Ariel studied Danny for a minute before facepalming. "You loveable idiot, Danny. I don't know what you're thinking of but that was a joke. No maths project," she told him with a mild smirk.

Danny's face blanks and he goes rock still before loosening up.
"That must've been from last year." He sighs.
Danny is very gullible. You could even go as far as to say he's dumb.
They finally reach the English room and Danny waves enthusiastically at the very tired and bored teacher, Mr Levi, before taking his seat.

Shaking her head, Ariel takes her seat own seat a couple rows behind Danny.
Mr. Levi nodded in Danny's direction before standing up, and the students sat down. Already bored, Ariel decided to jump from mind to mind again and discover her classmates' secrets.

Danny also grew bored quickly and went back to the incident that happened earlier when he didn't even need to ask about English homework.
I wonder if mind-readers are real… Danny daydreams. His mind spins off into a series of "what-ifs" about mind-readers and mind-readees.

Ariel immediately recognizes Danny’s voice in her mind. She uneasily shuffles in her seat. Was he on to her?

Danny’s fantasy spins and spins until he lands on the question, Is someone in this class a mind reader? Are they listening to me right now? He jokes to himself.

Her breath caught. no no no no no no please, don’t.

Danny puts his head down and covers his face to hide his expression.
Helloooo? Are you there? Cough if you can hear me!
He barely stifles his laughter and smiles through his arm.

What do I do? Ariel anxiously tapped her foot on the floor, and in her distress she couldn’t manage to tune out anyone around her and she was hearing everyone’s thoughts. This happened sometimes, but right now she felt like she was on the verge of tears.

Danny had no clue that his silly antics were affecting Ariel in such a way, and as a last attempt before he lost control and started laughing his head off, he starts screaming in his head, IM OFF THE DEEP END!! WATCH AS I DIVE IN!! ILL NEVER MEET THE GROUND!!

In an already nervous state, Ariel was caught by surprise and let out a yelp. Everyone turned to look at her. Oh no.

Danny perks up, all thought of laughter gone, and looks Ariel straight in the eyes.
No way… You're not… You can't be… Are you? He thinks towards her.
Then he does start laughing.
No… no way!

She apologised to the class, and could feel Danny staring at her. Don’t look over. Don’t look over.

Danny is racked by laughter until the teacher tells him to calm down and answer a question (which he miraculously gets right).
All the while he’s thinking, Thats just too funny! She can’t be, right? Can you hear me right now, Ariel?

Don’t. Look. Over.
But, not being able to resist, she nods. Why was he laughing though? What part of this horrible situation was funny?

Danny sees Ariel nod out of the corner of his eye and freezes. He turns to her fully and gives her a questioning look.
No. Way. He thinks.
If you are that’s way too cool. Like, this better be real.

Ariel couldn’t help herself, and pulled a face. Then the bell rang.
Ariel leapt out of her seat and stuffed her books away, standing in front of Danny’s desk not even a minute later.

Danny gasps and laughs as soon as the bell rings. The teacher watches helplessly as the students all jump up without waiting for the teacher to dismiss them and simply turns to erase the whiteboard for the next class.
"Ariel. I'm your best friend. If you were a mind-reader, you'd tell me, right?" Danny starts.

"Um…" Didn't he already know? "Yes, I guess I would," she ventured sheepishly, wringing her hands together.
