"It's small." Felix felt even worse about stealing the room now that he had seen Faye's room. He quickly unlocked his own door after placing the bags on her floor, revealing a big suite with a livingroom, bedroom and kitchen. It even had a balcony. He walked back to Faye's room.
Faye has taken a seat on the bed to look around the room some more with a smile that was barely there. She looked down to her watch, noting that it was probably time to take her medicine. The time difference threw off her schedule, so she would have to take it in the afternoons instead of the morning. Ah well, I can work around that.
Felix stood by the opening of the room. "Um… don't take this the wrong way. We barely know each other. But… you can use my livingroom if you want to. The kitchen too. I get if it's weird because we just met, but that fridge doesn't look like it could fit that much food and you have not other space. And it seems like you will be staying here longer than me anyways." He looked down. "Anyhow, it's just a suggestion."
Faye looked over at him and blinked, having not expected that, “Oh..thank you.” She smiled, “That’s very kind of you, I might take advantage of your offer once I go out to buy food later.”
He smiled. "Sure, whenever. So, um… bye for now, I guess. It was nice to meet you, Faye." He turned around, one last look at the tiny room.
“Nice to meet you too, Felix.” She waved back and kicked off her shoes to sit cross legged on the bed.
Felix walked back to his own room, opening it with his key card. The suite almost felt too big for him. What the heck… I deserve this. He threw himself on the sofa, tired.
Faye fell back on her bed with a long sigh. She toyed the idea of a nap, but after the long plane ride she couldn’t stand—let alone sleep in—this itchy wig. So after the painstakingly long time taking it off in the bathroom, she went up to rummage through her bags for her medicine. Was there a vending machine outside for water? She walked over and opened the door to peek outside for a moment. In fact, there was, just beside the elevator.
Felix wanted a snack. He wanted a donut, but he could probably not find one anywhere close so a candy bar had to do it. He walked out the corridor, remembering the vending machine. First thing he saw was a young woman. A closer look, and he realised it was Faye. He stared at her, confused. "Wow. You…" Then he remembered what she said about medicines earlier and his mind made a connection. "Ah. Right, sorry." He felt proud of himself for understanding so fast, but at the same time he felt stupid about his first reaction.
Faye looked at him like a deer in the headlights, her eyes wide with first surprise, and then embarrassment, “Shoot..” she lifted a hand up to her short hair, “I-I’m..” she thought about apologizing, but trailed off and returned to getting her drink with shaky hands.
Felix was quiet for a while, not knowing what to say. He felt stupid. "I, um, I don't mind," he said after a couple of seconds, feeling even more dumb as he said it. "I mean, I really like your hair that way too." He blushed a bit.
“Ah..” she relaxed and looked back at him with her water bottle in her hand, “Thank you..” she smiled lightly, “I don’t like it, but it’s the feel of it, mainly.”
"I think it looks pretty good. But I get if you don't like it. When, um, when did it…?" Felix didn't know how to finish that sentence.
Faye blinked, not offended, just not understanding, “What do you mean?” She tilted her head.
"Never mind." Felix blushed. "I'm just gonna… get my snackbar."
Faye steppes away from the vending machine for him, “I’m still confused…” Now she really wanted to know what he meant.
Felix wondered if it would still be possible for someone to spot the difference between his face and a tomato. "I mean… I assumed… I assumed that since you wear a wig and have medications, you have or have had cancer. And I just wondered when it happened. Like, for how long? I'm sorry if that's rude of me."
“Oh..” she relaxed, glancing off to decide what all she wanted to tell him, then glanced back, “Yeah, you’re right, it is from cancer. But I’ve been in remission for almost a year now..” she smiled slightly, “So not cured per se yet. Just recovering.”
"Oh." Felix tilted his head, not sure on what to answer to that. "I'm… sorry?"
“It’s fine.” She shook her head, “It’s good news actually.” She took a few steps back towards her room.
"Well… I'm happy that you're getting better. Sorry for my awkwardness and I'll be going now." He smirked a bit before quickly getting his snackbar and backing off.
Faye gave him another smile and dipped back into her own room. She breathed a sigh of relief that he didn’t ask what kind of cancer. That would have been awkward. She took her medicine with the water, and decided to take a nap.
Felix escaped back to his own room. He locked the door and sank down on the floor with his back against it. He had started to feel it in the corridor, but he had kept it together for as long as she were there. Oh, God. A panic attack was coming, and Felix buried his face in his hands. He had started freezing and shaking uncontrollably, like always when he had an attack.
Unaware of her neighbor’s attack, Faye sank down into her bed, head resting on the pillow. What if she had made him feel bad? She should bring him something, like a sort of peace offering to show she had no hard feelings for what he asked. Or maybe she should just leave it alone.
Faye closed her eyes, but found it more than difficult to fall asleep.
Felix tried to control his own breathing, but it was impossible. He had started sweating despite freezing, and the shaking was uncontrollable. Voices in his head reminded him of literally every stupid or embarassing thing that he had ever done. Sitting against the door, he curled up into a ball, trying to swallow down the feeling of loosing control completely. He hated this, and he hated not being able to handle his own body at moments like these. He couldn't even handle his own mind.
