Lucas's POV:
"He's genuine enough," I answered with a shrug.
Lucas's POV:
"He's genuine enough," I answered with a shrug.
Ashley’s POV:
I snorted and rolled my eyes playfully before leaning over to kiss him quickly. “I’ll see you later, babe.”
(Time skip!)
Sterling’s POV:
Taking Lucas and Ashley’s advice, I actually went to school the next day. And I wrote a note for Eden, which I planned to slip into her locker after I talked to her.
In fact, I was standing at her locker now, waiting for her to get to school and put her things away. I wouldn’t be backing down from this. I had to explain. If she rejected me, the so be it, but I couldn’t let her think that I thought the kiss was a mistake.
Eden's POV:
"I could take the high road," I hummed to myself, the music in my ears blasting loudly. I couldn't sleep well last night, either, so I definitely looked like a mess. I ran my fingers through my hair, sighing loudly. At times like this, I really wanted to go home and blast Twenty One Pilots, doing and thinking absolutely nothing. After Saturday, these moments were ruined. Every time I laid down, free from work, I'd remember. And it would burn.
I noticed the cause of my worries standing right next to my locker, but it was too late to turn back and run. My things were in my locker. He also saw me.
Keeping my eyes anywhere but at him, I walked to my locker slowly, my hands folded tightly. He shouldn't have come today, either.
Sterling’s POV:
She was finally here. And, go figure, she was ignoring me.
“Eden. Hey, could we talk?” I asked, moving into her line of sight. I knew that would be annoying, but I had to talk to her.
Eden's POV:
I… really didn't want to hear this. I realized I couldn't bear to hear him tell me he doesn't want to pursue me anymore. It hurt, but I forced myself to remain neutral.
"Okay," I said, looking at him. "Let's talk."
Sterling’s POV:
Okay, so she was actually going to let me talk… That was good, right?
Letting out a deep sigh, I ran my hand through my hair. “I just wanted to apologize about Saturday. Again. I shouldn’t have done that. But I wanted you to know… I want you to know that I don’t regret it. Not at all. I really like you, Eden, but I shouldn’t have forced that upon you.”
Eden's POV:
He… doesn't regret it. At all. He still likes me.
Hearing that made me relieved, despite how hard I was trying to remain neutral. I couldn't look at him in the eyes anymore. I shuffled awkwardly, feeling my neck heat up at his words.
And at my thoughts.
"You still like me," I repeated. "Even when I'm pushing you away. Why? What's so great about me?"
Sterling’s POV:
“Eden, you’re one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. You’re not afraid of anything that I’ve seen you come across, and you’re willing to put up a fight. Most people will just back down when something gets too hard, but you keep fighting. And you’re beautiful… Honestly, though, I would still like you if you weren’t. Because I like you for your personality, not for your looks,” I explained, hoping that my words would be enough to convince her.
Eden's POV:
I finally looked at him in the eyes.
"You're wrong," I finally said quietly. "I'm not fearless. I'm afraid of any changes, big or small. I pick a fight because it's easier than to let the fear and pain consume you. I'm afraid, Sterling."
Sterling’s POV:
“I know you’re not fearless, nobody is. But that doesn’t make me like you any less. If anything, I like you even more because you could tell me that,” I said softly, sticking my hands in my front pockets.
(Sterling *^*/)
Eden's POV:
I fell silent, not knowing what else to say. I'd acted harsh, and rude, and completely disregarded his feelings, yet he's not walking away. It made my heart race. The feeling was so achingly familiar. It was like a harsh slap to the face.
I finally found it in me to form words, and I opened my mouth but I was interrupted.
"Eden, may I have a word with you?" I looked at the source of the voice, a little annoyed. It was my Biology teacher. He looked apologetic at interrupting me.
I looked at Sterling, then at the teacher before nodding.
"I'll see you later," I nodded at Sterling.
(Ugh, work…)
Sterling’s POV:
“Sure. All right,” I said softly, nodding a bit.
Of course. Of course we were interrupted right before she was about to say something. Now I was going to wonder about it all day…
Eden's POV:
The school was over and I didn't get to see Sterling after that. I hadn't had the chance to tell him what I wanted to say. It was six in the afternoon, and I was standing in front of Ashley's house. Why? I wasn't too sure myself. I just knew that I wanted someone to talk to, and Ashley was the only one I could talk to about it.
I rang the bell and waited.
Ashley’s POV:
My mom got to the door before I did, and her eyes lit up at the sight of Eden. “Eden! What a great surprise! Come on in!”
“Mama, who’s at the door?” I asked as I ran down the stairs to see. Seeing my best friend, I grinned. “Eden, hey!”
Eden's POV:
I smiled at Ashley's mom. Aunt Willow was a close friend of my mother's, and she even babysat Lucas and me on some occasions.
"Thank you, Aunt," I walked inside, giving Aunt Willow another smile before I turned my attention towards Ashley. "Sorry for coming here without notice. I… needed to talk to you about something."
Ashley’s POV:
“Oh, it’s fine! I was just working on stuff for the dance,” I said with a shrug. “Do you want a snack? We could go eat up in my room if you want.”
Eden's POV:
"I'm good," I said in reply. I had a strawberry before I came here, and I wasn't really hungry, nor was I in the mood to eat something. "You can if you want to."
(A strawberry… as in “one strawberry”? Girl…)
Ashley’s POV:
“Okay, that’s fine. I’m not really hungry either, so that’s probably a good thing,” I chuckled. “I’d probably end up eating with you, and that wouldn’t be good for me. Anyway, should we go up to my room?”
(ahhhhhhhhhhh Sterling and Eden are so good together)
(ahhhhhhhhhhh Sterling and Eden are so good together)
(Lol. Thanks, we're trying. ;P)
(ahhhhhhhhhhh Sterling and Eden are so good together)
(Aren't they?? Thank you! :D)

(Yes, a strawberry. xD She's not in the mood to eat, okay? :P)
Eden's POV:
I smiled at Ashley before we walked into her room. She closed the door as I flopped down on her bed. I didn't know where to start, but I wished she didn't make fun of me. I hardly ever talked about my problems to get advice, much less about something like this.
"So…" I looked at her and gave a small shrug. "Do you know Sterling Ainsley?"
Ashley's POV:
"Sterling Ainsley? Yeah, I know him," I said as I made my way over to sit next to her on the bed. Was this about their kiss? Oh, gosh… This could be an interesting conversation. "What about him?"
(Sorry, I had to go eat! I'll be tutoring my cousin now, so I'll be late in replying.)
Eden's POV:
I bit my lip, not knowing how to tell Ashley. Why was it embarrassing? It was just a simple thing to say!
"He… asked me out," I confessed quietly. "A few days ago. I didn't know him back then."
(It's fine, don't worry about it!)
Ashley's POV:
I blinked at her. "Okay… I mean, I guess he's kinda cute, but he's obviously not my type. I'm guessing you said no?"
