a trained killer."
Richard chuckled.
"I think so to."
Scipio was silent for a while. "Was it something I did…?" He asked, more to himself than to anyone else. "I don't remember being a bad kid when it started…"
With that, Richard's mother stood and slowly walked over.
"None of it was your fault," She said. Richard nodded in agreement.
"I only started acting up because I wanted attention…" Scipio whispered. "Then he started hurting me…"
By now, Richard's mother was sitting down next tothe two boys.
"He didn't know what else to do," Richard said.
"I dunno…" Scipio ran his fingers through his hair anxiously. "I just wanted him to care for once in his life."
"I'm sure he did, somewhere it the pits of his soul." Richard was trying his best, but he knew he couldn't fix years of trauma with a few pretty words.
Scipio scoffed. "Ha… what soul? That man was just as bad as me, honestly."
"Nah, I say he's worse." Richard shrugged.
"Stupid fuckin' bastard bane of my pointless existence…" Scipio muttered bitterly to himself, huffing.
Richard sighed saddly, patting Scipio's knee.
"Your existance is not pointless. Everone has a purpose."
"Mine sure seems to be. What have I done that's at all productive? I just killed a bunch of people, legally, and now I'm stuck in a fucking mirror."
"Maybe there's a reason you're here; maybe you're just what this world needs right now." Richard had always hated how Scipio felt like this; this was his chance to try to give his opinion.
"W-Why would the world need me?" Scipio asked, his voice breaking. As much as he hated his emotions and how much he tried to repress them, they were threatening to crush him now.
Richard didn't respond immediently.
"Things… things have been getting worse here for years. More and more monsters are appearing, and it's getting harder to hold them back. you could help us…"
"But Merlin doesn't want me here…" Scipio mumbled, his hands shaking. He really just wanted to break something.
"He's just afraid you'll kill a reflection." Richard noticed Scipio's hands finally.
"Do you want to go back to my place?" He said quietly.
"That… might be best, unless you want me to destroy your parents' house." Scipio clenched his hands into fists to stop their shaking.
