"Hello, Amelie." The ghost of a smile passed Samantha's lips. Amelie seemed to be working perfectly.
"Hello, Amelie." The ghost of a smile passed Samantha's lips. Amelie seemed to be working perfectly.
(is all information programmed into her?)
The automaton's head cocked to the side. "Hello," she replied smoothly.
(I'm thinking speech, her name, and what Samantha looks like, perhaps some basic morals so she doesn't kill anyone)
Samantha nodded to herself. Amelie seemed to be running fine.
"Do you know your name?"
"A–" She raised one of her arms, opening and closing her fist. "Amelie." She looked back up at Samantha with wide eyes. "Samantha?" she asked, stretching out her finger to point.
"Yes, I am Samantha." She gently reached out and put her hand on Amelie's hand.
"And we do not point. It's rude." She smiled softly, as one would to a child.
Amelie nodded as a sign of understanding. "Rude," she echoed. A pause. "I'm sorry."
Samantha smiled again.
"I accept your apology." She stood back slightly.
"Can you walk?"
Amelie looked down at her legs and smiled. With a struggle that was slowly diminishing, she set her left foot forward, followed by her right. Looking back up at Samantha, she took another much smoother step.
Samantha smiled and put her hands together in front of her.
"Very good!" She said, praising Amelie.
"Thank you!" There was intonation to her voice now, an innocent brightness. She looked around the workshop with a seemingly curious expression.
There was an organized chaos scattered about the room; tools haphazardly laying in seemingly random places and iron pieces of different shapes and sizes were scattered about. Samantha always focused more on her work than her workroom, but she always seemed to know where everything was. Samantha nodded to herself again. She wanted to take Amelie outside now, but she knew she had to teach her more about the outside world.
Amelie suddenly reached for a hammer with what could only be called a laugh.
Brandishing the tool, she turned to Samantha. "What is this one, Samantha?" she asked.
"This is a hammer." She pointed to the head, which was slightly chipped.
"I use it to help form metal."
"Mmme. Tal," she tried. "That's new." Her head turned to face Samantha. "I am new. Welcome to me," she told her creator.
"Welcome to my workroom, Amelie." Samantha smiled, wrapping her hands around Amelie's.
With a startled expression Amelie looked down at their conjoined hands, before gently taking hold of Samantha's. "Thank you," she said softly.
Samantha grinned happily. Amelie was running smoothly, and she was learning too. Samantha was glad; Amelie might even be able to go outside.
"What do we do now?" Amelie questioned brightly, letting go of the woman and starting to turn on the spot.
Samantha smiled, hands folded in front of her.
"I'm going to teach you how to be human."
Amelie went still. Her head turned on its own all the way to the back of her body and fixed on Samantha. "Human?"
Samantha cringed a little.
"Yes, and your first lesson is don't turn your head all the way." She giggled, then sighed quietly. This was going to be interesting…
Amelie twisted her body to match, and nodded. "Understand."
She was suddenly caught by surprise by Samantha's giggle, and imitated her.
Samantha was only slightly creeped out.
"Very good," she commented.
Amelie stepped closer: she was getting a negative emotion off of Samantha.
"I'm sorry," she apologised while trying to place and fix said emotion.
"No, don't be. There is nothing to be sorry for!" Samantha smiled, showing Amelia everything was alright.
