"Ah… n-not exactly." Lucas laughed weakly and flushed, looking a bit sheepish and embarrassed. "I don't think I've ever used one before. Normally I do my hair but I didn't have time this morning…" He watched her stand, blinking in confusion.

Melissa snickered, walking to the recycle bin to toss the plastic water bottle. Coming back, she came up to his side with a hand held out in front of her. "I get that. Here," She hummed, waiting for him to put the pin in her hand expectantly. "Let me."

@Fraust

"Right…" Lucas took the pin from where it was haphazardly stuck in his hair and handed it over to Melissa so she could help him with it. "Maybe if it looks alright I'll have to figure out how to do it in case I don't have time to do my hair again." He laughed softly.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"I don't think it looks bad how it is right now, personally." She hummed, brushing his hair back out of his face. Stretching the pin, she found a spot to get his fluff out of his face. "I can tell it's bothering you though- so you may just want to keep that. If you need help, I'm your girl." She chirped, stepping back to walk around to her seat.

@Fraust

"Mm… thanks, Mel." Lucas gently patted his hair where it was pinned down to ensure it was secure, although he didn't doubt Melissa's skill in pinning hair. "I think lunch is almost over, so we'll have to head to class." He hummed thoughtfully. "And I've got practice after school… probably nothing too intensive, though."

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Melissa let out a soft sigh, checking her phone before nodding. "Yeah, you're right… guess we should start heading that way then now, huh?" She hummed, offering him a hand from where she stood. "I gotta go get books from my locker, and I'm assuming you need to do the same?"

@Fraust

"Yeah, I guess so." Lucas yawned and accepted Melissa's help to stand, lingering a bit too long as he held onto her hand, but soon clearing his throat awkwardly and letting go. "Mhmm… I'll have to get my stuff." He didn't seem to notice the curious glances of their classmates, trying to figure out the nature of their relationship. Lucas and Melissa were basically already dating at this point, but both always denied any romantic feelings and insisted that they were just friends. Most people didn't believe them for a second. Lucas followed Melissa out of the lunchroom, occasionally glancing over to her simply because he wanted to look at her.

In an attempt to not think about his holding her hand for slightly too long, she smiled at him before leading him towards the doors. She also chose to ignore the staring eyes following the two as they made their way out. "So, I guess I'll see you in class then." She chirped, turning on her heel to look at him. "You go get your stuff, and I'll get mine, and I'll see you in class."

@Fraust

"Right… see you soon." Lucas dipped his head and hurried off to fetch his things. He soon arrived in class with his books and all the other nonsense he always carried with him and set them down on his desk with a soft huffed from exertion. Then he sat down and started to doodle since class hadn't started yet.

Melissa wasn't surprised to find Lucas hunched over what she assumed to be a sketchbook. She had known him to be a rather talented artist, and it felt like whenever she wasn't around he would be doodling. Whether that was because he didn't want her to see his work, or that he just didn't have many other close "friends" other than herself, was a mystery to her. Coming up beside him, she leaned forward to see what he was drawing. Though it looked a little strange, as the image was upside down. "Whatcha drawing?" She hummed, tilting her head in hopes of seeing better.

@Fraust

Lucas jumped and flustered when Melissa suddenly appeared, apparently startled. "Ah, M-Mel… nothing special, really…" He replied softly, a pink flush rising to his cheeks. He had always been a bit self conscious about his drawings, but doodling always helped to ground him and calm him down when e was stressed.
He wasn't very far into this particular drawing, but from the silhouette, it seemed to be a girl with some kind of dog. He drew Melissa and his childhood pet pretty often, so it was safe to assume that they were the ones he was currently drawing.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Melissa wasn't convinced, but she had gotten used to responses like that with him. Especially when he was startled, or flustered- which seemed to happen a lot when she was around. She didn't question it, though, assuming it was just how he was with everyone.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," She began, sitting in the seat in front of him before turning around. "I was just curious. From what I can tell it looks good." Flashing a smile, she turned back around to set her textbook and pencil case down.

@Fraust

"It's fine, don't worry about it… I just got kinda wrapped up in it." Lucas laughed softly and turned his attention back to adding details to the drawing. "Probably for the best. I think class is going to start any minute now, and the teacher might not like it if I'm distracted." Despite what he said, he didn't look like he had any intention to stop drawing yet. He definitely had a tendency to get very immersed in his work; it was a habit he'd picked up since art was more or less a coping mechanism for him, so dedicating all of his attention to it made it more effective. While Melissa was watching, he put most of his attention into detailing the dog so that it was less obvious that he was drawing her as well.

When the day was practically over, Melissa had headed to her locker, yanked her bag out, and began heading towards where she hoped Lucas would be. He still had baseball, of course, but she thought if he talked to the coach she could at least sit on the field and do some homework. So she weaved through the crowd of people heading towards the exit, trying to find Lucas among the chaos.

@Fraust

Lucas fetched his things from his locker and headed outside after a few minutes of failing to find Melissa. She knew where he was going, so he figured that they'd be able to meet up outside with relative ease. The coach knew Melissa, anyway, so Lucas doubted that he'd have an issue with her sitting and watching. She didn't ever cause problems. Lucas headed into the locker room to change into a t-shirt and athletic shorts for practice; he only really needed to wear his uniform for actual games.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Having also given up, Melissa made her way out to the baseball field. When she had made it outside, she didn't see Lucas- or almost anyone for that matter. The field was practically empty, other than the coach and who she assumed were two of the other players. She wasn't worried about it, assuming she was either early, or the others were just finishing up, and making their way down soon.

@Fraust

Lucas and his fellow teammates soon made their way out to the field, laughing and joking with each other about something that wasn't audible from the stands. Lucas was thankful for the distraction from his home life, honestly; it was one of his biggest reasons for enjoying baseball as much as he did. In addition to just enjoying the game, of course, and having a natural talent for it. Soon, once everyone was done messing around, they started doing some actual practice. It wasn't formatted like a proper game; moreso just groups of the guys collecting to practice different skills and then moving around when they wanted to try something else.

(Rn, I'm kinda at an awkward place, and don't exactly know what to write- so I'm sorry if this seems like really poor writing. If you've got a plan for this part of the day, be my guest to kinda skim to that part,,, otherwise, feel free to jump to somewhere they could have some kind of interaction/dialog)

Melissa had attempted to catch Lucas's attention, but failed to do so. Hoping that none of the other boys had noticed her, she dropped back to her seat with a slight huff.

If she was being honest, she totally heard the whispers about her and Lucas. Yet she elected to ignore them. But there were some times she wondered herself what their relationship was. When she did things like sit at his practices, or sit together- alone- at lunch, or when she played with his hair… or hold his hand…
Well, she at least understood why people had those thoughts. But that was just what friends acted like. I mean she had convinced herself of that, especially because Laura had always acted similarly towards her. Why was that relationship any different than her one with Lucas?

Shoving her thoughts away, she went back to her text book, trying to study the words in them.

@Fraust

(Np! Dw about it, I don't really have any specific plans lol. I might have Lucas have a fight with his dad and ask to spend the night after he gets home if that works for you)

Lucas was having some trouble focusing on practice. His performance didn't suffer too much as a result, but if anyone noticed he blamed it on being rusty from the summer. Really, he hadn't noticed most of what people said; he was pretty oblivious most of the time. But… he did occasionally catch a whisper about them and it made him think about his and Melissa's relationship a little more than he would like to. Of course he was happy just being friends with her… right? He sighed softly, shaking his head a bit to try to clear his thoughts unsuccessfully. He knew deep down that as much as he denied his crush on her and insisted that he was happy with how things were, he wanted more. But he didn't think that Melissa felt the same way and he didn't want to force his feelings on her, and so he would be content with the way things were.

After practice, he took off his helmet and ran his fingers through his hair, smiling softly when they bumped the hair clip he'd forgotten about. He flushed lightly upon realizing how he was acting and quickly tried to compose himself before meeting up with Melissa. "Hey, sorry we ran a bit long. Maybe you got some homework done early though, yeah?" He laughed softly as he jogged up to her, tucking his belongings under one arm. He could properly shower when he got home; he'd only really rinsed off in the locker room.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

(Honestly, that could make things interesting, so I'd totally be down hehe)

Melissa was absorbed in her own world of math homework, having completely tuned out the rest of the world. That was, until she caught the end of Lucas's sentence, startling herself back into the real world.
"Gosh- sorry, what?" She asked, doing her best to try and figure it out before he could tell her. "Oh- yeah, I got a decent amount done. And there's no need to apologize." She laughed, in an attempt to cover up the fact he had made her jump so badly. It was one of those awkward laughs, showing she wasn't quite sure what to do until her brain kicked back on. Realizing she needed to pack up her things, she hastily shoved them in her backpack before standing, and stepping down from the bleachers.
"How'd practice go?"

@Fraust

(🕺)

"Don't worry about it. Glad you got some done." Lucas laughed awkwardly as well and looked away, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. He led her away from the bleachers and started walking back in the direction of their houses. "Practice was fine. We messed around for a bit, but I think we got a little bit done, at least." He shrugged and adjusted his bag on his shoulder, humming softly to himself. "Might check over your notes later if that's okay. You always organize yours better than I do." He chuckled softly, finicking with the hair clip a bit too try and keep it where it was doing its job.
As they drew nearer to his place, his smile fell and he looked noticeably more tense, but he didn't say anything about it. "Um… I'll see you tomorrow, I guess. Have a good night, Mel." He offered a weak smile as he headed towards the door.

(Figured I'd let you reply before I do the whole thing so we don't have to do super long responses lol)

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"Yeah, you can totally borrow my notes." Melissa hummed, deciding it would be best not to take his hand as they started walking towards their houses. She listened to him talk with a soft smile, fidgeting with her hands having nothing else to do with them.
As they approached his house, Melissa could almost feel the shift in his mood. But she didn't say anything. Instead she quickly followed after him, taking his hand before he could step away. "Wait, hold on." She said, hesitating before hugging him. Pulling away, she gave him a smile before backing away. "Just… thought it might help a little…" She mumbled, before starting to walk away. "I'll see you tomorrow- call me if you need anything." And then she started to pick up the pace, and leave him where he was at.

(Yeah totally! Makes sense haha)

@Fraust

Lucas flushed lightly when Melissa hugged him, clearly taken aback, but managing to hug her in return before she pulled away. "Right… yeah. Of course. See you soon, Mel." He smiled weakly and headed inside, sighing and deflating as soon as he was in the house.
He headed further into the house and put down his things, calling out to alert his father that he'd returned. Flint came out from wherever he'd been drinking and narrowed his eyes at his son, grumbling in distaste.
(Tw for Lucas' dad generally sucking)
"Where the hell have you been all day?" He barked at Lucas, who sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
"I've been at school, dad. Then practice. School started up again, remember?"
"Don't give me that tone!" Lucas stared down at the ground, mentally retorting that he hadn't had a tone, but keeping quiet to avoid more conflict. "Why do you have that stupid thing in your hair? You sure as hell better not be gay, boy." Lucas blinked a couple times, clearly bewildered.
"Ah? No, of course I'm not. Melissa gave it to me since my hair was bothering me." Of course he would be like this…
"You're always hanging out with that stupid bitch. Stop wasting your time!" Lucas seethed at that, his hands clenching into fists.
"Don't call her that! And I'm not wasting my time!" That set his father off even more and the two of them got into another screaming match. Flint yelled at Lucas and brought up things that were far too personal until he was nearly in tears, and so Lucas stormed off to pack a bag for the night. He continued yelling back at his father as he walked out and slammed the door behind him, huffing indignantly.

Tears started to roll down Lucas' cheeks as he walked, still furious and very stressed. His heart was racing and his vision was blurred, but even so, he could see his hands shaking badly. He shook his head and tried to rub his tears away before he knocked on Melissa's door, but it was still pretty obvious that he'd been crying.

(Long reply anyway I'm sorry lol asdghjk)
